Thank you both, thoroughly enjoyed this video. A sharp reminder how wastful some people are. Well done for reminding everyone. I have also picked up on my travels and have had some great finds. Uncle Bulgaria would be proud of you both.
I was thinking the exact same thing 😂 I worked for a company that sold a patio set a number of years ago, I guess they bought enough to sell in their top selling stores, which happened to be one of the stores I worked at, so we got a set. The company wanted soo much money for it as it was the new "fad/craze" it never sold. Over the next few years they tweaked the price down, up, sideways and back down again. Only to be sold and bought back by the customer (on the same day) with a refund issued. Eventually it was deemed to get sent back to the distribution centre, but never got picked up (like everything else that doesn't get sold or is damaged). Anyhow the staff that smoked strategically placed it and enjoyed it for 2 summers before it went missing. The names that this person was called I will never forget.😂
LOVE this episode. Shows there really is truth behind the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Too much waste in the world. Than you for sharing! Hope you do more episodes like this one. Fun to go treasure hunting and so kind of you to donate many of the unwanted items to charity. Blessings to you both!
It's incredible what people will throw out. I live in Mission BC in Canada and evey year in May we have a spring cleaning week where everyone puts their stuff curbside they would like to get rid of. People drive up and down the streets collecting what they like and the garbage men collect what is left on garbage day and you would be amazed at what people will just toss to the curb.
I often watch a couple of US dumpster diving channels. This is was so much more interesting being UK. Bet you'll be doing it again !! (hope so). It really is amazing the stuff that gets thrown out . Could so easily be donated to charity and find another home. BTW the bird print is well known - The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius
Good on you guys, braver than me! I personally wouldn't do this because of two very dangerous things that unforunately inhabit the detritus of public bins, i.e: rats and dirty needles, and it would only take a single puncture wound from either to breach even protective gloves and seriously wreck your health. Be careful!
Hi Nick and Andrea. How fascinating! Interested to see the chair when its done, although personally I would strip it, sand back and wax - looks nicer than varnish and less work👍 Also re. Re-donating. Don't forget that little local charities always need raffle prizes, so things like new books, jigsaws and DVD's can have a new life and raise money donated as donated prizes... I often pick new stuff while I'm out thrifting for this purpose👍 Keep saving the junk... its surprising what's out there ❤️
It is amazing what people throw away a friend now passed made an extremely healthy living as a skip truck driver and reseller. He said that the university's accommodation at the end of term provided very rich pickings
Always enjoy a good dumpster dive. I noticed as you fished out the DVDs, you were moving aside small white plastic bins/drawers. Since you were taking the DVDs, it would have been faster/easier to fill the bins for carrying them to the car, so you didn’t have to shift them loose. If they turned out to be refrigerator crisper drawers, even better, since they can also be sold (if they have a brand and part number) just like the parts for the Kitchen Aid. 😉
I’ve had tons of amazing stuff from the charity shop bins! Found a 100 year old merrythought pull along dog worth a bit and just so much vintage and antique items. Also found a leather purse with £5 in it 😀
I've never been dumpster diving, although I would love to. However, I live in an area where fly tipping is rife, so I don't need to go anywhere. My recent find was a brand new pair of Doc Martins, which I promptly sold on Ebay for more than I earn in a day at my office job. I've had quite a few finds like this - New Balance trainers, Nike trainers, Addidas trainers, Converse - brand new in a box, a nearly new tablet etc etc. Thanks fly tippers. I imagine dumpster diving would be great in London. Career goals.
I’d be to nervous that someone would freak out if they caught me digging in their bins. A grocery store near us has a motion activated warning like robbo cop “ please move away from the bins” etc
Books, dvds and vinyl are one of the most found things in the bins there's no point saving it and donating to another store it will just end up back in a bin because people just don't buy them anymore 😢
I want to try this but worried about being caught on cctv, I’m sure it is not legal in the uk . Although I live in Scotland where there is no trespass law
I found a dozen fake roses in a Barnardo’s bin. Individually wrapped with ribbon and a plastic packet round them. I took them to the graveyard and put them on graves that didn’t have anything on. I’ve saved hundreds of items from charity bins, particularly Barnardo’s. It’s disgusting how much they throw. I’ll never donate items to charity again
I remember seeing poundlands leftover stock chucked in rubbish next to where I used to work. Why not offer the stuff for free before chucking it all in the bin!!
Great video, some of the things people throw away. My fav, i am with Andrea, the chair. Andrea could you please do a videos of you refurbishing it from start to finish. "Maybe a mini series."
Hi Nic & Andrea. Did this in the late 90s and found some great items .... kitted my children's rooms out with ex displays from **smiths as the were changing there childrens reading corner....... books electronic and stationary also. B***s is another good one as they chuck a lot away ! 8 have moved and all the dumster areas seem to be locked ..... joined a dumster dive group on fb and going to give it another try ...... hope you find lots !!!
It's so shocking the number of things shops throw in bins, and it's all still useful in good condition. You were in my hometown not far away from the last place you were at.
I would love to see more dumpster diving videos! I live in a small town, dumpster diving isn't really worth it. BUT I do find lots of shipping boxes at a little store here in my town. I same tons of money just going there about once a month and filling the car up!
Some Great finds ,you should do it more often,i used look in a few charity shop bins founds some great re- salable stuff,i seen , people take donations in the front there walk out back and throw it in the bin ,
It's a shame that people donate to charity shops for their donations to be thrown away. It's mad! Even if they sell the DVDs 4 for £1 it's better than throwing them away! Puts me off donating to charity shops.
and chops wires and destroys things so no one else can use them. corporate greed big charity chains and overpaid managers and shareholders should be boycotted
Charity shops need to get their heads out of "ebay" mindset and go back to what they used to do - sell what they get for whatever they can get for it. If that means 10 DVDs for £1, it's £1 more for their charity than they had rather than throwing someone's donation out.
Exactly - we see some shops doing so well churning stuff over fast while others seem to be struggling while charging high prices and filling their bins with unsold stock.
I've just recently stumbled upon dumpster diving UK channel and it's criminal what gets thrown out (I'm a bit of a skip diver but never a dumpster diver),strangely enough I thought of your channel and the stock you could find.Good job, hope to see some more
Not quite dumpster diving, but one of my fave charity shops for stock pick ups had a bag of free stuff to good home. Two pairs of diving goggles and some other diving stuff. The goggles have a value of £30 and £15, I haven't priced everything up yet, but it's all going in my eBay shop that's for sure.
You are able to dumpster dive if the bins are out in the open and on public land while not being locked, but you may be asked to move along. However, if a bin is stored on private property the diver could possibly be prosecuted for trespassing
Wow ! Is right guys 🎉... I'd love to go through the Everton official shops skips, for my own usage 😉 as I'm not a reseller, but I know if there's even a slight issue with a coat or shirt ect they bin them, they do have a great community at Everton Football Club, but the shop by the ground, and the bigger one too, I'ts criminal what they throw, kids and people who can't afford the merchandise would be thrilled with it ... Jayne 💞💙

I watch a uk dumpster diver channel and all the boxes and void fill I see I think Nic would love all that 😀 I think you’ve watched him in the past…great video it’s like a treasure hunt and such a waste of decent items 😮 hope you do more 👍
I’ve seen a few comments where people have been moaning about charity shops dumping donations, but my local charity shop has “donations” donated that are broken, dirty and just disgusting, so they aren’t always just getting rid of good items, they are doing what the previous owners should have done, but are just to lazy or can’t be bothered to do themselves.
Used to work for a big furniture retailer in the bargain section. I cant speak for what charity shops have to deal with, but as a store we used to throw away tonnage a week in products. It was sorted to be recycled and we even got money for things like cardboard and metal. But sometimes it was just about space and if it was worth selling it, could of price every single thing but then stuff would just sit and get more and more damaged. At some point its just not worth it and you learned over time that certain items were better off going straight in the bin. I did over the last couple of years o worked there, manage to get the store to donate things like wood and paint and toys to local school and charities. I know it sounds stupid but on soft toys if the safety label had been cut off we werent legally allowed to sell it, even at a knocked down price. So rather that throw it i would collect tgem and donate them. Once even filling a local nursery workers car to the brim, only enough room left for her in the drivers seat and that was it. A cacoon of teddybear, sharks and all sorts of toys.
I work at a charity, and Charities give dvds a limited timescale to sell, and sadly...they just don't shift...even at 5 for £1... Get your small church charity to speak to the high street one to maybe pay a token gesture for the dvds they bin.... Charities don't have an infinite amount of storage, but always have "new" donations, so it's a never ending tide of dvds.. sadly... They have to go somewhere, and without any additional fuel / staffing / handling costs... The bin is usually the way forward.
I don't want to put a downer on this, but apparently the law states that the Trash/Rubbish belongs to the person who originally deposited it in the receptacle, until the private or council local government contractor collects it, then it belongs to them. This makes sense, from a liability stand point. Example; What if said dumpster diver was injured in the process of taking the object from the dumpster, the law above means they wouldn't have any legal premise to sue the original depositor. Also what if the original depositor/owner changed their mind and decided to take back the items, it would technically be their legal right to take back their item/items. But, If they went back and found their item/items were missing, due to a dumpster diver taking it, then the law above means that the dumpster diver committed an act of theft. If you must dumpster dive, always ask permission first.
@@Dirlewanger44 well let me enlighten you the police use the theft by finding concept to arrest people for dumpster diving but its extremely rare however this law does not apply to dumpster diving it applies to items that have been lost by there owner for example you lose your wallet or a mobile phone and the person who finds it does nothing to find the rightful owner that is theft by finding, trouble is alot of police officers do not know the meaning of the law and mistakenly arrest people under this law they would never get a conviction from me as i have spent years studying waste law, the police do not have jurisdiction to enforce anything regarding waste law in the uk only the environment agency does and any arrest or conviction by the police is invalid and void of force or effect. hope this clears up the legalities for you.
I used to have a contract with one of the major charity shops delivering larger items here in the UK. You would be surprised at the number of things they just throw out. 90% of what goes in the bins could be used by someone. I one time seen them take a large donation of dvds books, etc. They were taking them straight to the bin from the guy who donated them. It's discusting.
If that was your first time diving, I thought you did brilliantly, well done. And you saved some really good bits for selling, and some great bits for your donation pile. So all in all it a big 👍 from me. 🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🎃🎃🎃
You referenced DUMPSTER DIVING recently so I searched this out. I am so astonished at what you found I am almost speechless. . My personal view is that ANY collectable that is new, unused and sealed will have value. And if you are the only person who has one, that value could be high. So I would have sent the POKEMON P.O.S. to a specialist auction house. . And although you probably made the right decision with NO DICE could I be excused for saying that you were holding NEW copies and checking the SOLD listings for USED copies. If there is a NO DICE fan out there, she would PAY UP for a new copy. . I WILL have a scount around my local area to see if I can find any of these skips. This is a new concept to me, so I haven't a clue if there is or not. Thankyou for this surprising information. .
If you're taking wires then you should take anything with an electric motor in it as generally it's full of copper and will come under small motors at the scrapyard. The base of the blender would have been perfect.
I think the rules in the US are a bit hazy. It seems to❤ vary state to state. Some have notices saying you can’t dumpster dive, some have compactors so you can’t take stuff and some retail company’s destroy stuff to put people off like spraying it with paint or cutting things up. The best ones I’ve watched are at the college dorms when the kids are going home. They bring in huge dumpsters and people get loads of good stuff because they clear their dorms and throw most stuff, household, clothes, all sorts. I’m not sure what rules are here in Uk
Last week you were on ebay top table pocketing £10k this week your dumpster diving what happened? Did you lose all your money at the resorts world casino next to the nec Birmingham
Surprised they hadn’t sliced the discs with a Stanley knife, as I’m reliably told that is what the procedure is when disposing of them. And yes, it’s a real shame this goes on, but at the same time the big name charity shops have explicitly stated they don’t want dvds and cds anymore so take them to independent or non profit charities
I used to work at a university in the facilities department so i was always taking things home to sell on ebay. Its a horrendous throw away culture but im glad I was able to repurpose some things
Good luck to anyone who does it and finds good stuff. It’s nothing to do with being a hater or bitter There are laws which probably won’t be enforced but your factually wrong if you think it’s in the bin and free for taking. Personally I love seeing people find treasures and think more should be done to save things from landfill
The charity shops pay a percentage of their sales turnover to the charity. They are effectively a business so it makes sense for them to get rid of stock not sold. But it doesn’t make sense chucking it out. Some of my local charities started sifting out good items for their eBay store! Maybe people like yourselves could liaise with them to get new stock for a low cost. Everyone’s a winner. Is it technically illegal dumpster diving in the UK? Another crazy thing. Enjoying your videos from a verified customer. 👍
I think this video is brilliant, one of my favourites. I’m inspired to do it myself I’ve only done ones by where I buy my packaging for more boxes. Dumpster diving!!! I’m up for it
Dumpster diving is not technically illegal in the UK, as rubbish isn't seen as anyone's property unless it is located on private land. Even then I’m pretty sure the peoples who private land it is are not going to give a rats ass if taking something out the bin, they chucked it away!
I used to volunteer at a Hospice Donation Centre for 3 years and you would not believe the waste & illogical decision making especially re. books. The final straw was being bullied & the manager telling me that i was imagining it when i reported it to him.
Hi Nic & Andrea! Your video was very interesting but not surprising. I work in a Charity shop in Scotland and we really struggle to sell DVDs. We literally can't give them away and this is a problem for all the other shops round about me. In fact Many won't accept them anymore. We do our best trying to sell them (plus everything gets scanned) and we pass along what doesn't sell to our sister shops but it's just passing the problem along the line. When people are donating their life's collection (crates of the things) and we only sell 20 per week they do eventually end up getting binned. I have however, never thrown out a Mario game😅 I hate putting things into landfill, and save what I can but we have to concentrate on what generates income for the charity (and that isn't DVDS). If you know of any companies that would take them for free I would be very interested. Kind Regards Rachel.
As i said in the video there are a couple of places locally who do really well selling them at 10 for £1 - or even a crate at a time for £5 - so we can save them that way, we have accumulated so many more since this video so I may try passing some on through facebook too
@@NicHills they are, it's always good to get things for free when they are expensive. Hence why I always keep whenever possible boxes so I can pack things in if needed, after a sale etc. But when I sold a camera on eBay I brought a padded envelope set and mailing bags from Tesco for a reasonable price which I can't remember how much it was.
Thank you both, thoroughly enjoyed this video. A sharp reminder how wastful some people are. Well done for reminding everyone. I have also picked up on my travels and have had some great finds. Uncle Bulgaria would be proud of you both.
Great video. I’m reluctant to donate stuff to charity shops these days and I often leave things in my driveway and they are gone overnight.

LOL - no it's a furniture store, they put unwanted furniture by the bins every day...

I loved this ! Seeing what is thrown away and can be reused , brilliant, hope you do some more. Xx
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, saving all those items was fantastic, good luck with the chair it looks fabulous.👍😀

Charities don't have an infinite amount of storage, but always have "new" donations, so it's a never ending tide of dvds.. sadly... They have to go somewhere, and without any additional fuel / staffing / handling costs... The bin is usually the way forward.
Might be an idea to explain the legal side of "Dumpster Diving"
They probably don’t know the legalities which is why they haven’t commented on it
More like they do know the legalities but don’t want to admit it
@@Dirlewanger44 well let me enlighten you the police use the theft by finding concept to arrest people for dumpster diving but its extremely rare however this law does not apply to dumpster diving it applies to items that have been lost by there owner for example you lose your wallet or a mobile phone and the person who finds it does nothing to find the rightful owner that is theft by finding, trouble is alot of police officers do not know the meaning of the law and mistakenly arrest people under this law they would never get a conviction from me as i have spent years studying waste law, the police do not have jurisdiction to enforce anything regarding waste law in the uk only the environment agency does and any arrest or conviction by the police is invalid and void of force or effect. hope this clears up the legalities for you.
I picked up a working air fryer today off the kerb 😁. Not sure how I'll get it home though as it is verboten!
Great haul for your first go.
Thanks
I used to have a contract with one of the major charity shops delivering larger items here in the UK. You would be surprised at the number of things they just throw out. 90% of what goes in the bins could be used by someone. I one time seen them take a large donation of dvds books, etc. They were taking them straight to the bin from the guy who donated them. It's discusting.
i love what you did there i would love to do this but some places have the police turn up
One mans smoking chair is another mans treasure
LOL no - this place throws out furniture daily, they leave their unwanted stuff by the bins
If that was your first time diving, I thought you did brilliantly, well done. And you saved some really good bits for selling, and some great bits for your donation pile. So all in all it a big 👍 from me. 🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🎃🎃🎃
Glad you enjoyed it
You referenced DUMPSTER DIVING recently so I searched this out. I am so astonished at what you found I am almost speechless.
.
My personal view is that ANY collectable that is new, unused and sealed will have value.
And if you are the only person who has one, that value could be high.
So I would have sent the POKEMON P.O.S. to a specialist auction house.
.
And although you probably made the right decision with NO DICE
could I be excused for saying that you were holding NEW copies and checking the SOLD listings for USED copies.
If there is a NO DICE fan out there, she would PAY UP for a new copy.
.
I WILL have a scount around my local area to see if I can find any of these skips.
This is a new concept to me, so I haven't a clue if there is or not.
Thankyou for this surprising information.

If you're taking wires then you should take anything with an electric motor in it as generally it's full of copper and will come under small motors at the scrapyard. The base of the blender would have been perfect.
yes good point
Those stainless dishes are ‘gastronorm’ widely used and they can be expensive to buy.
Highly divisive video gets 11k views... Kerching. These guys just know how to make moolah 😂
where's your gloves, Nick great video I watched alot like this it's criminal what companies throw away 🤔
Wow 😮
I used to work at a university in the facilities department so i was always taking things home to sell on ebay. Its a horrendous throw away culture but im glad I was able to repurpose some things
That might be an employees smoking chair lol
LOL no - this place throws out furniture daily, they leave their unwanted stuff by the bins
The amount of haters and bitter people on here is funny. It’s in the bin and free for the taking 🙏🏾💜
Good luck to anyone who does it and finds good stuff. It’s nothing to do with being a hater or bitter There are laws which probably won’t be enforced but your factually wrong if you think it’s in the bin and free for taking. Personally I love seeing people find treasures and think more should be done to save things from landfill
Get your facts right mong

The charity shops pay a percentage of their sales turnover to the charity. They are effectively a business so it makes sense for them to get rid of stock not sold. But it doesn’t make sense chucking it out. Some of my local charities started sifting out good items for their eBay store! Maybe people like yourselves could liaise with them to get new stock for a low cost. Everyone’s a winner. Is it technically illegal dumpster diving in the UK? Another crazy thing. Enjoying your videos from a verified customer. 👍
Not technically illegal unless you are trespassing... the police are not concerned about someone recycling someone else's waste
😎😎😎😎GGG-unit scores
I think this video is brilliant, one of my favourites.
I’m inspired to do it myself I’ve only done ones by where I buy my packaging for more boxes.
Dumpster diving!!! I’m up for it
Dumpster diving is not technically illegal in the UK, as rubbish isn't seen as anyone's property unless it is located on private land. Even then I’m pretty sure the peoples who private land it is are not going to give a rats ass if taking something out the bin, they chucked it away!
Exactly

I used to volunteer at a Hospice Donation Centre for 3 years and you would not believe the waste & illogical decision making especially re. books. The final straw was being bullied & the manager telling me that i was imagining it when i reported it to him.
Will you be doing this again? Great finds!!!!!
Keep safe and happy XXXXXXXX 😘
Why don;t charity shops just give them away? Terrible when people have donated. A box outside with FREE on it!
As i said in the video there are a couple of places locally who do really well selling them at 10 for £1 - or even a crate at a time for £5 - so we can save them that way, we have accumulated so many more since this video so I may try passing some on through facebook too
Nice to see that you're recycling by reusing them cardboard supplies, they do say one man's rubbish is another man's treasure.
Packing supplies are so expensive so it makes sense to get it for free
@@NicHills they are, it's always good to get things for free when they are expensive. Hence why I always keep whenever possible boxes so I can pack things in if needed, after a sale etc. But when I sold a camera on eBay I brought a padded envelope set and mailing bags from Tesco for a reasonable price which I can't remember how much it was.
Baguette bags? Packaging material 😊?
Love Mike... :)
