Thanks for the video, Chuck! I'm looking to rent one of these. Good advice about making sure the blades are sharp. A lot of places don't care to make sure they maintain their equipment as they rent it out.

Main thing is just ask if the cutters are in good shape. If they are worn it make it brutal. Fresh ones will eat 10 stumps up in no time.

I gave up on the rental companies around here. They always have bad cutter teeth. Found a guy that grinds stumps for cheaper than I can rent.

Yeah with dull cutters, you will just work yourself to death and not get much done in your rental time.

Save yourself the time, money and hire a stump grinding company, better equipment and you will be glad you did.

Quite a difference between hiring a company and renting a grinder. Most charge per stump and it is quite expensive. The first time I rented one I got it for the weekend (one free day) and wore my self out getting 39 stumps for $230 + some gas. Around here a company would have charged that to do 2. So if you are a whimp and have lots of money, I'm sure you'd be better off.

@@rpmchuck-nitrouschronicles Exacting my point. I’ve been there done that. Spent a couple days running a low powered rental unit. I guess you have to ask yourself what’s your time worth. If actually you get a couple estimate’s you would be surprised there are a lot of people doing stump grinding. When my customers have multiple stumps many of us charge by the hour. My RG45 can knock out 39 stumps in 2 to 3 hours depending on size. At 200.00 an hour again what’s your time worth.

These are not easy to run , smaller cuts and maintain blade speed is the key

Is it very loud? How long does it take for a medium stump? Thanks

Yeah pretty loud for most people. Not a bad idea to use some hearing protection. Just a 12" stump sawed a few inches from the ground, can be taken below grade in less than 10 minutes with sharp cutters.
