      Quick question:
If Beijing's Communist Party suddenly says there won't be a war, try to play nice but will continue to steadily increase their military development.
      Would you think
      1) They are trying to buy time or get Taiwan to drop down its guards
      2) For the benefit of the doubt; you will tell everyone to believe them and give them another chance to redeem themselves after numerous broken promises to WTO/WHO/treaties to other countries-etc.
      3) Other
I am somewhat more concerned about the 500++ million Chinese citizens in China that are earning less than 5.5$ a day. Which brings the taliban's scenario where those terrorists hold the citizens' hostage to bargain for recognzation/funds and most of the nation may be pressured to provide aids to avoid a humanitarian disaster.
Except in the case of China... the great leap forward killed tens of millions and the next one could be several times higher by the disaster of human creation called 'commusim'+'greed for power and insecurity'.

If the Taiwanese choose independence immediately, there will be a war from the mainland. Interlock! I like to say that, people in Taiwan should stop claiming they are about to be a country. In that way, ROC will have existed for another 100 years and will have had political independence, although it has not been recognized by the international society.

    • @civicblade1

That is why the Chinese government will always repeat the same line "We the Chinese people will not give up the right to unify Taiwan with the mainland using non-peaceful means but the priority and aim is to strive to unify Taiwan by peaceful means as this is the best way forward for both the people on the mainland and the people living in Taiwan province".
You are living on land that is part of China. You can argue all you want about PRC never controlling Taiwan island ever but the narrative in China is that Taiwan is part of China, the China that has 5000 years of recorded history.
If Taiwan declares independence right now, there will be volunteers from the mainland numbering more than twice the population of Taiwan (at least 60million Chinese) that will sign up for active military duties and China would probably raise funds for this military operation from donations by the Chinese population amounting to at least 5% of China's GDP.
A non-peaceful reunification exercise will signal to the world the real decline of the US and the Anglo-saxon influence in this part of the world and will accelerate China's dominance as the rule setter. So it is not all pain and no gain for China to embark on a non-peaceful reunification exercise so be careful of what you wish for.
A non-peaceful reunification exercise will mean that the bargaining chips on the Taiwan side will be down to its last dime. There will not be 1 country 2 systems, there will only be one system if people from both sides have to die. The wise thing to do is to start negotiations and bargaining while you have the chips and some bargaining power.
In the event of the worst case scenario; an all out invasion of Taiwan militarily; Tsai Ing Wen, Su Tseng Chan, You Si Kun. Lai William and Wu Joseph will be in the first class cabin with other US nationals on China approved evacuation flights out of Taipei while young Taiwanese donning military uniform will either die in the battle field or surrender to be prisoner of war. And yes, Su Tseng Chan will be carrying his broomstick with him on the flight.. not to fight the PLA to the last broomstick but he needs it to keep his mansion in the US clean.
2 years after reunification, a memorial tower will be built in central Taipei commemorating young Taiwanese soldiers who died in the reunification war because they have been duped to sacrifice their lives by the gang of five traitors living as disgraced exiles in the US.

From a Taiwanese, this is a good video which address many important and correct perspectives, however two things need to be added for clarifications, one, the current China or PRC has never ruled Taiwan, so there’s no such thing as “unification,” it’s actually invasion. Second, Ching dynasty”is a different people and different country, Ching didn’t see itself as China nor Chinese, so China hasn’t ruled Taiwan, it was Ching ruled Taiwan, and in ROC period of China, ROC didn’t rule Taiwan at all, ROC flees to Taiwan as parasite, control Taiwanese people with terror. Taiwanese people spent decades to peacefully transfer political power from ROC Chinese to Taiwanese people, and currently don’t change the name of the country due to pressure from China PRC and the US. The process is very tough, we Taiwanese people are very proud of what we’re doing on this island and what we’ve accomplished

The ROC lost the civil war with PRC on China's mainland and self-exiled to Taiwan in 1949. The United Nations in 1971 recognized the People's Republic of China (PRC) as the legitimate government of China with no change to its territories. why it is unacceptable, because it is stolen by a communist instead of a "free world" countries? The japanese copied everything from the west until the 70s. Even taiwanese products was called knockoff brands until around 2010. Look at any laptop from msi, asus before 2010 and you will see they were just copied straight from dell or hp with cheaper price.
You should say "this is unacceptable for a communist country to access technology to develop, they must always stay poor". That is much more correct.

    • @gregparrott
      @gregparrott 2 роки тому +1

@@davelee4464 1) I'm old enough to tell you first hand that Japanese copying of designs WAS a political and legal issue in the '70's or early 80's. I remember congressional hearings instigated by the automotive industry on the subject.
      2) What is more substantial here is not just copying the design, but stealing the actual, physical assets (masks) used to make the product, the physical equipment used to make the product, as well as the scale of the theft (thousands of companies in one go). This doesn't just copy a design, it stops the creator from making them.
      3) The communist angle is only part of the issue. China was communist when the industrialized nations, including the U.S., invited China into the World Trade Organization (WTO). This conflicts with your 'must always stay poor' narrative. The west knew China would become an economic superpower despite being communist. Deng Xiaoping set the tone for an opening with the industrialized nations. This was bolstered by Jiang Zemin. It was hoped China would at least open up to more democratic values, and adhere to the WTO's rules. (e.g. A floating currency exchange rate).
      4) The Taiwan issue is also more than just a U.S. vs. China issue. Namely, the TAIWANESE PUBLIC is opposed to being subsumed into China. You should ask 'Why?' China's communist government likely could have found a diplomatic solution similar to the 'states rights' concept used in the U.S. and to a similar degree in the European Union.
But China chose a more confrontational path with pretty much ALL of its neighbors. The absurd 'Nine Dash' claim in the south China, is one example (constructing artificial islands on waters belonging to other nations, militarizing the islands, stopping other nations from fishing and mining in their own waters, claiming roughly a million square miles ranging up to 800 miles from China). Another example is China violating their 1997 agreement with Great Britain sea with respect to Hong Kong.
      5) Just look at the sheer number of large, multinational companies in China. They don't care if the government is capitalist or communist. The governments in which these companies are headquartered didn't care that much either. However, both do care about intellectual property theft, forced technology transfer, arbitrary laws, bribery, copying and competition by subsidized state owned enterprises, dumping, etc.
The point to all this is that China's government's own actions had more to do with the current conflict than merely being communist.

(Just in case you're wondering, China ranks 82nd in the same Report. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand how an unhappy country has the nerve to say they wanted to "liberate" a country where people actually are content with their lives? Liberate what? Liberate Taiwanese from their happy little lives?)

Hi, here is a young Taiwanese thoughts from me:
We ourselves think that we are already an independent country and not part of China.
This should be the thinking of most middle-aged and young people in Taiwan.
Except for about half of the elderly who think we are Chinese, we no longer think we are Chinese. I'm only Taiwanese.
Those half of the elderly are usually vested interests of the Kuomintang, or old thinkers left over from the party-state era.
They are just because they controlled some high-ranking public officials and military power in the past years, which led to a higher voice. In fact, they can hardly represent the ideas of most Taiwanese.
In the news that I have known and accepted, I have never heard of any local or central government in the United States saying that "Taiwan is a part of China."
In terms of whether Taiwan is a part of China, I think those of us who live in Taiwan should have more say than China and the United States.
We don't really want to continue to maintain the status quo, but are forced to maintain the status quo.
The existence of "China" in our country name makes most countries unwilling to recognize our sovereignty, but deleting "China" in the country name will cause China to have an excuse to go to war, so our "maintain status quo" is compelling.
If there was no threat from China, it would be easy to delete the word "China" based on the current national conditions on the island of Taiwan, and the so-called "One China Principle" or "One China Policy" would not oppress Taiwanese to participate in trade, health and International affairs such as sports competitions.
Unlike the situation of South and North Korea, we are absolutely inferior to China in terms of military and economy, but we are trying very hard to defend our democracy and freedom.
Despotism, dictatorship, and suppression of freedom are things we don't want to see. There are already examples of Hong Kong and Xinjiang before us. Please allow us to reject China's occupation.
Thank Al Jazeera for his exposure to Taiwan. I think we need to work harder to gain a voice. We also hope that more people can support Taiwan, thanks.

I think it started during Ma yinjiu’s time as president when military service was henceforth reduced to 4 months and Taiwan began with regular soldiers instead of traditional conscript system. But how greatly had it benefitted both in defense and economically when these young people now have more time pursuing a career? Or Taiwan can’t have both at the same time.
I remember, in the 80s when we see Taiwan marines, we have a lot of respect for them. Taiwan’s strong men. It’s been a long time ago.
