If you happen to ever find yourself slated to have society as a whole decide it would be best if they killed you, the silver lining is that in many parts of the world where this is still a thing, the last meal you ever eat is likely to be significantly better than the ones you’ve been consuming up to that point in prison. So how did this rather odd meal tradition come about and is it actually true death row inmates can get anything they want to eat?

Philip Wokeman was executed in Nashville TN in 2007. His last meal request was for a large vegetarian pizza to be given to a homeless person. The prison officials refused citing a policy against donating to charities. This news angered and motivated many locals who took it on themselves to carry out Wokeman's request on the day of his execution and vegetarian pizza topped the menu at all Nashville's homeless shelters that night. Supposedly this became a tradition for a few years every May 10 but it's likely died out now. If only they had facebook and UA-cam, it could have spread beyond Tennessee and may still be going today. x

There was an inmate in Oklahoma that when asked what he wanted for his last meal. His answer was a bit unusual, he said that he wanted a nap because he wouldn't have an appetite. So in the holding cell they used to hold the prisoner before the execution they put in a cot . He and some of the other prisoners on death row had been saving their medications for him so he could overdose himself. So they put him in the holding cell to take his nap. He took all the pills and laid down to die. Unfortunately for him when they came to get him to take him to get executed he was almost dead. So they did CPR on him and called an ambulance to take him to the hospital. After the doctors got him stabilized they took him back to the prison and executed him. Seriously, this really happened.

Hermann Goring managed to take a cyanide capsule and avoided his sentence as well. The Commandant of the prison got so mad that he cheated the hangman, that he had a stroke and had to be replaced. Another Nuremberg prisoner had also managed to kill himself before the trial had even begun. It is not totally uncommon for death row inmates to kill themselves to deprive the state of their justice, so death watches are generally assigned to them, so the sentences of the courts are carried out, and suicide does not count as having fulfilled the requirements of said sentence.

When the day came that she couldn’t eat without immediately getting sick, I had her put down. But heavy cream was her favorite treat, so I took a cup with me. • @sylviapark129
      @sylviapark129 4 роки тому +44

Hello! As a fellow Korean here's a simple answer :)
      1. In Korea we consider the time spent in the womb as life lived which means that when the baby comes out of the womb s/he will be one year old!
      2. Also unlike other countries we don't "gain a year" on our birthday but rather on new years day (usually on 1/1)

    • @sylviapark129

Most that have been sentenced to death have lived in solitary confinement with a severe restriction of everyday niceties that most enjoy ! Not they dont deserve such treatment ! So I think they should be given a last meal of their choice up to $150. Think about how many Innocent People have been Excuted !

I don’t know the whole history of it, but I believe the entire basis was essentially a loophole stating that the sentence only condemns the prisoner to death once, so they already completed their sentence.
The only time I’ve heard of it actually being utilized was a case where the attorney was in the process of proving the man was falsely accused, and they tried to act upon that loophole to at least give their client more time. I don’t recall where I read this, though, and I don’t have time to track down sources at the moment, so I’ll go ahead and like your comment in hopes that Simon sees it and is able to better elaborate than I am 😂

The simple answer is that they served their sentence. Some sailors condemned to keel hauling survived, and were then free of their crime. It's just assumed that the survival rate is not high enough to actually adjust the verbage in most executions. The green mile was an example of how an attempt to successfully execute someone who would have clearly survived the ordeal was unreasonable. He served his sentence and survived longer than anyone else, but they kept frying until he literally caught on fire, and his own blood finally conducted the electricity through his body to kill him. (The evil dude didn't wet the sponge because he wanted the man to suffer more.)
Generally speaking, I think that gas chambers and lethal injections were invented because the success rate is nearly 100%, compared to hanging, firing squad, and electricity.

Interestingly, Lee when he was released became a model citzen after he emmigrated to the USA.

Two ways I can see to make this work for me.
First is to make a request for the most expensive mean I can think of. I've heard about several dishes that start at several thousand dollars for a small slice. Think of the Taco Bell servings in Demolition Man.
Second is a way to say "Screw You!" to the man. Order something you might be allergic to and die the night before. If that doesn't work you may just get a postponement on your execution as you are suddenly ill and unable to attend.
And yes as I finish this Simon got to the part about the 100 tacos and only got 4.

All the inmates were screaming at us from three tiers of cells. We finally got to death row and a man who had been condemned to death spoke to the students in the group. I was not a student, but my gf was, and that's how I got there. As soon as I figured out that the guy was a lying self-serving psychopath, I was no longer interested in his story, but rather the process. My last meal would be 30 boxes of Pizza Hut pizzas, all with extra cheese, extra pepperoni, and all with stuffed crust. But that's not all, I want it with breadsticks, 16 cans of coke, 16 cans of pepsi, 16 cans of dr. pepper, 16 cans of red bull, 16 cans of monster energy drinks, 15 plates of spagetti, and 20 large fries each from McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, and Rally's (some places, it's called Checker's). I would also want a giant, chocolate cake with extra chocolate icing, chocolate sprinkles, and it would come with all of my favorite flavors of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, cookies and cream, mint chocolate, rocky road, and sundae). Don't forget 50 apple pies, 35 bags of pretzels, 70 packs of m&m's, 100 bowls of popcorn, 100 double chocolate chip cookies, and 250 mozzerella sticks with 250 curly fries.
