I'm a 50 year old child-free woman and I don't regret it at all. My time is my own and I use it to explore my many hobbies and interests, it's the perfect life for me.

My dad didn't want kids and had them anyway. He was not a father. He was just some guy I lived with growing up. I never wanted kids and didn't have them. I don't regret it one bit. Don't believe that "you'll change your mind when you have them" crap. I'm sure it happens, but it's rare.

@@mattmaniac1 He was a lousy father and I was mad at him for a while. I was mad at my mom for marrying someone she knew didn't want a family, too. Now that I'm older though and have plenty of mistakes under my belt, I understand them and I'm not mad anymore.
I try not to dwell in the past, but if I do I have to remind myself it's done. We can't go back so deal with it and go on with your life.

We need to normalise this conversation about not wanting kids . Specially for a woman . Every time in my life I expressed that out loud I was judged and excluded by other woman . Suddenly you are labelled weird and heartless and selfish 🙄
I mean it is selfish in a way. But what's wrong with that? Intent behind having kids is also selfish at times. Selfish is just what we've become. In one way or another. It is what it is.
Let's be honest - whose decision to HAVE children is truly selfless..?? I get the impression that most people deciding to have children do so without too much reflection, most have put less thought into the topic than the childfree people I know...

I'm 45yo, I've had a vasectomy, I couldn't be happier. Never wanted kids, I've known since I was a kid myself, and never looked back. I couldn't be happier with the life I have.

Some people just don’t want to have kids and that’s perfectly ok. What’s worse, is women who judge other women for not having children at all . Men don’t get judged too harshly as women do. At the end of the day, it’s no one’s damn business and there is some people who have kids and probably shouldn’t have reproduced .

Glad, I found this. Now I can share this video to all those who pester me to have kids. An Indian not wanting to have kids? You wouldn't even imagine the scrutiny you would through from family, friends and everyone around. My theory is: you should only have kids if you really to be a parent, not because of the societal pressure.

I’m a single mother to a 18 year old. He’s my child and I will always love him but if I could do it all over I would’ve been childless. So much bad in the world that I live scared for his safety daily. It’s extremely stressful. It’s many people out there who feel this way but they would NEVER say it out loud.

Same here. I turned 40 in March and I still don't have, or want kids. Some of my family members think I'm crazy, but I don't care. I have the most stress-free happy life. Kids are wonderful, but it's not for me. I'm happy being the cool uncle.

Now I don’t feel so bad. I’m 34 and have been married for almost 3 years and me and my wife don’t want kids and when we tell family that they act like we’re crazy.
I enjoy going to bed when I want, waking up when I want and going out and doing whatever I want when I want to do it. I enjoy my freedom. I don’t want to be tied down with kids and the responsibilities that come with it.

To answer your questions, no and no. I just turned 34 myself and I don't want kids either.
If neither partner wants kids, you're fine. There's no inherent obligation to have children and, honestly, not everyone would be a good parent. Even if you would be a good parent, there's no need to have kids if you don't want them.
However, if you would be a good parent and want kids, please have them - the world could use a larger percentage of good parents.
A lot of childless people don’t get to wake up when they want and go out and do whatever they want when they want because they have jobs.
I have two girls and they have brought me more joy than I would have thought possible....but I also would have been completely fine and enjoyed life without having kids. The freedom would be amazing.

He’s so right. And people need to be honest about this because if you don’t wanna be a parent then you shouldn’t have a kid. So many people who don’t wanna be parents have kids because of social pressure and norms. And then you just ruin a persons life they feel your resentment they know you’re not really a parent and it affects them for the rest of their life. It’s a huge responsibility. You can do so much damage.

But there's also super parents. Like my mom is 51 right now and my sister is only thirteen and she is all about her swimming practice and they go jogging together and they do all this stuff all the time and she would speak like that when I was a kid and when my brother was a kid she's always been into that kind of stuff

I took myself out of the gene pool a long time ago. My wife and I don't want kids, well because we don't like them and we know we'd be terrible parents. It doesn't work with our lifestyle choices. To be honest, does the world NEED more people?

I mean... There is so many nice people who are actually bad parents out there. So many got married and felt forced to have kids. In the end, the child knows it, at least the kid feels that he/she wasn't desired and is seen as a burden even a baby by the two most important figures of his/her life. Really damaging for the child. As a teacher, i'm witnessing it very frequently and it's very sad. It's good for them. It's really wise and thoughtful. In my opinion, it's the best act of compassion and respect (aka love) they can give to their unborn children.
Raising a little human being might be the hardest work on this planet, challenging both physically and psychologically. Not everyone is able to face it and there is no shame to feel.

I'm not that cynical. I believe that _they_ usually believe that it's the best thing that happened to them and could be for you too, but I don't think that they have life as figured out as they think. No other person will ever persuade me to have kids. My reasons for not wanting them are mostly selfless and I think that that makes them good reasons

Everything Seth said is exactly how my wife and I feel about kids. If we really did want children in our lives adoption would be the best option.
Adoption can be pretty pricey though so you generally have to be upper-middle class to really think about that. A single adoption can cost $20 000+.
Put it like this having kids doesn't mean happiness thats the truth its like saying having money gives you happiness 😌 .
There are enough kids in the world. We are so overpopulated. Yet ppl have such an ego driven need to have a child that is biologically theirs. And so many people are having fertility treatment to have babies. I'm not judging anyone that has done it everyone has their own journey to live but It is a little crazy how big of an industry making babies is when you look at the state of the world. We are already at that tipping point that we can't sustain our level of consumption and greed without Irreversible damage to the planet. And yet even now in the middle of a pandemic there has been a substantial increase in ppl seeking IVF. Like wtf? You would think if anything it would deacrease. But stupid ppl are out there going 'im bored during quarantine...hey I know..let's bring a baby into it that will be fun' 😞
