Here’s what I learned over the last 25 years of playing. For the first 10 years of playing, I never took a divot and had lousy distance control and couldn’t produce enough spin when I needed it. When I started taking a divot, I truly knew my club distance control, and I have the ability to stop the ball on the green. It’s easier to take a divot every time than it is to flush every shot clean. I’m not a Professional, but you will definitely be more consistent with your ball striking once you find the right low point in your swing circle. For me, it’s about 3” after ball. For those who don’t take a divot, you’re fine, none of us are on tour, I’m just trying to help those who really want to improve their distance control.
Thanks for the comment. The middle of the divot is the true low point (club descending entering divot, ascending as exiting divot), so bottom of swing should be several inches past ball
LMFAO! The up north bigger divots things is not a joke! Literally launched an 18” beaver tail over my head this past weekend on a ~100yd wedge shot 😂😂😂
“A divot is a sign you made good contact”, unless its not because you chili dipped 6 inches in front of ball. That might he one if the most misleading statements about golf i have heard in a very long time. My buddy takes a divot almost every time and rarely it starts after strike, always before, and rarely struck well.
My best shots barely scuff the surface, no divot
It depends to some extent on speed, type of turf etc
@@Scratchgolfacademy my woods speed is usually 108-114. My irons around 85.

@@Scratchgolfacademy I would agree for most, but not for me. My divot length is short and shallow so that 3-4 inches after the ball is my low point.

It does make a difference Tomas
In Florida, rarely take a divot. In Chicago took large chunks
It does make a big difference
You are correct sir. I take big divots at really nice country clubs because they water all night but then at a muni it’s typically too hard to.
Down here in Bermuda grass land, you only make a small divot usually, even when you attack it steeply.
Fair enough, course conditions are a major factor
Best, Adam
Im starting to hit my irons well and hit them fuether than most of my friends, i dont take a divots at all really and its making me self conscious 😂
Keep at it!! Sounds like you’re making progress
@@Scratchgolfacademy thanks!I love golf!

It’s implied handle past ball at contact), if not directly stated that the divot should be after contact with the ball
No worries

"I find the ball is less resistant than the earth". Jack nicklaus !!!
Jack made that quote when asked why he tees his ball so high when using a driver
No worries

no divot no worries
When I’m flushing it, I don’t take divots
Don’t think that many seniors are on that platform…
No worries, thanks for watching the video
