Southern Ohio crossbow hunt. Shot was not ideal but got down and put another one in him as quick as possible. Hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed the hunt!
Adrenaline had them pumped up I've done it before myself more than once and then a couple times I've had it happened to where my time I got the safety offer to hammer cocked the deer was moving again and had turned or behind brush and couldn't get a shot because it kind of is a mind f*** when you have a perfect shot lined up and you go to squeeze the trigger and nothing happens which sometimes you have to take a moment to recompose because you don't want to screw around and jerk the trigger on your shot because I know myself and I tried to fire a gun and the safety was on I'm sitting there squeezing and yanking on the trigger trying to get the sheet for a moment and then sometimes when I do click the safety off the next round of fire I might jerk the trigger a little target shooting before either that forgetting to turn off the safety or you turn the safety off but the gun goes click because you forgot to rechamber a round after you climbed into the stand ( and I was a safety rule not to climb a tree stand with a loaded rifle or pull one up with a pull rope this loaded plus the only time I really use a pull rope is if I'm in a climbing stand a ladder stand or shooting house I'll usually just sling my rifle on my shoulder as I climb up it depending on if I got my backpack on or not which then I usually put the backpack on the pull rope because I don't really like using a pull rope for my rifle especially with a ladder stand you know if it starts to swing around for whatever reason don't want to take a chance of the scope banging against the ladder or the tree itself which I've had happened before and then I'm not going to be confident in my rifle for that hunt or any other hunt until I can go shoot a target to make sure it's still accurate what's your rifle scopes I've seen some take some pretty nasty bumps and/or Falls and still be okay but then I've seen other times where a little bump that you wouldn't think would hurt anything would cause it to miss by a mile
Best thing I do to control my adrenaline when I’m hunting Is I visualize a bunch of different scenarios while I’m in my stand and let them play out in my head step by step. When the deer show up I’m so ready to go it’s like clockwork.
I halfway agree with you , I hunt with a longbow for the first month or so of season and once the deer start to get a little skittish on public ground I switch to compound. But I’ve killed deer with all 3 , and I can tell you for sure that the crossbow was the least proud I’ve ever been about harvesting a deer. No challenge at all. I shot one deer with it and I’ll never do it again.
@@bradboisseau749 some of us can't afford to go out for a "challenge". I don't do this for the sport, i do this for the 100 pounds of meat i can get for a $7 tag.

Buck fever at its finest😅 the premature “meh” before the safety click. I was like “don’t run!”🤣 my dad told me a story from when he was a kid. Said my grandpa was aiming at a buck, he said he never pulled the trigger once just starter unracking full ammo out of the bolt action rifle while his brain thought he was taking shots 🤣🤣🤣
This guy is a true hunter! Waits to turn the safety off until the deer is looking at him is hard core, but to compensate low and to the left by aiming at the heart knowing your scope is off high and to the right and making that perfect spine shot! Total gangster!!
Any day in the woods is a great day...glad you had a great experience, everyone has what works for them. Hopefully you did a quick follow up shot and ethically put it out of it's misery..Spine shot is not something to brag about, even though if you have hunted long enough it happens to the best of us. Stopping the Deer then taking off safety...🤦🏾♂️. Adrenalin can cause a lot it slip ups..that's why practicing the basics becomes muscle memory.. good video though.
Sometimes a spine shot can also clip thru the lungs I've shot a few deer thru the spine and it clipped the lungs as well although thats with a rifle and you get a larger wound channel but they were dead by time I got out of my stand/blind and walked up to it.. Which it's a spot I've learned to try to shoot for now a low spine/high lung shot when I can right which I don't really try it longer range for the chances of overshooting the deer or hitting it across the top of the back above the spine and I'll typically go for the heart and shoulder take his front legs out but still it depends on the location of the spine shot if it's further forward and severs the proper nerves then it would shut down the respiratory system and heart from the paralysis love saying quite a few dear shot with a neck shot through just a spine no arteries or anything and the deer was DOA because it cut off the brain's ability to tell the heart and lungs to keep working
But I do agree if the deer isn't dead you need to finish it quickly either with another arrow through the heart or a good sharp pocket knife although technically with a spine shot it's really not really going to feel any pain but it's still freaking the hell out and don't know what's going on it's going to be scared stressed and that's enough reason to put it down quickly because in a lot of ways that is suffering in itself going through that type of ordeal
you got pretty lucky making a call to him having it on safety then have to mess around with it again by All rights he should have took off after hearing the safety off
@Niekamp Outdoors Don't let the skeptics get to you. At every stage of hunting there's always something that you desire to achieve and even the professionals get the fever. Great learning experience 👍🏻 Nice shot 👏
Got lucky on that one, i hate spine shots, alot of lessons were learned and still got it done! Congratulations on a nice buck ... some of us learned the hard way, gotta be fully ready when you stop them.
All of you are laughing but let me tell you some of the craziest mistakes can be made when you’re facing a mature buck .... during the rut I’ve gone from Albert Einstein to Abby Normal in a couple seconds 🤣

I don't get to shoot at huge bucks every year like some people it seems so I'm shaking too! Don't have a crossbow but with my compound I've got do a breathing exercise even when drawing on a doe! Nice shot, you got it done, I'd be soo pumped! I got a decent 8 pointer back in late October and I just about had a heart attack when I saw him. Luckily it was quick! He came in to like 15-20 yards and I just top pinned him. Didn't have time for the heart attack!

Now you know why he hunts with a crossbow he'd never kill a deer with an actual bow.
Very sporting of you to get his attention before taking the safety off. You gave him the opportunity to run hahaha. Nice shot
Thats not what that was. He got the deers attention so he'd freeze and stop moving.
@@averagejoe9040 but normally you want your safety off before you get the deer to stop. He's luck it wasn't waving bye with its tail. Just my thoughts
@@stevenmorris3509 personally Im pretty sure that wasnt planned. Probably went to fire and realized it was still on.
If you watch close he pulled the trigger twice. Safety was on the first time

Just did it with my buck… got bout 85 out “meh” then all I heard was “click” so I had to chamber one😂 dropped him though.

Yes he did, watch the full video, he watched the deer bleed out after it got up and stumbled away and putting another bolt in it
