Thanks for watching ❤❤❤

Barry has a normal male speaking voice. The falsetto is just for the music. When I hear this song I always picture John Travolta dancing in the movie. There are some great disco tracks from the 70s and early 80s.

This is called singing in falsetto. Barry’s voice the lead in this song has a normal male voice. All three brothers were able to sing in falsetto but Barry was known for the best falsetto at that time. Another great song that was a # 1 hit and was very popular in the disco era was YOU SHOULD BEE DANCING by The Bee Gees with Barry taking lead again. It’s a very popular dance music. ❤❤❤

OMG I was about 14 in 1977 when this song came out. I remember watching my best friend's older brother and his girlfriend practicing their Disco dance moves all week long to be ready for Friday night at the clubs. I was in awe. I wished so badly that I could go to clubs, but watching those two was like magic. They were so good.
If you're going to explore Disco, you should know a few things. There is American disco largely based on R&B and Eurodisco which is more electronica based (Donna Summer straddled both kinds). There was a huge animosity among many Rock fans for Disco music culminating in "Disco Demolition Night" which derailed the Bee Gee's career (they went on writing huge hits for others), the reasons are complex. Disco music was primarily for fun, escapism, and dancing, dancing, dancing. Some critics say it wasn't "serious" music and it was never meant to be (neither was a lot of Rock) so don't expect that, but it lives on influencing music today with electronica (like Donna Summer's "I Feel Love") and with people like Nile Rodgers (of Chic) and Giorgio Moroder still producing hits today for others.
You want some Disco? Here are some picks (too many for sure, but Disco gets so little attention that I couldn't help it):
Donna Summer "Last Dance", "Love to Love You", "I Feel Love", Bad Girls", "No More Tears" w Barbra Streisand
Chic "Good Times" and "Le Freak"
    Patti LaBelle "Lady Marmalade"
Sylvester "You Make Me Feel", "Dance (Disco Heat)", "I (Who Have Nothing)", and "Do You Wanna Funk"
Barry White "Can't Get Enough of Your Love" and "You're the First, the Last, My Everything"
KC & the Sunshine Band "Boogie Shoes", "I'm Your Boogie Man", "Get Down Tonight"
    Evelyn Champagne King "Shame"
Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive" and "Never Can Say Goodbye"
    Hughes Corporation "Rock the Boat"
    GQ "Disco Nights"
Vicki Sue Robinson "Turn the Beat Around"
MFSB "T.S.O.P (the Sound of Philadelphia)"
Taste of Honey "Boogie Oogie Oogie"
    Odyssey "Native New Yorker"
Giorgio Moroder "From Here to Eternity" and "Too Hot to Handle"
Tavares "Don't Take Away the Music"
    Dan Hartman "Countdown"
Heatwave "Boogie Nights" and "Groove Line"
Lime "You're My Magician", "Your Love", and "Unexpected Lovers"
Diana Ross "The Boss", "I'm Coming Out", and "Upside Down"
Village People "Go West", "YMCA", and "Macho Man"
    Cheryl Lynn "Star Love"

Disco was my youth, we went many weekends to the disco, having fun, drinking, (its allowed with 16 in my country Austria), flirting, and dancing the whole night. And the Bee Gees music (soundtrack from the movie saturday night fever was a huge part of the disco music. This song belonged to the slow dancing, where boys with the girls danced very close to each other, kissing....! It was a great time, maybe the best and most beautiful in my life!

I was too young to go to the disco as well. I know they played these songs at them though. My brother used to go to the disco and I was jealous. The Bee Gees had older songs before Saturday Night Fever. In their older songs, their voices were deeper. They did falsetto for the disco songs. For disco songs, you could listen to Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees or That's the Way I Like It by K.C. and the Sunshine Band.

If you want another side to Barry's vocals try something like "The Change is Made", "Sound of Love", "Bury Me Down by the River", or "Don;t Wanna Live Inside Myself" all will showcase his more soulful chest voice. For something more uptempo rocky you could try "Every Second, Every Minute" or maybe "Down the Road". For a funkier tune try "Nights on Broadway" or "Wind of Change" both of which are primarily chest voice with some falsetto ad libs thrown in. Also, check out "Monday's Rain" to experience the Bee Gees low register - this is a Robin/Barry shared lead but one of the lowest register Bee Gee songs I can think of at the moment. The one word I associate most with the Bee Gees is diversity. Or maybe SuperAmazingDiverseMusicalGenius, lol. For me, the hands down best disco song is "You Should Be Dancing".

One word...... FALSETTO. Barry Gibb may not have invented falsetto but he sure used it to it's max. I've heard Barry talk in interviews and his voice is in what I would call a "normal" range. It's certainly not high like Michael Jacksons talking voice. Barry sings "normal" (no falsetto) in some songs There have been other groups that sing in falsetto such as "The Tokens", Michael Jackson of course, Ambrosia, The Righteous Brothers (one sang falsetto), The Beach Boys and The Temptations. I believe what made The Bee Gees stand out was the mix of falsetto with almost perfect harmonies with the other two brothers.

Some disco tunes were fun - the Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band covered by a producer called Meco (Domenico Monardo) as a disco funk tune is a favourite.
