I LOVE videos like this that show a person who is really struggling with something and how they "fix" the swing rather than simply showing a golf pro replicating a swing that he/she already hits nearly perfectly. Great video!
Perfect timing. Not sure why but in the last month, I went from 2.9 degrees from the inside to 7-8 degrees, missing fairways and greens. This compounds my issue of grounding behind the ball. thank you for this
im going to have to use that headcover drill and the wrist drill as well. after watching this, I feel that I tend to have my wrists pretty locked and then forcing it back through. i love how you dont try to completely change somebody's swing, but take what they have and make it more efficient
When I find time, I will give these a go. I feel like I'm the only person that can dart a pitching wedge 😅. Always had the issue of really low ball flights. Thank you for the tips.
Hey chris. I have a question. Why does lag put you in a proper path or do we do this to relax the wrist so we dont force the path. Hope this reaches you and thank you for all the great content for us golf addicts! 😊
Nice to see someone in my 10% bracket of not-over-the-top swingers. Jack seems to control it better than me though, I asily hook it, he seems to just be hitting low draws. Lots of people would be jealous (just that his approaches won't hold most greens I reckon). It's totally true though, the drill I need to repeat every now and then to correct the dreaded hook, make me feel like I come massively over the top (only to see the ball go straight-ish, LOL)
@ChrisRyanGolf is, imho, one of today's best instructors. His delivery style, using a phased approach, (no matter the skill level) teaches golfers not only proper mechanics, but the discipline and usefulness of patience and practice. He also delivers his instruction using the k-i-s-s principle which is by far one of his more valuable skills.
@@ryanmcdonnell665 I asked bec I figured your game is either really bad or really good. I get the swing is different for each person but there’s so many contradictory information from one instructor to the next. I’ll trust your advice about Chris and see if that helps. Mainly having a hard time with driver and a push with my 3 wood but lessons lately want a minimum of a one month commitment.
Hey Chris, the handle technique drill you did at the end. Is that something that you would want to apply with all clubs or is that only good for irons? Thanks!
Bryce Dechambeau was giving a lesson to a famous British golf UA-camr, Rick Shields and had him draw a line in a sand trap and practice taking a divot after contact with the line. It was great at teaching the proper downswing.
I can depend on the individual, I’d always start with gazing at the ball, but if the strike is poor then taking that gaze slightly towards the target can really help
Chris, on my irons shit, I always feel I am hitting more on top of the ball feeling. ( its npt a clean crisp shot). What does that mean? Anybody knows the reason and solutions?
Easiest way to play golf is think in terms of spinning the ball. The ball is dimpled for a reason. If the ball was made smooth, it wouldn't travel half as far as a dimpled one. Striking the ball with the intention of spinning it will give you longer flights and give you the so-called ball first and ground second swing. Actually, the best swing contacts the ground and ball at the same time which contacts the ball below the equator giving you max spin and yes, even the driver must spin the ball and you don't hit "up" on any shot.
Sometimes I feel like it is just as easy as either putting it back in your stance, for longer distance, or just play it more even for more feel. That's basically what he's doing here. If his club path was straighter.
I usually hit my pitch 100ft high and 135 yards down range. It looks good, but I’m not certain what it’s supposed to do. I can also say that hitting off turf is not helpful on the course. Go somewhere that lets you hit off grass.
I never take divots. My strikes reach upwards of 80 feet (6 & 7 & 8 irons) and constantly have the same distances. 6i - 165 to 175 yards. 7i - 150 to 155 yards. 8i 140 to 145 yards. I can shape my shots in any way I need to for the circumstances… I have 6 months experience…
Hi Chris I have been watching a video with Pete Cowen and he suggests keeping the right hand bent backwards through the ball and beyond using the right shoulder and hand pressure to create distance. The body turning throughout keeps the clubface square. This dosn’t seem to suggest a flexable wrist that you use. I would assume the club speed would benefit from relaxed wrists as you suggest. Do you use pressure on the back of the club with the right hand still bent back or do you use the whip of the club to create distance. confusing!!
Hey Rob, in this video I needed Jack to create more right wrist bend in transition as he has very little coming into impact. So I was trying to work more towards a delivery position where his trail wrist was more bent back which would then allow him to do exactly what Pete says, he was unable to do that at the start as he had very little stored up
@@ChrisRyanGolf For starters, it's really tough to unwind your hips when your knee is locked-out--without getting your upper body completely off-axis. And it's not much of a "power position" with the knee locked out either. Obviously, he's a beginner and you have bigger fish to fry. Didn't meant to be insulting....I'm just jealous....I'm stuck in the office 😅 (Think I'll edit my initial comment now)
Wait. A negative (though small) attack angle and the video shows the divot completely in front of the ball. You've lost me when you say that he's hitting it fat and on the upswing. What am I missing?
He's clearly early extending....and then chicken winging on the follow-through....to get the club back in line. He doesn't set up his arc on the backswing...and so he is compensating at every point after that..
Dude that's simply not true. It's like you don't realize that attack angle and swing path are two different things. Not to mention face to path and dynamic loft.
What isn’t true? Of course that are different, but also related, if you change your swing direction you also changed the low point and therefore attack angle
@@touristguy87 I am researching, I look to much smarter people than myself to get answers, you say I don’t realise that path and attack are different, so as you as smarter than me I’m asking for you explain why you believe that. Which part of the video got you to that conclusion?
One issue he has is seen at the very top/ stop of the back swing...he stops it very abruptly using his wrists to brake the momentum in preventing more carry behind him...because of that brake effect( abrupt stop) he feels the need to get the club going in the opposite direction using wrist muscles for the opposite direction...thus the cast seen...he needs to learn to let the club come around backside more freely at the top( relax more and have a bigger back swing)...i e. Daly...( Of course not that far)..but the same principle... That way the wrist won't start the downward action... Thus avoiding the dreaded cast
Love this coaching style. Adapting a decent golf swing with feel rather than a list of 100 things you need to do to have the "perfect swing".
