Wonderful, the gold standard explanation. So relieved to understand the gamut of iPhone image formats: ProRAW, HEIC, JPEG, and when each might be the best choice.
I'm finding that the onboard Photos editor treats DNG and HEIC with the same latitude. And Lr Mobile isn't doing much better. In order to get RAW flexibility, you have to export to desktop versions of Adobe-and only one image at a time, because bulk AirDrop converts to JPEG-and it seems you have to revert the file to original state, or the export assumes you want a JPEG with adjustments. That's AirDrop. I don't know the rules yet for USB migration.
TRUTH !!! Great intel for those learning. Best solution if your defaulting - push off your RAW files ( that you want for Pro work only) to a device like Gnarbox & delete them so your IP 12 Pro Max retains storage. Also get the 512 gig. It’ll fill up fast.
I have been trying out ProRaw. What I have done is after I have edited the photo to my satisfaction, I export/copy as JPG and then delete the ProRaw file. That way I have the flexibility, without the storage overheads. I only use ProRaw where it is photo I will likely want to edit later
Hi, I am about to buy a 15 Pro Max but I do not know how much will the ProRAW 48 MP affect the storage. I would like to use HEIC as standard but switch to ProRAW for more scenery photos. Is 256GB model enough fof it or should I go for 512GB? I would download the DNG files after I get to my Mac to NAS.
Having shot photos in ProRAW on my iPhone 12 Pro, uploading the .DNG image to, say Photo Shop, will only degrade the image. What comes out of the iPhone 12 Pro is perfect. Any tweaks to be done should be done in the iPhone's editing software, then saved. If a .jpg is needed, due to it's lower file size can be done from the .DNG itself.
Exactly same experience! iPhone editing software gives you a better (almost perfect in most cases) starting file and works fast for needed changes just from phone native photos app. It is nonsense editing hassle for same file in Lightroom (at least in December 2020). Example for Lightroom hassle is here, and keep in mind the girl who edits is super skilled 😜: ua-cam.com/video/9alkb6h1tUI/v-deo.html
I came around to this workflow also - wonderful how much you can do in the Photos app, and then maybe Snapseed or another app as needed. Then upload and away we go.
simple and straight forward. My question is, will the photos be over exposed or read incorrectly if they are taken in ProRaw and then uploaded to Final Cut Pro. In my experience, photos with HDR on, are over exposed in Final Cut and Premier pro and destroy the quality of the image and video, not sure if the same applies to ProRaw
wouldn't proraw captures super crappy pics due to the lack of stacking and computational processes? the sensor is tiny, way smaller than even m43, images must be super noisy?
Excellent video! One of the best ever, thank you! If you choose raw shooting with a 3rd. part app, let's say Reeflex ProCamera, you're still shooting in Proraw or it'll be a true raw file?
Before I upgrade, does anyone know if the 48mp raw takes up cloud storage and when it does, does it stop working does the quality degrade? What if your cloud storage is already full will the 48mp raw photo still work?
How different are the results between photos captured in ProRAW vs Adobe Lightroom Camera in DNG mode? I was considering the 12 Pro mainly because of ProRAW but I think that any other camera app that can shoot DNG should be able to provide me the same results and headroom for editing, minus the computational photography that is incorporated in a ProRAW file. I could be wrong though. Cheers.
Its been on the Google Pixel for 2 years already, Comparison of iPhone 12 Pro and Pixel 4a Computational RAW's (what Apple calls ProRaw) here: ua-cam.com/video/rjitvbnDkoI/v-deo.html Basically iPhone wins on colour noise, Pixel wins for night mode RAW's. Pixel price point at a third of the cost of a iPhone means its a great bang for buck option

I haven’t messed around with ProRaw yet. This was a super helpful video. Thanks!
Very well explained. Well I’d go as far as to say the BEST. Thank you
Great video, really enjoyed watching and very well explained 😊
Greta explanation and video, thank you sir!
Thanks for the video it really helped a lot!
Keep up the great work
Easton's info and ease of explanation is off the chain.
Also you lit yourself with a garage light?
I do wish they had this with the Google Pixel

I completely agree with your thought. Thumb up!
my iphone 12 pro max shut down after turning on pro raw still hasn't turned on
Excellent explanation, thank you.
I guess if you’re living in the jungle, without a way to download and save your images in Pro Raw, it’s a good idea.
Thanks for this explanation 👍

How do you import ProRAW photos into windows PC? Using cable?
Very well explained.. 👍👍👍

How do you get Pro Raw images from you iPhone into Lightroom Classic?????
From a technical standpoint, is it possible to fuse LivePhoto with ProRAW?
No, Live Photo is a speciality of Video based encoders, like HEIF or AVIF.
@@rumo893 Thanks, mate! 💛
Nice video! Which free apps are good for editing Pro-Raw photos on the iPhone directly, or on a Macbook Pro?
You should be able to edit Pro-Raw photos directly in the Camera app! If the camera supports shooting ProRaw it'll support editing as well.
Excellent!

I’m thinking the same. Did you ever figure out the difference?
This video:
Computational photography
🤣43k photos = to watch all of these only for a minute each = long beards
Can iphone 13 use proraw?
Only the Pro models unfortunately
