Red Flowers are an excellent and subtle observation. There used to be a lot of theorizing that the big tree the beechcraft was perched on also had some significance to the island. It's too bad the writers never kept the plant motifs up later. 6:35 - There's the jamming Ben's driving and then the natural properties of the island like the flashes and the way people enter into the snow globe. Given Ben knew about the wheel under the orchid and the smokey toilet plunger under his house in Dharmaville he's very likely deliberately lying about the Swan to John. He's perhaps the only one who connected the knowledgebase of the Egyptians+others with the Dharma station work. That Naomi quote is also probably a planned/deliberate lie given the scene in the Economist with Abaddon.
I think Dave was a hallucination since the MiB could only take the form of dead people since their light was gone from their bodies. Dave never existed and was Harley’s imaginary friend. I think Hurley started thinking about Dave again because he saw Dave in the mental institution where he didn’t realize it, but Libby was also there.
Now that I have rewatched the show and so many UA-cam videos on Lost, I now agree with you that Dave was the MiB. What changed my mind was the red flowers and Dave at the hospital wanted Hurley to eat...but Dave on the island didn't try and tell Hurley to eat more food and being overweight was ok, this Dave tired to trick Hurley to jump off the cliff to wake up to get off the island. Had Hurley jumped, another candidate would have been eliminated.
It doesn't make much sense, just a little maybe. Hurley's memories weren't analyzed by the black smoke, no is Dave's corpse on the island. It's just Hurley's subconsciousor or so it seems most likely
That’s so interesting how the red flowers pop up in scenes involving the smoke monster. I remember them well from the scene with Eko and Yemi, but never realized they appear in other episodes. So good!
Is it established show canon that the Man In Black needs a dead body in order to take that person's form? If so, then Dave can't be the MiB because Hurley saw him before reaching the island. Anything else (Hurley was visited by the ghost of someone who died on the island for instance) would be pure speculation with no show support.
@@kuhpunkt that's right! Interesting. So I guess the need to bring Locke's body back was just part of the con that Locke had been revived, NOT as a necessity. Very interesting.
I have also considered that it was accepted that MIB needed a body, otherwise the whole complicated MIB scam falls apart if he could just become anyone in the whole world, why choose dead people on the island then?
Pretty sure Dave is the ghost of David, Libby's dead husband. The times we see Dave are only when Libby is nearby. Kind of like he's haunting his wife and trying to drive Hurley away from her every time we see him.
That's why it's not confirmed and just a theory that's tossed out. We don't know. I just find it intriguing that the showrunners said we might've seen the monster in season 2 and not realized it and whether or not they meant Dave. Kate's horse and Dave seem like likely candidates in this scenario, but neither of them were scanned for their memories. Unless we count the season 1 finale when the monster approached Jack, Kate, Hurley and Locke.
I love that you pointed out the red flowers. They're such a great detail, and I'm so glad Jack Bender got to explain them in the DVD commentary. I think it's worth pointing out that these flowers are also present at the Heart of the Island - that to me confirms their connection to the Smoke Monster (even if I'm not fully convinced he's the one appearing as Dave in this episode).
Thanks. Yeah, these flowers simply just pop up on very peculiar locations. The MIB-Dave is still up for speculation, but that's just the fun of it all.
It intrigues me the idea that the on Island Dave could be the Man in Black. Now even more when listening to your video and the red flower thing. But I always think about when Hurley asks Libby if he had a shoe (Dave's one) in the hand while previously talking at the beach with her, and than she replies she didn't see any shoe. I would like to believe the theory about the Man in Black, but this to me it's a clue that even the on Island Dave was imaginary. (However I think it's totally possible that even if the original Dave was only a construction of Hurley's mind, the Man in Black could have recreated the figure of Dave, basing on Hurley's memories of Dave. Much like he did with Richard when he took Isabella's form).
Huge fan of your videos! I've watched them all numerous times since Lost is my favourite show and your map is the best I've ever seen. Will you be sharing an updated version of your satellite map? I have version 2 saved on my iPad and love looking at it while I rewatch the show.
Thank you very much! Yeah, version 3 will be shared when I am done with the series. Version 2 is pretty good though, and still very close to the one I am using now in the video series.
Great observation about the red flowers!
Thanks! :)

never noticed the parachute was used for a roof, great catch there!

Yes oh man this is perfect.
Thanks! :)

It is not. He appeared as Isabella for example. Her body was nowhere near the island.

What @kuhpunkt said, but I'd like to preface that in the end it's the viewer's interpretation when it comes to Dave on the Island :)
@@kuhpunkt I have always considered Isabella not to be MIB but his confused mind, and MIB using that

Did you make the island map yourself, or is it based on something else? Just curious. 😊
I made the map myeself :)
Dave could also just have been Dave, the ghost of a person who tries to mess with Hurley and lead him astray.
Absolutely. I want to make clear that no opinion is wrong here. Loads of great discussion topics

How can it be black smoke if Hurley's memories weren't analyzed and Dave's body isn't there either?🤷♂

I'd never noticed the plant/flower! Good observation.
Definitely the man in black
