@@sm_4859 Totally agree. "Stairway" gets more airplay and could be considered Zep's "Magnum Opus" but it is not, in my view, Zep's 'best' work.
Just to clarify "Magnum Opus" meaning 'most important' work or the work with which they are most closely associated. "Kashmir", "In My Time of Dying" and "Achilles Last Stand" are better songs to my ears.

This is the first time this band had performed together in over 27 years
since this song was released in 1975. The drummer is the son of the
original drummer for Zed Zeppelin since his father died in 1980. When it
was announced the band would get back together for this one concert,
there were over a million request for tickets for a 20,000 seat concert
hall in the first hour. Still holds the record in for most requested
tickets. At this time the band members or in their late 50's and early
60's and they rejected the suggestion of using auto-tune or any other
    Electronics Enhancements for the concert.
The keyboard player, John Paul Jones is playing bass with his left foot
while playing the keyboard? They wanted to do it just like
they did back in 1975. Now you can understand why they have been voted
the best Rock & Roll band.

Personally, I think in this video they looked and sounded better than many current artists out there today (although I do believe this concert is from ‘07, but still!). I think their studio stuff is great, but I feel that they sound on a whole different level when they play live, very much like The Rolling Stones. I know my dad had an opportunity to see Zeppelin live back in the 70’s, but he turned it down and I bust his chops all the time because of it (he certainly regrets it). Glad you enjoyed this, I think the live version of this when they were in their prime was truly something else. My Led Zep recommendation: Fool in the Rain. A little different, but I don’t think it deviates too far away from their traditional stuff, so I think you’d still enjoy it. One of my top three favorites from them for sure. As always, great reaction and input on this guys, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Rumor I've heard: This song was written while traveling through northern Africa on a long car trip to Morocco. Apparently, it was meant to be about the Casbah which is in that part of the world but somehow was confused with Kashmir, an Indian province adjacent to the Pakistani border. Somewhat similar names, but thousands of miles apart in distance and in culture.

Most people seem oblivious to the fact that copyright laws changed significantly in 1972 and judge Led Zeppelin by post 1972 standards. Not all, but much of what is considered stolen by them using today's standards was both legal and typical prior to 1972.

Interesting reactions from you guys. I'm not a big Led Zep fan myself, like Father, but this is my favourite from them and I much prefer it over Stairway To Heaven. I think Ethan, you nailed it when you said it had a more "epic feeling", because I definitely like music on an epic scale and the big difference between those two songs is that the lyrics and vocals are the most important part of Stairway and on Kashmir the vocals are more like an additional instrument to the epic sound created by the guitar riff and keyboards. I'd not seen this live performance before, so it was interesting to see a truly great studio band successfully reproduce their epic sound on a live stage. Not every studio band can do that. Hats off to them, and thank you two for treating us to this. Loved it. Kashmir is my favourite, and my vote for another Led Zep track would be Immigrant Song.

I think Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite live bands of all time. This is from a celebration of the life of Mr. Ahmet Ertegun. Ertegun was one if the co-founders of Atlantic Records (Led Zeppelin's label/distributor) - This was the first time since the death of John Bonham that the surviving members had done their full (3+ hour) concert set. The drummer for that show was Jason Bonham, the son of their late bandmate. - Jason was also behind the drum kit when Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart did their Kennedy Center Honours tribute "Stairway To Heaven" cover. Knowing that, it makes Jason's little glace skyward as Ann sings the last line of that song just a little more poignant.
So I'm going to go with a tune suggestion from the same album, "Boogie With Stu" -
The "Stu" in question is a mister Ian Stewart who was a founding member of the Rolling Stones. Kind of an interesting story actually, but nevertheless Stewart was a session keyboard player (often uncredited so you'd be surprised how many times you've actually heard him and never known it) - Stewart was also the Rolling Stones road manager for many years. "Boogie With Stu" is in a "Barrelhouse" style with a little bit of Honky-Tonk on the side.

That's really cool! It's awesome to hear how you're taking some time to develop a creative passion of yours, like learning to play instruments. And learning to play two (drums and guitar)? I think that's really impressive! Great job, man! Hope you continue to have fun and develop!
(The most I'd do is sing in the car, or do some air drumming or guitar while listening to music if I'm alone in the house. lol)
(But If I find a time between writing and my job, I think I'd like to try out some synth myself. Trent Reznor made me fall in love with that instrument. Maybe even guitar as well. I love music. Haha)
But yeah, as for the song itself. I remember listening to some Zepplin as a kid in the early-mid-2000s. Kashmir, and Communication Breakdown, are two songs that stood out to me from the record I listened to, and I didn't really explore them all that much since. Loved Kashmir especially, though. That beginning instrumental is iconic as heck for me. Feels like a main character in an action movie walking slowly forward, all stoic and ready to lay down some hands with the villains. lol
That, or like a lone traveler entering into uncharted territory with fortitude and grit. Haha
    ...... song reaction.....
I'm actually pretty surprised as well. His voice, at least in this live video, sounds smooth and fantastic. For someone who looks like he's on the older side here, his voice doesn't feel like it's aged at all. Feels like he may have refined it over the years, through great vocal training, to help keep it's longevity in-tact.
Yeeeaaahhhhh, play me them synth keys. lol Love how they add some high notes to the composition for added musical contrast.
Now that you're pointing out the guitar, I'm paying more close attention to it now. Excellent fills, and I like how he's able to play around with the melody a bit, while still keeping it's droning/noise quality that fills the gaps of the synth and drumming.
And when they all play together for the chorus, it's like the guitar is providing the mid-tones, while the drums occupy the lower end of that part. Or... maybe I'm missing the bass? If so, maybe the bass is helping fill that low tone with the punching of the drums, and I'm just having trouble picking it out.
That breakdown as well is a great change of pace, and allows the vocalist to show off his power and finesse. When a song gives a sort of break in between by changing it up, either slowing down or speeding up, is a sign of some great compositional work imo (kind of like contrast within the composition itself, rather than individual instruments). It's not always the case, but it's usually a thing I personally look for.
The part after that break down, at 6:12, changing up the composition AGAIN, was amazing. I like the soft inclusion of classical music undertones from the synth, with the music and the vocalist again showing off how great he is. lol :P
Definitely one of my favorite parts of this song. I'll have to listen to it in full (instead of pausing so much, like I'm down now, to type. Haha), but this is a highlight for sure.
And bringing it back to that iconic instrumental.... awesome.
Okay, Led Zepplin, my comment is long enough now. lol
Wait, you're still going? Oh god. XD
I see. You going to change it up again, adding back those classical undertones from the synth, powerful vocals, super great drum fills, droning guitar, etc? Okay, yes. I'm down for that. Another highlight of the song to jot down! lol
    Excellent ending right there!
    ...... post song reaction.......
    "For me, it's the synthesizer"
    YES!!! YES!!! Synthesizer love!!! XD
"I like this song more than Stairway"
Oh, how could I have forgotten stairway..... Yep. That's another great one, and yeah... I think I'm with you as well.
For me, I think I just like the composition and vibe of Kashmir more. Stairway is a great, great song, especially if I'm feeling like a more emotional listen. But Kashmir's change-ups, and it's grandiose nature, I think appeals to me more often than not compared to Stairway.
LZ's last tour, apparently, was in 1980, and they've had some reunion shows here and there ever since. Their last reunion show was in 2007, from what I read (but may have been with a different drummer).

Also after listening to this song, it reminds me of some suggestions with great vocal performances. :P
      Opeth - Strange Brew
Muse - New born (live at Wembley, or Glastonbury)
Devin Townsend - Kingdom (live at EMGtv)
Killswitch Engage - End of Heartache
Corpo-Mente - Saelli (Live at Music Drive Festival, Yerevan)
(out of like... a ton of songs I think I've suggested over the year. lol)
But, I'd like to add a couple more:
Dillinger Escape Plan - Milk Lizard (very punk-ish feel. Super fun song)
Leprous - Rewind (another fun, aggressive song. Not sure how you'd feel about the last couple minutes of it, but the rest I think you both would love)
There may be a Tame Impala, or Pond, suggestion in the near future. Both groups operate in psychedelic, progressive rock, which I think you both would get into pretty well.

At the time this concert was recorded, 2007, it had been almost 30 years since these guys quit touring, after John Bonhams death in 1980, and this track came out in early 1975 Robert Plant sounds as good here as he did back then.

Larry is partially correct .. they broke up & haven't toured since John Bonham's death in '80. However they did come together in 2007 for this special tribute vid concert with John Bonham's son .. Jason on drums. Plant was 59 here & Page was 61 .. so yes they had some age on them & is definitely amazing to me as well Ethan. I'm impressed you considered their age .. great job. LZ isn't in my top 5 but maybe in my top say dozen .. sooo many greats out there. Maybe Dad was somewhat affected by all the lawsuit controversy with them back when & he just got turned off. I believe this one-off concert took place in 2007. Still, they weren't young men then. Regarding Robert Plant, he seriously damaged his voice in 1972 during the band's tour of Japan. His trying to recreate the over-the-top vocals of the studio albums in a live setting took its toll, and his voice was never the same again. Even surgery couldn't repair the damage done. Unfortunately, this result would befall many rock singers of the 60s, 70s and afterward.
