    I own a 17 performance pack Mustang Premium. The extra 3 grand was definitely worth it.
    The Torsion set-up alone, along with the brakes, can easily eat up the extra cash you spend on the performance pack if you were to put it on a stock GT, and I don't believe this was touched on this in your presentation.
    The extra performance goodies like the strut tower brace, which as stated in the video makes it easier to "point and shoot", stiffer bushings and springs, larger sway bars, heavy duty radiator, are basically frosting on the proverbial cake.
    It would be difficult to purchase and install all of these upgrades for 3 thousand dollars.
    With this being written, I enjoyed the review. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to more videos gentlemen.

      Eric Prochnow thanks man!! Yeah very good points, I think it would be a costly pain in the neck to do the upgrades yourself, much better idea to have someone do them for you and buy it as is

      Eric Prochnow thanks for the advice I'm looking at a 17 premium with Track Pack and was wondering if it was worth it.

    The Premium Performance Package in Ford's answer to the 1LE Camaro. It's well worth the price. Stiffer springs and shocks. A much bigger tire package and a big brake system. It's all engineered by the gearheads of at Ford so it all fits correctly and you haven't voided any warranties. Just the brake kit is about $2k. The gears are over $1k installled. Some friends and I compared it directly to my GR350R and a base GT. It shits all over the base GT. The gearing gets it off the line faster, wider rubber means less wheel slip. The car rides differently too if feels like a spring ready to snap a bit more nervous in a good way.Comparing it to the Shelby was a bit much. It's hard to believe they both share a lot of the same underpinnings But $3k is a no brainer. Cross off the adaptive cruise control or the nav in place of the PPP.

      Fred Garvin good points man, yeah I agree it's definitely worth it to anybody who loves driving, you have me all jealous over here of your gt350r!

  • @r000tbeer
    @r000tbeer 6 років тому +10

    I honestly don't even know how this is a valid question. For 3k, can you even replace the components in the aftermarket? You get the Ford Performance Street pack (minus lowering spring), 6 piston Brimbo brakes, 19" wheels/tires, upgraded radiator, strut tower brace, 3.73 diff gear, and a splitter for front brake cooling.

    Checking in after the 670 hp Roush supercharger install on our 2016 GT convertible manual trans w/3.31 gears. I got 285 Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires in the rear, 255's front and w/that tire and gearing, 670 hp is actually very manageable and hooks up nicely from a stop (I don't know how 3.73's are). The Coyote power build remains similar to stock but around 4k RPM hold on! It runs great and the power is super smooth and as a daily driver you'd never know it's supercharged unless you step on it. Unfortunately you can't hear much of the whine. However, I've had a starting issue since installing it (at a local Ford dealer that said they did a few of them, research dealers if you put one on). It starts hard after sitting for about 30 mins (but if only 10 mins or over an hour of sitting, it fires up perfectly), not sure what's going on there. I ended up getting the Roush warranty but I want to get it resolved. Be aware (at least in WI) insurance companies don't like you supercharging your Mustang, but rates didn't go up that much; I did have to switch insurance companies. MPG on a 800 mile road trip overall was just over 24 mpg w/a trip best interstate stretch of 70 mph of 27.2! In my normal driving when I was getting 17-18, there's only a 1-2 mpg penalty, it is not driven lightly! Overall I'm happy. I hope you and you all in Texas are doing well and recovering strongly! I hope the Whataburgers survived!

    Love the vid man! The dash is a PP thing. The PP also has a larger radiator. And the larger brakes won't really give you much noticeably street braking performance difference, but will give you much better performance on track because more heat capacity and less brake fade and what not. Source: I drive a 15 GT PP. Oh and the 3.73 torsen is worth every penny

    • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 4 роки тому

      Dude really 355 and 373 isnt that much different i bet it wouldnt be more than 1 mpg diff on the highway IF THAT. The trans gearing is close as hell in these models so its gonna be snappy weather its 331 355 or 373. 331 is similar to 410 in the 10 and older cars and 18 up cars with their long geared trans....355 is like 430 and 373 is like 456. There wont be much difference in them performance wise or mpg wise. Just get the pp car with 373 is the best gear for na dont worry about mpg and "daily driving" idk why people always say that "oh 355 are better for "daily"" wtf does that even mean? Lol. I mean its either a car driven on the highway alot or its not makes no difference if its a "daily" lol. People have feared the gear every since the old days when the dohc v8 first came to ford. The old 90s na 4.6 cobras were high winding engines...very similar to the coyote just an older not as good version...those cars when na become a beast with 456 gears instead of factory 327 but many people wont go beyond 373-410 because they think its gonna somehow make their car unstreetable but that could not be further from the truth. In town driving becomes easier in many ways and on the highway you might lose 3 mpg or so going from 327 to 456 on those cars...so the difference betwern 355 and 373 in these with their short ass trans gearing isn't really going to make any difference. If you are na and plan to stay that way get 373...if youre going for big power with boost 331 is best for many reasons. Dont worry about 373 tacking 4th before the quarter because once you add power and swap the manifold and spin it to 8k you won't be trapping the quarter beyond 4th it extends out the speed you can go in 4th enough to not have issues.
      331 = boosted
      373 = na
      No reason to be in the middle with 355 because it isnt that much different.

    I plan on picking up a 2018 base model. Most driving is daily driving for me. However, I'd like to install a strut tower kit, maybe a sway bar, and some nicer wheels (maybe 19's). So, do you guys recommend going to 19"? Does it affect the ride much going to 19" wheels? Also, how badly does it affect acceleration going to the bigger diameter 275's on a base model?

    • @DayneLeBlanc

    Awesome vid man. I picked up a non pp gt premium in 15. But so far I've been adding the pp parts afterwards. I have the strut tower brace, front and rear sway bars so far. But off the showroom the pp is a good bargain because you really don't save too much money doing it yourself if you price out the entire package aftermarket. Had the pp in my last mustang and gearing was too high for me as a daily. I think 3.55 gears is he magic number 4 a daily though.

    Im really torn on buying a 2018 Mustang GT or the GT premium with performance pack. Don't know if i want to spend the extra 2000k going from 301a to 400a. Then i want to buy the black versions of those SVE wheels you have. It turns out Dallas is only a couple hours from that shop so i may take a drive out there if i purchase. Do i need the extra stuff the performance pack has if i buy the gt with the 3.55? not sure if the brakes are that better.

I like Traction control too for bad weather day's but it does pull power and at the same time help you get the power to the road which is a weird thing.. I can bang second with traction on.. I will say with Traction Off all bets are off, You can get her side ways way easier.. I think the LSD locks up quicker with it on too maybe I just think it is??

    I would say it is worth the 3K because it will be faster and over all perform better! Where it gets even better is when the 2018 comes out and you can buy the performance pack with magnetic ride control and 10 speed auto! It will run me 53K because the over all price of the Mustang is going up in 2018. I am also adding the 401A pack and several others because I want everything to make the car nicer and I am hoping that the 2018's will have the heat and ac in the whole seat and not just the bottom. If not, hello Camaro!

    • @JustinAEgan
      @JustinAEgan 6 років тому

      This late in the model year, you really need to carefully check out any left-over GT350's going for "factory list price". Just because the car is "technically" new doesn't mean it's "new" (meaning it could have been used as a demo - drove hard ... put away wet, by dealer, salesmen, mechanics, 'prep crew' or pulled back when some guy couldn't swing the payments)!
      New, in dealership talk, only means it was never registered...doesn't mean it was never driven or that it wasn't damaged/repaired by the dealer ship...'''been a lot of reports of dealers installing GT350 spec parts incorrectly too, like the Shelby front air dam" - accidents happen and if they can get you to pay full price, even without markup, then they come out ahead. 'just saying..! your money, your choice.

    Not knocking dudes car at all because they are right you can change the gears and do all that, Most people eventually go bigger on Wheels eventually anyway even the PP cars.. I want that 305 on the Back and 275 up front myself.. But my 275 to 255 set up nice too, very nice, the car handles like it's on rails to me.. Seriously Ford Nailed it with these GT's.. Once they dropped the Coyote's in and fixed the rear axle's in these cars they Nailed it..

    Does your base 16 GT have the 3.31 gear or a 3.55? A 3.55 is a great gear for the Mustang. Always has been. I had a 2004 Mach 1 with 3.55's and it was right on the money. A lot more involved now doing a gear swap since they went away from the solid rear axel. Swapping gears used to be a snap but now with an independent rear its not as easy as it used to be. That translates into a much more expensive mod. Either way great vid fellas and enjoy your rides. 👍

    • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 4 роки тому

      I had a fbo mach with stock gears and while it wasnt bad 355 def isnt optimal for drag racing in those cars. Acceleration with 430-456 is night and day on a mach turns them into a stockish terminator beating machine. Also 355 in that car is way different than 355 in these cars the mt82 is geared mucy shorter than the old tr3650 in the mach. Trans gearing has ALOT to do with it. 373 on these is similar to 456 on the mach....355 is like 430 on it...355 on the mach would be like 273s on the coyote (even though they arent available with 273) so comparing 355 on the 5 speed to 355 with these mt82s is a completely different animal. The high winding dohc fords like the mach, the older na cobras and the coyote all nerd aggrrssive gearing to get max acceleration and performance in general so that is why ford themselves went in 2011 to the aggressively geared mt82. You may like 355 on the mach that is fine but its far from optimal acceleration wise

    Great video bro. I drive a 2015 V6 with the Roush CAI, Flowmaster Outlaw Axle-backs, and the MPT 93PR-X tune.... part of me still wishes I would have gotten a 5.0. My wallet just couldn't take that payment at the time. It could now but I almost have this one paid off and with me starting to mod it over the past 6 months.... I have fallen for my car all over again. V6 or V8.... a Mustang is a Mustang. Hearing you talk about the differences in the cars with an open mind was great. I did laugh extremely hard when you talked about the hood blinker. Great video though man.

They may be faster but they ruined the sexist Mustang they have made since the 60's. And I love the 2012's, that look too.. When they came out with 1st gen coyote.. They looked sexy too.. The S197's I think..

      snomonster3 he said that gas mileage was slightly less, he said he gets about 22hwy and I get about 25-26hwy

      When you drive 3 hours a day the difference between 22 and 26mpg can be a good chunk of cash. The only thing I don't want in the performance pack is the quicker gears. Coming from a foxbody, both of these are still going to be improvements but I still want to know.

      I do, but I compete in a racing class where changing the width of the wheels isn't legal, changing spring rates isn't legal, and camber modifications are limited to factory allowed slotting of the strut hole.

    (The gearing alone is worth the 3K, without the Wheels, Brakes, or the strut tower in my opinion..) I know a few PPL who thought they were going to do a gear swap in their Driveways who regrated it too.. That's a skill your not gonna just watch a Video and get that right.. You need to be a wrencher For Real.. If you are good..
    I can't tell you how many times those 373's Reel'ed other cars in right away, or they never even had a chance even.. I beat BMW's the Turbo Straight 6 and a lot of other 400 wheel cars light to light. With a decent, 1,2,3 it's over.. Obviously they make cars faster than this, There are dodges and Camaro's making very Big power so it's what you like or are into.. I really thought I was gonna go SS, But the look of the GT won me over.. And I was never going to find a 1 Garage Kept owner barely driven Muscle Car ever again like this, with 9K Miles on it with the PP.. Not ever again.. And the price was Really right. She will be SC'ed in a few years...

  • @ronsmith4325

    I bought a 2017 GT in Grabber Blue a couple of months back as dealers were clearing out the rest of their 2017's in prep for the incoming '18s.. I had visited a few dealers and came across one that had what I was looking for on the lot... 5.0, Grabber Blue, 6 Speed, Cloth Recaro Seats, black accent package... only thing missing was the PP option. I hummed and hawed about it not having the PP and the dealer told me it was unlikely that I could place an order for one considering it was mid-June (in reality, I believe that they just wanted me to buy the one they had on the lot, so I played this to my advantage) ... When I say this, keep in mind that I live in Canada... Sticker was 42 and change, got them down to 37500 and managed to get a few free synthetic oil changes out of them.
    I figure with how deep the aftermarket is for these things, I won't have any trouble getting my car to exceed what the performance pack is capable of. Ford Racing themselves makes a great suspension upgrade kit which is a step or two above what is given in the PP's, but still retains street ride quality. I only really plan on doing track days, weekend autocross events, and test and tune nights at the strip every so often.
    Now if I were to do this all over again and have an order put in for a car exactly the way I wanted.... I'd definitely pick the PP as it would keep the modding bug at bay for a little longer. Right now I'm kinda chomping at the bit, but I still love what I got.

Probably not, but you can sometimes find some good cars that aren’t beaten the shit out of

  • @fernandizo

    I dont think its worth it. The 3.73 gear ratio is good for 1/4 mile racing not high way racing. The key to gearing is being in the sweet spot. Its also about where your driving the car. I swapped in 285/305s to my base model GT and lowered it on eibach progressive sportline springs. Roush intake, ford xpipe, exhaust system and tune is pushing that 435 to 465hp. Also strut tower brace for about 175$. the entire package cost me about 3k$. I think those mods are way better than the PP ugrades. The car handles like a z06, with the suspension, power, and tire upgrades. If youd rather have the out of the box upgrades go for the PP. If youd rather increment your upgrades to the issues you find while driving get the base and upgrade as you see the need. That works the best! Personally I like seeing cars that evolved thru its ownership than out of the factory cars.
