A circuit race would be more ideal for these cars since they are designed exactly for that. Great video nonetheless. The gearing here was not ideal for drag racing in defense of the GR Corolla Morizo. A Circuit Edition shines in a straight line against the Type R. The Type R, however, was not designed for going in a straight line.
Toyota needs help creating a true performance vehicle. They can't seem to get at least one right . The Lfa was a flop . The supra is a collab . LC500 was ok but not wowing its fans . They just have a good reputation for not breaking.

Im curious to know what the "normal" 911 with similar HP as the "normal" corvette does in this race as its a car I can fit in and am considering for spring 2024.. Lots of used ones are popping up.
So I used to race a CRX SiR, I enjoyed this but would like to see how the gearbox is myself as the shifts were a little slow imo…. Also you can break later making sure to set the cars up for the turns. But still entertaining.
This does it folks. The type r beats out a unicorn. We can put an end to grc vs type r debate since civic beat 200 production model only ultra rare(due to Toyota wants it that wat) Morizo with more horsepower and less weight than core/circuit models and cup2 tires.
This is the morizo too with the extra torque and better tires, I figured the core base model would loose to a type r but not the morizo! Honda always takes it to Toyota since the beginning!
I think the reason the Toyota, and most other cars in the segment, have launch RPMs so low is that they don't want a ton of warranty transmission and clutch claims in the first year of ownership. Aftermarket tunes can rectify your problem for a small cost.
Now have them race it against a 2005 WRX STI or Lance Evo. Kinda sad that a 2005 Subaru or Mitsubishi is still faster. And don't bring up reliability because these new Honda's are not reliable like the ones from the past.

@@JG-mg3if It depends on tires if you're referring to wet track situations. Since the civic is pull during the straights, I would say that the gr is ahead at the line but the civic pulls ahead after the u-turn.
alright credit were it is due, this was a very entertaining video. great work edmunds team. please do more affordable cars. Audi RS3 vs Lexus IS500 u drag?
The RS3 and the IS500 cost quite a lot more than the cars in this video
@@LafemmebearMusic not really that much more.
Rs3 base is 61k, so about 16k more than a civic type r.
Thanks for the real honest review. I wonder how much faster and rigid the Morizo edition is compared to the Circuit Edition. Also worth mentioning the GR Corolla with or without LSD's shares the exact same interior as a 2019 Corolla Ascent Sport, that fetches for AU$20,000.
Way back in 2003 my stock engine 2.0 liter 2002 WRX ran a 14.3 1/4 mile times with larger 17 inch wheels and crappy no name tires. Yes it was a prepped surface but like I said crappy tires that were not even close to the stickiness of Pilot Sports. How are these cars with 70 more horsepower running the same times?
Love both cars. Can’t go
Wrong with either
So true, if I were forced to choose, it would have to be the civic only because of its better looks. I guess. 🤷
Love both cars I’d get both if I could.. but if I could only choose one it would be The Type R in red
Was there ever a doubt though... the fwd king is the king for a reason
The LFA was a flop? They sold all of them and now they’re going for over $1 million.
What the fuck are you talking about? Toyota LED the codeveloped projects of GR86 and GR Supra. LC500 is a luxury car. The LFA was a legend.
And even with the LFA they had help from Yamaha lol
Toyota is the second-largest stakeholder in the Yamaha, holding about 3.8% of the company's shares.@@drivescene6747
@@jamesbarbato2192 It costed Toyota over $700 to build each LFA and they sold them at a $300-350K loss each. How is that not a loss to Toyota??? They don't make any profit from private sales lol.
Another great one keep them coming
These are the videos we need, no silly mismatches that makes no sense to compare
Awesome! Now bring out the FK8 and do it again please!
FK8 is ugly AF nobody cares about that!
Had the FK8 and now FL5, it's just a better car...it's denial to think it's not
@@van_der_lindeDA really a matter of opinion. Styling is subjective. Performance figures are not.
@vasekvi no the FL5 is better in every aspect....I was owning the fk8 and lying to myself until I got thr FL5....
@@van_der_lindeDA every aspect except an opinion on styling and performance which has already been proven
Maybe you could turn on the Morizo's rev matching next time. It would've helped. I'm guessing you didn't even know it had a rev-matching abilities since you made no mention of it.
KONA N would kill that Corolla Chorizo. Would still lose to the CTR, tho.
Love the format of these videos.
I think my tuned M140i would destroy both of these by 2 seconds to the U turn, then wobble around it so badly both cars would overtake me lol 🙂
Probably. 😅
*_Vtec kicked in 🥹_*
Just came across you guys...would love a U drive between Honda FIT RS vs Suzuki Swift Sport. Whole race would take a minute 😅
Looked like the civic R took 7 seconds to 100kmph , what elevation is this filmed at ?
Dragy stat's would good it gives G forces 0 to 60 ,1/4 mile and elevation.
That Honda is such a weapon , Honda power undeniable.
These drags are WAY better than just straight lines lol
Not sure if possible, but can't one switch out of AWD after launch? Dynos show a 10 to 15 HP drop from going AWD on the GR.
Not possible
Is there a link to the leaderboard?
Great race! Still cant believe how high the MSRP is for two essentially fwd cars and that’s before stealership markup. You really need to be a crazy Honda/Toyota fanboy to justify that purchase
Thats limited run edition GR Corolla to when thats the standard Type R you can find at any dealer.
The Corolla did win off the line and that's were the advantage stops for AWD. The Honda Civic will be the next James bond car!
These are the BEST!!
You should put in a tesla model 3 LR in this mix because of the price being right in there.,
Or if you want, the SR version that has little under 300hp
I want to see a 911 Carerra S against a C8 corvette. or a GTS against the C8.. Not the Z06 it no question would win huge..
Type R is the best
This does it folks. The type r beats out a unicorn. We can put an end to grc vs type r debate since civic beat 200 production model only ultra rare(due to Toyota wants it that wat) Morizo with more horsepower and less weight than core/circuit models and cup2 tires.
I'd love to see those stacked up against my NA Acura TL SHAWD.
TL is too heavy lol. A 50 k roll maybe.
@AcuraPerformance that's what I'm saying. It'd be a really cool mashup.
The Type R sold for sticker price? That is not what we have been hearing, can they confirm?
You should do not only a driver switch but also a lane switch. So a total of 4 races for the most amount of data and fairness.
Is this allistar from dangerville youtube channel?
This is the morizo too with the extra torque and better tires, I figured the core base model would loose to a type r but not the morizo! Honda always takes it to Toyota since the beginning!
I think the reason the Toyota, and most other cars in the segment, have launch RPMs so low is that they don't want a ton of warranty transmission and clutch claims in the first year of ownership. Aftermarket tunes can rectify your problem for a small cost.
Have you done a U-Drag with a Hyundai Kona N?
Can you do 2023 Genesis G70 3.3 RWD vs the 2023 Lexus IS350 RWD?
Honda/Acura are hard to beat…proud owner of the Acura MDX
civic wins as expected
Now have them race it against a 2005 WRX STI or Lance Evo. Kinda sad that a 2005 Subaru or Mitsubishi is still faster. And don't bring up reliability because these new Honda's are not reliable like the ones from the past.
@@carlospacheco8640 go away
@@carlospacheco8640 hondas can go 300k miles without breaking a sweat, subarus break in the first 10 miles, no offense to subaru, i wont say that for the older ones, some newer ones werent that good
@@chrism869 Again. Old Hondas!!!! I had many 90s ones. Yes 300k all day. Not these new ones. Why don't you actually go look at the last 10yrs of Honda's reliability. Once they went Turbo their reliability went down the drain even more. I would never buy a Subaru either because I know all about the head gasket issues. We are talking SPEED here.
@@AbuBawa-sw1ut We found the "Honda is faster than everything" guy :) I have owned many Honda's bud. Not a hater. I just like facts.
I don’t understand why they’re both saying they want to generate “wheel spin” on the takeoff. That’s the opposite of what u wanna do…
Wheel spin gives the engine a momentum boost that ends up making you faster. That's why 0 to 60 times are typically faster than 5 to 60 times for the same car.
Best way to launch the GR is off the rev limiter, in 60:40, with expert mode on. I have a Circuit Edition and if you're looking for absolute best results no matter how harsh on the car, that's the way to do it.
How about a match between new 2024 mustang gt vs 2023 mustang gt?
Another great video! Would like to have seen the corolla do a full rev limiter clutch dump.
this kinda reminds me of mitsubishi vs subaru of years gone. i like it
