    Removing parts using low-melt solder is so satisfying, was able to remove some big heat sinks on a PVM board almost instantly

    I got a vita for very cheap, the oled version. It had a broken charge port, worn battery, bad shoulderbuttons and sticks, so i replaced every broken component, i took a broken 3ds, i took the dpad contacts out of it, cutted it to seperate buttons, and soldered them in to replace the shoulder button mechanism, now, instead of being all mushy, they are nice and clicky, i took out the og charge port and i installed a micro usb port in place where the accessories port was. At the local fleamarket, there was a samsung battery of 3300mAh, a black removeable one, new in the plastic, never used, it comes in a plastic box for safe keeping, so, i soldered wires straight onto the battery terminals for testing, i wanted to replace the samsung BMS board with that of the Vita, but the vita happily works with the samsung bms, so i just soldered it in, had to remove some plastic from the inside to make it fit, but man, the end result is so nice! I can prop the vita up using a phone stand, use a ps4 controller, and play while charging! I love the vita, and everybody is amazed on what i did to this console! I like the vita. I found out later that the battery comes out of a J7, which is nice to know, if my battery wears out, i can just replace it in a matter of minutes! My model was also the 3G model, but i removed everything 3G related, all the antennas, the connector on the mobo and the sim card reader all went byebye! i use a 3g disable plugin to make it think it is just a wifi model. Otherwise my bat wouldn't fit in it. Nice sacrifice imo to gain 33 percent more batterylife!

    The USBC idea is great but the PCB could be much improved. Dunno why the PCB doesn't wire internally GND to the holes you solder to lock in the thing in place. That'd save you soldering a wire. Also, if instead of a hole you put the other D pad there and put a via the wiring would be easier and neater. Why a wire going thru the PCB if the PCB can already route that! You could have d+, d- and 5v together on the same side. Maybe since they're together even put a flex cable you solder there and fold it to the other side of the PCB and lock it in. Just some ideas.

    I came here to comment how metal it is to use a lighter to prop up a pcb while soldering @ 400.
    One wrong step and BOOM

    How longer does the battery last? Is it worth it?

    • @Avke92
      @Avke92 13 днів тому +1

      Vita got a 2000mah battery and the note 9 got a 4000mah so it should last about twice, the price for just the battery is about 20 USD. I believe there are other high cap. batterys made for the vita that´s plug and play.

      To be fair, I blanked that he's doing temps in Farrenheit. Should be safe around that range, but still getting close.

    you can also solder in a usb port and use usb sticks on 3g vita's for storage, I have a very small profile size one, it is a 256gb usb 3.0 sandisk thumb drive inside of mine.

      There are micro sd kits for that too, including a ribbon and second port in the sim housing, making it easily removable. They should be able to read up to 2tb in theory.

      This was one of my first mods, absolutely kills the battery! (Can't turn it off) :) but it is really cool that it works.
      Better as an external port that you can mount USB drives to.

    That is not a kink electricians call that an asshole. Caused by pulling the wire through a passage while there is a loop on the start side.
