Am I the only one that really happy that Ben is back in the public space? Like... When he left top gear you knew a piece of the OG was gone. Now having him on drive tribe, hammon and his daughter, May with some randomness, it's nice to see Mike and the crew keeping the spirit of "top gear" (Hammond, Clarkson and may personality and energy) alive. The new top gear never captured the energy as well as drive tribe is doing
I'm really happy this channel exists. Top Gear and soon Grand Tour may be over, but I hope they keep doing occasional appearances on this channel for years to come. And Ben is always a joy to watch. One thing I remember really well from Top Gear is all the guests always saying how nice the Stig was.
He bought the quad because the only thing that would fit in his farm and it’s the most fun. I had one. They are just pure fun disguised as practical farm transport.
ben has this sort of military vibe to him and then I found this: "After Ben graduated in Law from Exeter University he served four years in the military with his exceptional driving ability being utilised as a Special Forces driving instructor. After leaving the army he used his ability behind the wheel to pursue a career as a racing car driver."
Yea, nothing like having another man sit open legged behind you on a machine that sends vibration through the seat. Mike will be sitting on the storage rack.
The best choice by far is Ben's Kubota on fresh tires and a trailer behind it. It was literally designed for this job. It is more practical than the quad, is less dangerous, can haul more and has a roof, in the UK. The Pinzgauer is awesome but hideously expensive to own I reckon, as it is mostly single model parts produced in relatively low volume. Yes, it is army surplus but that doesn't mean it is cheap.
Pinz's are mostly ok...they are very thirsty but, at least our one, has a VW van engine and zf gearbox that appeared in other vehicles. Its the running gear which is the mega proprietary stuff...
@@jamesward6460 Mostly ok when they work. When they don't, you have to re-mortgage your house. From factory, they come with a Steyr designed inline-4 or a diesel inline-5 or 6. It has a manual 5 speed and later an automatic 4-speed. Not sure what other vehicles they were used in. Running gear is what breaks when you go off-roading, engines mostly overheat, the clutch might go if it is a manual. I'd love to own one, I think they're great but it is not fit for an orchard.
Had to drive a Pinz from Blackpool to Paderborn and back, by the end fluid was piddling out the steering column and my gearbox broke on the M61. They are fun to drive, but maintenance is horrible.
Positive camber on some of those vehicles are by design. As you load up the vehicle with whatever it is you're carrying, it will push down on the axles and essentially get rid of the camber.
I remember 25 years ago reading Witham SV adverts in the back of Land Rover magazines. Teenage me really fancied the Chieftain tank they had for sale at the time lol.
what a great episode! Military vehicles are so much fun. I'm all for the Pinzgauer. I've seen and used them on farms many times before. Its a great farm/offroad vehicle. We need a follow up episode on which one he chose.
The most practical would be the UTV. The Pinzgauer is fun until you have to get it fixed, then just empty your bank account. Really what he needs is a 4wd Kei Truck from Japan. Many of them are actually 5 speed with a pin holding you out of 4th and 5th gear so they can scoot pretty good. Cheap to maintain and will last forever and will have wipers and a heater that works.
I used to own an older 1973 710M in the US. It had an air-cooled straight 6. It was a BEAST when offroading. Unfortunately, it was also a pain to keep running despite it's simple modular drivetrain construction - especially if someone (like the previous owner) ran it in 4-wheel drive mode on dry pavement. It was not as bad as a Mark 1 or Mark 2 Alvis Stalwart, but things started to break down fast when abused.
I've just noticed that Pinzgauer was made by Stauer Puch. They also made the engine and CVT gear system in the infamous AC Cars/Greys of Thurrock Invacar Model 3 (those 3 wheelers with one seat issued by the NHS to people with additional mobility needs)
The Alvis CVR(T)s are the best. My dad worked on them at development and manufacture (at Alvis). They would go well over 50mph (possibly at 70mph on rubber tracks on sealed roads?). Early versions had Jaguar petrol engines. Not for claustrophobes though.
The fast attack vehicle you looked at the sand rail thing not sure about the UK but the Americans used the Chenowth and i have a kit car version of of one in my garage owned it for over 20 years now VW powered Chenowth went out of business along time ago my one looks like the ones you see in 3 kings movie hasnt got the the third seat or gun turret but as far as i know basically the same thing! Has only been out the garage a handful of times was imported around 1991 and i reckon built in America and used as found a few American coins down under the seats! Kingfisher officially imported it into the uk and it was used for the safari off road series until someone rolled it and claimed on the insurance thats how i got it!
If I remember correctly that fast attack vehicle was called a longleaf FAV . And the spartan was my works vehicle at one time. The jag patrol version was much better than the diesel.
The front wheels points inwards because the truck doesn't have all the heavy kit mounted that would otherwise weigh the springs down. Also why did they mount a microphone inside the engine bay on the last vehicle? Were they afraid it wouldn't be loud enough?
Having driven every one of those vehicles the cvrt is deffo the most fun. But I'd have a Pinz all day long but it would have to be the 6 wheeled version not the 4.
I would guess The Light assault vehicle from the Gulf War. My neighbor has one that looks just like that one in your show there and drives it all over the mtn side here. And its quick, not to fast but, bang your at 60 in a few seconds quick.
The Pinzgauer would be the logical choice, wouldn't it? The Kubota's main problem is it's not an offroader. Ah, and the CVR-T... Takes me back to the nineties when I was in the Army, only ours were Jag straight six petrol engine. If you thought that Sultan Mike got in was cramped, should try the Scimitar or Scorpion with a turret... I basically didn't fit and I wasn't as big as I am now, and I also couldn't drive it with the hatch closed.
Stig: "Clarkson's Lambo tractor isn't even a Lambo.." Clarkson: "Yes. But at-least my farm...is an ACTUAL farm". Proceeds out into the shed and pat the tractor.
They should have bought the mine removal truck. Princess Diana had one
that would be perfect for getting apples out of the trees
It isnt for millitary it's for clearance and saving lives
You'd probably harvest the whole trees with that thing.

Absolutely agree.

I think he was always jealous of not having the fame. I don’t really care for him.
I’m glad they got to revisit this location.

Ozzy Osborne thought they were fun too.

And a bunch of farmers. We get about 10 quadbike deaths a year here in Nea Zealand, and we only have 5 million people in the country.
I would've just gotten new tires for the Kubota...with maybe a little lift. 😉😁
@@TrevorDennis100 I ride motorcycles on the road in California. Nuff said about my risk analysis skills.

that makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
Yes he actually passed selection for the SAS territorials. (23sas)
I love how uncomfortable Ben looked when Mike tried to jump on the quad with him. Hilarious 😂 Keep up the great content
He was genuinely sketched out 😂

LOVING these Ben and Mike videos! they could have their own channel getting up to these kinda shenanigans!
I bet he took the quad but his favorite was the Pinzgauer
agreed
If he'd tried the 6x6 Pinnie he'd have driven it home I reckon. Thirsty, noisy, uncomfortable and an absolute blast to point at anything!😉
Axles like to go on them, but not too big, capable and practical.
And a Puch Haflinger would be better suited to his needs.
I'm so glad Ben has become a regular on the channel.
He absolutely got the 4 wheeler with the trailer attachment. Ben's a practical man and that's a practicable ride
Ben having a great time on that ATV
absolutely loving having you two together on here regularly. Loving watching Ben come in to his own on the playform
Ben and Mike content is always hilarious. Keep it up guys!
Thanks Nicole!
I don't recall what Ben did when he was in the Army but I don't think he was a Mechanized troop. Still he looks right at home in a tracked vehicle. :)
SF driving instructor apparently.
The nostalgia ❤
Positive camber on some of those vehicles are by design. As you load up the vehicle with whatever it is you're carrying, it will push down on the axles and essentially get rid of the camber.
Also helps on very uneven ground to give the higher wheel more contact surface.
Suspension squat.

😅😅😅😅 pair is clueless. And they even wrote cards for them. A+
Quad was so cool watching Ben rip it round the course. Way to go STIG👍👍👍
I remember 25 years ago reading Witham SV adverts in the back of Land Rover magazines. Teenage me really fancied the Chieftain tank they had for sale at the time lol.
Ben happily honing around with no safety gear on, Legend 😂
On camera at least, the Three Other Presenters would NEVER have dared speak to The Stig in such a manner.
well yeah, as much as they're the same person, he's playing a different character
It's a joke, you clever clever guy.@@mattparkin7224
Great videos, great chemistry and joke, simply love it, we need more like this :)
The phrase 'boys and their toys' definitely springs to mind 😂
Great look around at this place, I can't believe a lot of this stuff is for sale
Ben taking racing lines on the quad 😂
Has anyone ever seen Ben Collins and Huge Bonneville in the same room together.
nice this was like a mini Top Gear episode

this is sooooo cool, loved the shots with the small tank, but seeing Ben put that quad to work was cool as well. Awesome content, love the channel
The OG Stig driving a tank is the best thing I have ever watched!
the 2nd last one. practical, capable, good brakes, loads of room, nice boosty engine👍🏾
i think he should grab both the quad and pinz, if you can't do it (whatever the it might be) in those vehicles then you're doing it wrong
Buy the fire truck, perfect for watering the garden
It has GOT to be a Pinzgauer! And what an absolutely brilliant choice!
Those landies are dope! Man If I had some extra money, I'd snatch one of those, probably low miles too
That was wildly entertaining. Crack on Mike and Ben.
Is there any kind of vehicle that Stig wouldn't turn into a race car?

Pinzgauer made the most sense but I believe that there was a vehicle called the Greyhound
Top video lads, Ben and Mike are a great combination.
Honestly could watch you guys arsing around with Military equipment for hours 😅
Oh my God, please just buy a tank so Ben and Eddie hall can drive tanks round stoke and cause havoc 😂
The pinzgauer is the ultimate vehicle as it will go almost everywhere , I’ve been looking to buy a 716 but prices are high ,..
You can't beat a tank, lol. Awesome 💪. Loving this content.
I've just noticed that Pinzgauer was made by Stauer Puch. They also made the engine and CVT gear system in the infamous AC Cars/Greys of Thurrock Invacar Model 3 (those 3 wheelers with one seat issued by the NHS to people with additional mobility needs)
Loving these videos with Ben, can't wait to see more!
The tank is the obvious best choice for general use and popping down to the shops!👍👍😄…on the other hand the landy WITH A .5O could come in handy!
The Pinz plus the qiad in the back without question. Both cover everything you could need on a farm.
The Alvis CVR(T)s are the best. My dad worked on them at development and manufacture (at Alvis). They would go well over 50mph (possibly at 70mph on rubber tracks on sealed roads?). Early versions had Jaguar petrol engines. Not for claustrophobes though.
"Hammond's found the helicopters 🤦♂️"
"I've got a wee arse" lol Mike
Nostalgia had me emotional!
Had to be the quad bike and trailer - practical first for Ben
I reckon the quad and trailer
I think Stig should by the CVRT as why wouldn't you. Great video, vibes and humor
Sory for asking those vehicles in that yard are for sale or what?
Yes the website is MoD sales.
Given the mud on his farm, the quad. Though, the truck might also be handy for taking apples to market.
Mr. Collin’s ‘may’ have smiled. 🤣
Should buy the Pinzgauer, definitely the best truck ever. Btw the one wasnt broken its just how the suspension works
Can’t beat the pinz , there awesome but very expensive .

He'll go for his favourite, the high riding Puch Pinzgauer, for sure.
All those Defenders 😢
I love the Steyr-Puch Pinzgauers.
The last one, for the sound alone. Where you going to park that then. Anywhere I want to.
If I remember correctly that fast attack vehicle was called a longleaf FAV . And the spartan was my works vehicle at one time. The jag patrol version was much better than the diesel.

Are TG/GT crew shooting for Drivetribe? The cinematography and color grading in this looked very familiar.
The first time I was able to guess the vehicle in question from the blacked out Thumpnail :) Tank driving is fun
Steyr Puch 100%
The front wheels points inwards because the truck doesn't have all the heavy kit mounted that would otherwise weigh the springs down. Also why did they mount a microphone inside the engine bay on the last vehicle? Were they afraid it wouldn't be loud enough?
The pinz are amazing off road going down steep inclines it will endo , also will roll over very easy.
The VW light strike buggy you didn't show, for me...or Pinzgauer...actually built in UK in latter years of service

The quad and the Pinz.
Quad in the Pinz.
Having driven every one of those vehicles the cvrt is deffo the most fun. But I'd have a Pinz all day long but it would have to be the 6 wheeled version not the 4.

Got to be the Pinzgauer... I used to drive them... an awesome vehicle
Thank you for this video.
Should of looked at a BV 206, so much fun and will go anywhere.
It should be the truck and the quad bike. But I did love the sound of the tank.
How much would the “Army Caterham” set you back, cool bit of kit.

that weird camber, maybe is for when it gets a ton of weight camber gets right?
