I am moving to Cleveland Ohio to work at the Cleveland Clinic in the summer. Very interested in living in the downtown area. I can't wait for your video talking about areas of downtown to live.
One thing to keep in mind (coming from a Clevelander) is that Cleveland is one of the most red-lined cities in the country. What I mean is that you will literally see sights such as driving down a street in a very wealthy and affluent neighborhood, and once you cross one single red light, you are in one of the worst areas in Cleveland. This is less so on the west side than the east side. The lines are a little more blurred on the west side. But on the east side, this poster mentions Little Italy. What you will see in this area is exactly what I said earlier. One red light, everything changes. It's cool as long as you're willing to not stray too far from home. On the west side you're a little better, but the "hood" in the whole city is not just one area, it is spread throughout the entire city in pockets. Before you move here, do your research. Downtown itself is not that bad but it has been getting worse. Avoid these areas: anywhere just outside of downtown (especially to the east), Clark Ave, Denison Ave, W 25th, Warner, St Clair, E 55th, Hough, etc.
@scooterp4113 a lot of that depends on your budget and what you'd like to be close to. In general and for people that aren't rich per se, I'd recommend neighborhoods like Old Brooklyn. If you're looking to rent or to move past the city line, Lakewood or Parma aren't bad. If you have more money, you can start looking into East side suburbs (this is where the wealthy congregate, but also where the red lining I mentioned is a lot more pronounced) like Shaker Heights. Bedford isn't terrible either, and nor is Maple Heights
I’d say Tremont is the best. I lived there for 3 years and loved it. It is a little pricey but the bars, parks, restaurants and stores are great. Also you’re right next to the Steelyard, downtown and Ohio City.
I grew up in Shaker Heights. Paul Newman grew up there. Lived in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Square and now Maple Heights. For a time I lived with a teacher and her family in Chagrin Falls. My father and uncle were born here but mom was born and raised in PA and my brother was born there. He lives out of state but I just can't be anywhere but Cleveland.

Nice job covering Cleveland's best neighborhoods. However, as you mention, price is a big factor. I grew up in West Park. Kamm's Corners is a fun place, especially for the Irish crowd. It's also more affordable. Now if they would only renovate the beautiful Variety Theater!
@@williamanthony9090 Part of the reason for the safe feeling around Kamm's is because of the past city requirement that first-responders live in the city. At one time we has three police officers and their families living on our street in Kamm's. Even though most are gone, there's still a carry-over effect. Not to say Kamm's is a safety paradise. Crime is slowly infiltrating from the east and lower west side. I would agree. Cleveland Neighborhoods have high crime. A lot of people relocating here end up choosing the suburbs over living in Cleveland itself, mainly for schools and safety.
Most Lakewood homes are indeed older, but they all have character and amenities that are not found in many other suburbs. They were built to last. My home is probably worth about $250k, but I pay over $600k in insurance for replacement value. I question my insurance agent repeatedly if they would really pay more than the house is worth and he has always said "yes".
This is exactly what I was looking for. Moving to Cleveland in a few months and was on the fence between Tremont and Ohio City. Thanks for this! Tremont wins😊
It really depends on your investing goals. Around University circle probably offers the highest cash flow and potential upside because its the most affordable are on the list. Ohio City and Tremont and the most expensive but you're also in one of Cleveland's most sought after neighborhoods. Detroit Shoreway is right in the "middle" of the list. Still somewhat affordable but you have development happening around you.
I moved to the Cleveland area with some trepidation, knowing about the violence issues it has. Indeed, I had one brush with gang terror when I got lost in the wrong area (Clark Fulton). I lived in the suburb of Westlake for two years and in Lakewood along Warren for two years. The Rush Hour commute from Westlake to the city was about 35 minutes. From Lakewood, 20 minutes, tops. Ohio City is where people go to party. But, in the actual city of Cleveland, the poverty, desperation, and the gangs are always close by. Cleveland is such a mixed bag. It is wonderful for arts and food. But there are downsides. Things you don’t think about. “Cleveland is such a mixed bag”. I’m sure this is true for most major cities but definitely true here. Cleveland isn’t very big so everything is really close, both good and bad. Thanks for your comment, always good to hear from people who moved here (:
Detroit-Shoreway would be my pick for best neighborhood in the city in my opinion. I was walking around the Gordon Square area and I was really surprised by how nice it was! There's some beautiful new developments close to the lake and the ability to walk to Edgewater Park and get to the Lakefront Trail so easily is great! The problem is that it's a bit expensive these days lol Also, I think the Edgewater neighborhood is also a really great and relatively safe neighborhood, it just isn't really that "trendy" anymore for some reason.

Well CSU is just east of downtown. I would say apartment downtown, right on or near the campus, Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Lakewood, University Circle
Euclid isn't horrible. Been living in it for 5 years. Granted I'm right on the border of Willowick and Willoughby but my apartment is right on Erie and it's a killer view
And downtown Cleveland is expanding westward to accommodate that 30,000+ downtown Cleveland population projection with a few more towers plan to join Sherwin Williams new global headquarters
Im considering moving to Cleveland next year after i graduate. Ill be working in cybersecurity...Any suggestions on some nice areas for young professionals?
The areas I listed are great options. Are you looking to rent or buy? Honestly, rent is cheaper in these areas in comparison to home prices for your mortgage, BUT it depends on what your long term goal is. They’re building a lot of apartment complexes in these areas and if you’re not from here, living in one of these buildings for a year is also a great way to meet people.
Im actually looking for an apartment. I currently live in Denver and im sure you're aware how expensive it is smh. A friend of mine moved to canton during covid and she loves is but I'd prefer to stay in Cleveland or possibly Columbus
I’ve personally never been up that far north. It’s Right on Lake Erie but in the Snow belt. My co worker, Todd Black lives up near there so he would know more than I would 😁
@@rlvarady I’ve only visited Austin twice and it was a fun city but this was back in 2017 when I lived in San Antonio. Now it’s probably crazyyy expensive 😬
Last place the Gordon district I drive every week. He is right lits of good places to live but still within gang disputes. Loads of good living areas. This guy has hit most of the marks.
Just depends what you're looking for! are you looking to rent or own? Single, kids? Want to be close to downtown? Downtown and into Ohio city, there are so many apartments being built so theres a lot of options. If you have kids, most people are in the suburbs like 20 minutes outside of Cleveland since schools are rated better there.but the homes are typically larger and more expensive.
As someone that lives in University Circle, it's a 15 minute drive to downtown not 5. I just wanted to confirm that. I'm planning to move to Ohio City because as you mentioned, it's actually a 2 min drive to downtown, has it's own downtown, and has Detroit Shoreway and Tremont nearby. Heads up to others, try to not consider University Circle as it's just okay. Much better to be on the west side right near downtown. Also to get downtown from University Circle you have to go through a horrible East Cleveland hood. Ohio City is 1 train stop away from downtown. University Circle is 6 stops away from downtown. Pick the one that is close and better.
You're going to love Ohio City! When I was a kid, my grandparents lived at West 47th near Brookside Park, and Grandma always went shopping at the West Side Market. This was a million years ago (early 60s...), so I didn't have any idea what the area was like now. I was surprised to hear Chef Michael Symon raving about the market and all the great restaurants in the area. About 2 years ago we stayed at a little hotel in the area and had a great time! The people could NOT have been kinder or more helpful.
What neighborhoods are near Cleveland State University? Which ones would you recommend for a person that would need to rely on public transportation? I'm asking about renting, not buying a property.
I agree,Asia Town is affordable & there's a fairly large art community there. I lived there's for several years. The neighbors were friendly & you can walk to CSU. I rented a 2 bdrm upstairs (a house behind a house... there's alot of those) for$450/mo.
It kills me when people alway Terrible Cleveland is of course its not like cities in Florida Texas or California, it's in line with all the cities in the northern industrial regions they all look very similar, some people don't like the south or way out west, it just pisses me off when people single out Cleveland, when they have the same damn thing as other cities in the region maybe even more
If you want a real taste of what Cleveland is all about and you're moving here.. Parma, brookpark, Berea on the west side Lyndhurst, Mayfield , Euclid on the East Real people.. Real neighborhoods .. You can always visit Tremont and those other spots , they are a short drive away But I don't know about living there every day.
I had a friend who went into Detroit Shore-way one Saturday morning, went in as a liberal left Democrat, by the time he left at 10:30 pm that night, he was a staunch MAGA hat wearing Republican.
I am Venezuelan, but I live in Atlanta, I will soon move to Cleveland, I have some doubts, do they not want Latin Americans, Hispanics from South America? Is that I have seen several very pessimistic videos and I would like to know by then not to move to those sides? Thanks friends.
I suggest staying on the west side. There are safe neighborhoods in West Cleveland that he mentions in this video. All the west side suburbs are nice and safe to varying degrees. I have lived in the Cleveland area for 40 years. I know the neighborhoods.
Tremont used to be called Lincoln Heights then it became the Southside now it's Tremont I grew up there. Not a very good place to live you don't know who's coming in there now. And the click it's pretty much fractured, so you got nobody for your back
Your videos are so helpful! I just moved to Downtown Cleveland and have been wondering about the neighboring cities! Can’t wait to check out some of these places you mentioned 😁
@@livinginnortheastohio8643 It’s definitely an adjustment from California, but so far I really like it! I’m nervous to see how this winter goes.. I’ve been doing some research and asking around about how to manage with the snow. Any Tips?
@@kiesharamos1126 it’s not as bad as you think. Get a scraper/brush for the car, some water proof boots if you walk around a lot, and a nice jacket. Cleveland does get a decent amount of snow from Lake Erie but the big storms that dump a lot of snow will only happen a few times a year.
@@kiesharamos1126- Here's the Advice: Buy some winter attire--A good warm coat, some gloves, a warm hat, and some winter boots. BTW, NO Place is safe within the city's borders. That's why everyone who could, fled to the suburbs starting around 1960! You need to be aware of what's going on around you, 24/7, 365 days a year! Sorry if that makes you "nervous," but better that than dead. Don't listen to this moron. He'll get you killed. This guy is dangerously detached from reality anyway. WHY would Tremont have a dowtown? It's a friggin neighborhood, not a city. Cities have downtowns, not neighborhoods. A few businesses on a street doesn't make a downtown by any stretch of the imagination. And TRENDY doesn't make for SAFE! More crime takes place within six blocks of West Side Market in a day, than what happens in a week in some of the worst inner circle suburbs. What's the point of trendy, if a woman can't walk to a corner store at night without fear of being raped? There's the way this clown would like things to be, and there's the way things actually are. Don't let yourself get confused between the two.
West Park...all the advantages of living in the city and suburbs. Safer and less expensive than the trendy west side neighborhoods. Roll out of bed to the red line to get anywhere worth visiting in the city. Easy access to the western suburbs via I-90 without the comical property tax. Kamms and downtown Lakewood right in your back yard.
Yeah westpark is great. You have Fairview hospital right there. You have all the bars on Lorain. You have the metro parks right in your backyard. And it’s very safe. So I agree with you
Most definitely! Some really nice suburbs further out towards the west lake, Rock River, down to the Solon area. I agree though, thanks for sharing. 🙌🏻
Hi thanks so much for this video. Last week I met someone from Ohio and I asked him about Ohio and he told me that he was born in Ohio, he told me not to move to Ohio because there are no jobs and it's a horrible state and I was so disappointed. I don't believe what he said because other people say nice things about Ohio even though I never lived in Ohio
You do have some people who are just negative about everything that type of person is a loser , but Cleveland overall is a good city it does have its rough parts but overall it's a alright city
I will make a few separate comments here. Great video to start. I will comment as we go. First, the King of Jordan came to Cleveland for many medical treatments. Little Italy is now somewhat dangeroys. Although what is being said is mostly true.
I’ve been living in Lakewood in the Gold Coast for nine years now, and absolutely no intention of leaving ever, it’s got everything a nice , diverse bohemian crowd, nice residences, the lake is at my doorstep, Our condo pool literally looks right at the lake, parks everywhere , tons of stores and shopping, nice people, and five minutes along the shoreway into downtown. The city itself of Lakewood I feel is an extremely well ran functional city, and that’s major. I like the fact that I feel so connected to the city of Cleveland itself to. The prices are reasonable also. As far as I’m concerned for my own circumstance it doesn’t get any better anywhere.
I love all of these areas as far as bars and restaurants are concerned. However, they are still iffy. I would not walk any of the streets after 10 or 11. And, if you have nice car, better be in a locked garage. Best place my opinion? Little Italy. They don't permit da'hood to come over and destroy things. Great video. Inciteful.
These areas are very mixed, meaning some streets and even neighborhoods are safe and inviting, then the next street over has homes that look like they should be condemned. Tons of new construction in these areas which is very exciting to see. Agreed with having a nice car parked on the street.
@@monicarenee7949 I would say look at the surrounding neighborhoods. The crime, destroyed homes, the noise boom boom boom cars driving around saying look at me to name a few. Alex is a statistic waiting to happen. Detroit-Shoreway is a working class ghetto, despite it's overpriced condos. It's not safe to walk the streets at night. Hell, it's not safe a quarter of the time in broad daylight. Even the thugs don't walk around alone after dark! A little bit of crime in Tremont and Ohio City? I'll try to respond when I stop roaring with laughter....
I grow weary of the term "working class ghetto." What is it supposed to mean? People who work with their hands, have a nuclear family, don't live in a $500k home, send their kids to public schools, drink beer instead of chardonnay, work to keep their houses up? Phooey. It's just a snob label from suburb dwellers.
@@petenofel- My answer to that is, walk around after dark, alone, in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. You'll find out real quick the meaning of the term. Take a good look at the majority of the properties. Pick up a copy of the police blotter for that area in a typical week. Gordon Park's a great place to visit--Try living between 85th and 65th north of Madison! (South of Madison's no picnic either.) People that work with their hands? What's that even mean? How about just people that hold down full time jobs! Sure, young professionals buy houses there, plant flowers in the front yard, then move the first time somebody sticks a gun in their face in their own driveway... Or worse! Please, don't try selling it to me. My last five years in Cleveland were spent there. You have to be on guard 24/7, and be willing to drop the hammer on the scumbags at a moments notice. University circle is becoming Cleveland's second downtown #CircleSquare they're planning tall buildings in the area creating its own skyline
And downtown Cleveland is expanding westward to accommodate that 30,000+ downtown Cleveland population projection with a few more towers plan to join Sherwin Williams new global headquarters
With Ohio City you can head south or north to gain highway access plus Ohio City has Rail transit access
Btw I'm not looking to buy a house, I am excited about visiting to try the different restaurants and check out the sites
Back in the 70.80.s dog fights in the back yard of the Christmas house
Clark to Denison between West 73rd to W.26th is a no go zone in my opinion
I’d say all but East
How do you rate Mentor On the Lake
I’ve personally never been up that far north. It’s Right on Lake Erie but in the Snow belt. My co worker, Todd Black lives up near there so he would know more than I would 😁
That was an interesting video
My favorite 3 are Beachwood Rocky river & downtown
Beachwood and River are cities, not neighborhoods. Downtown is a neighborhood though.
You forgot to mention Shaker Heights and Shaker Square, Beachwood Heights, Bratenahl, and Lakeshore Blvd.
Can you talk a little bit about shaker heights?
What about the Jefferson area by John Marshall
Puritas Longmead
I'm not going to lie Little Italy is the reason I'm moving back to Cleveland
Ayyy!! That’s awesome. Welcome back 🫡

@@rlvarady I’ve only visited Austin twice and it was a fun city but this was back in 2017 when I lived in San Antonio. Now it’s probably crazyyy expensive 😬
@@livinginnortheastohio8643 I lived here for 13 years and the city is losing its shine, besides the Italian food isn't great.
Last place the Gordon district I drive every week. He is right lits of good places to live but still within gang disputes. Loads of good living areas. This guy has hit most of the marks.
One of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver, was from Maple Heights.
Shaker Heights for the win!
I looking into moving to Cleveland im 3 hours away from Cleveland what area would you recommend to live ?
Just depends what you're looking for! are you looking to rent or own? Single, kids? Want to be close to downtown? Downtown and into Ohio city, there are so many apartments being built so theres a lot of options. If you have kids, most people are in the suburbs like 20 minutes outside of Cleveland since schools are rated better there.but the homes are typically larger and more expensive.
Brecksville about 20 south of C land.
Lakewood......
@@PlumasCountyCalif The home with the man and his cat?
Ohio City has a really good councilman as well.
What neighborhoods are near Cleveland State University? Which ones would you recommend for a person that would need to rely on public transportation? I'm asking about renting, not buying a property.
Asia town isn’t bad and is in walking distance to CSU. I wouldn’t live past E40th though.
I agree,Asia Town is affordable & there's a fairly large art community there. I lived there's for several years. The neighbors were friendly & you can walk to CSU. I rented a 2 bdrm upstairs (a house behind a house... there's alot of those) for$450/mo.
@@leslietucholski9700 they’re starting to ask for $600 and $700 for a decent and $900 for remodeled.

It kills me when people alway Terrible Cleveland is of course its not like cities in Florida Texas or California, it's in line with all the cities in the northern industrial regions they all look very similar, some people don't like the south or way out west, it just pisses me off when people single out Cleveland, when they have the same damn thing as other cities in the region maybe even more
Absolutely incorrect. West Park is by far the best, safest, cleanest part of Cleveland proper.
Some nice homes too.
There’s two sides to Detroit-shoreway: Gordon Square and the crack triangle
Very true! 😬
Glenville/Hough/King Kennedy/Eastern Cleveland. Thank me Later… 😂

If you want a real taste of what Cleveland is all about and you're moving here.. Parma, brookpark, Berea on the west side
Lyndhurst, Mayfield , Euclid on the East
Real people.. Real neighborhoods .. You can always visit Tremont and those other spots , they are a short drive away
But I don't know about living there every day.
Brecksville. Check it out.
Idk about Parma but otherwise sure
Tremont district you begin to get gang involved. Houses are going for a premium bt worth it but gang activity is there.
Do a living in Geauga County...
Funny tree man is a fabulous place but hardly anybody knows who actually started that the very first house the first one
I had a friend who went into Detroit Shore-way one Saturday morning, went in as a liberal left Democrat, by the time he left at 10:30 pm that night, he was a staunch MAGA hat wearing Republican.

which area is the best property investment in ohio?
I am Venezuelan, but I live in Atlanta, I will soon move to Cleveland, I have some doubts, do they not want Latin Americans, Hispanics from South America? Is that I have seen several very pessimistic videos and I would like to know by then not to move to those sides? Thanks friends.
I suggest staying on the west side. There are safe neighborhoods in West Cleveland that he mentions in this video. All the west side suburbs are nice and safe to varying degrees. I have lived in the Cleveland area for 40 years. I know the neighborhoods.
Tremont: It’s safe except for the carjackings. Huh?
theres definitely crime there but its a sought after area.
Exactly my thought. Maybe he meant vehicle theft?
@@rachaelcards3652 meant theft from vehicles if your cars unlocked

Tremont used to be called Lincoln Heights then it became the Southside now it's Tremont I grew up there. Not a very good place to live you don't know who's coming in there now. And the click it's pretty much fractured, so you got nobody for your back
Bro missed Harvard and Denison, easily the best parts of Cleveland
Well, the good news is that you could probably buy a half mile plot of land in East Cleveland for about $100.
Westlake 24/7
How about bay Village
Not a neighborhood. its a really nice suburb though.
Glad you mentioned Lakeview cemetery . Four presidents are buried there . I've spent many days at Lakeview .
Its a very cool area and kind of a hidden Gem since most people would not think to check out a Cemetery.
Can you give me the rundown on Goodrich kirtland/Asiatown

Safer.. Yeah, New Year's Eve showed how safe Kamms can be.
Yeah westpark is great. You have Fairview hospital right there. You have all the bars on Lorain. You have the metro parks right in your backyard. And it’s very safe. So I agree with you

Hi thanks so much for this video.

That’s awesome 😎
The exploding crime is pretty nice too.

In little Italy they’re also just generally racist towards black people who aren’t trying to do any harm. Not safe for me.

Maybe some people find that adventurous. I didn't.
