I'm a third generation Elvis fan. I was born 8 year after Elvis passed. My grandma and mom where huge Elvis fans. In 1996 for my 12 birthday they took me to Graceland and to meet Charlie Hodge. When I got to Charlie I remember telling him I wanted to touch the hand of a man who I had touched Elvis because I would never get to touch Elvis. Charlie got up from the table where he was at and gave me a hug, kiss on the forehead, and a autographed red scarf. I'm almost 40 now and that was one of the best birthdays I ever had. Thank you for keeping Elvis alive. Charlie was so sweet.

That was Charlie Hodge. One of his closest friends and musical partners. He sung backup harmony on stage and in studio with Elvis and was always the guy handing Elvis his water and scarves for fans. He’s easy to spot since Elvis was 6ft 2 and Charlie was NOT 6 ft 2. Smile😊. My dad and I got to spend time with Charlie every day on. Couple vacations in Pigeon Forge. For many years Charlie played himself on stage with Eddie Miles’ tribute to Elvis. He’s come out and talk to fans who hung out in the afternoon and tell the coolest, sweetest stories about Elvis. He said the world will never know how generous Elvis was. He was constantly obsessed with giving to and caring for others. I was 14 years old and didn’t know for sure if I wanted to be a musician but it was then and there the the kind of man I wanted to be was clearly defined. Charlie passed a few years ago. He was just as precious as Elvis.

He had a beautiful hair, even in the end of his life at 42, his hairdresser said it was thick and strong. He did use herbal oils on it. He was into taking care of his skin and care. That long hair got him kicked off the football team at Humes High School. All the guys had crew cuts in the 50's, he changed styles and fashion. My little redheaded brother in middle school had the Elvis hair and the turned up collar from Elvis influence. The musicals like "Bye Bye Birdie". And " Grease" were a copy of Elvis. His school mates made fun of the hair, one group of guys cornered him in the restroom and were going to hold him down and cut his hair when a football player named Sonny West stopped them. West would become one of Elvis Bodyguards when he hit the Big Time. Elvis suffered for his fame in the beginning, See "Elvis Presley and the Black Community". Thanks for your great reaction, you are one of the best. Thanks Be Blessed

Elvis recorded his part and then the back up singers practiced their back up parts and then they all came together for rehearsal.
Also, Elvis is the first solo performer that demanded backup singers from the beginning and hired so many of them. He changed music in so many ways and one significant one was the opportunity people began to have to make their living singing oohs and ahhhs.

This is a few weeks before they all reunite in Vegas in prep for the late summer/fall Vegas engagement in 1970. The guy holding the lyrics and singing harmony is Charlie Hodge, an Elvis confident, friend, band and Memphis Mafia (Elvis's entourage) member. Catch Elvis at the end where he tell's the backup singer with the high octave voice (Millie Kirkham) "hang on baby. Yeah..."

Britt indeed you are a darling!
The Sweet Inspirations were absolutely the greatest vocalist
And a match made in heaven that genuinely complemented the Presley style.
Trivia matters; Elvis wanted to date Sweet Inspirations singer Myrna Yvonne Smith
but she called Elvis the boss and refused to mix business with pleasure.
Myrna did marry Elvis' friend side kick & Memphis Mafia member Jerry Schilling from 1982-1987.
Sadly Myrna passed from kidney failure, she was 69 (1941-2010).
As a member of the Sweet Inspirations, Myrna was best known for her work with Elvis Presley & Aretha Franklin.

The guy you are referring to is Charlie Hodge. He sang harmony. He met Elvis when they were in the army together. He played bit parts in a few Elvis movies. You will also see him sitting next to Elvis in the ‘68 comeback special, along with providing Elvis with all the scarves etc during the concert years.

That was Charlie Hodge standing by Elvis. He had been singing with a gospel group prior to being inducted into the army, and was on the same troop ship with Elvis to Germany, where they were both stationed. They were lifelong friends from that time on. On stage, he played an acoustic guitar, sang harmony with Elvis, and gave him his water and scarves. He had a room at Graceland.

Happy New Year Ms Britt, you need to watch the entire video show called Elvis That's the Way it is , i remember being 9 years old and my aunt took us to the drive in theater, we had no idea what was going to be shown , one of the best days of my life, watch the entire show and you will see so many different sides of Elvis , cutting up with the group and looking sexy as hell , He was always a regular guy that was a true friend of each of the band, you won't find that anymore , i personally like when he is wearing the Red shirt and black pants , just having a great time and then takes it home , each of these members are hand picked by Elvis himself and they adored the Beautiful Man , its really fun to watch him getting ready to go on stage before the show , nervous as always, but looking so so beautiful, i mean watch the Man walk , no one else ever comes close to this beautiful Man Among Men Elvis and they all would go up to Elvis suite at the my International Hotel and sing gospel till morning time , so so missed , you should be watch the video Elvis, The Man I knew , which.he gave on the rocks in the lake talking about the Man he knew , so beautiful and such an incredible honor for Charlie Hodge, but so so beautiful and true , Yes they had color TV then , Thanks Britt for sharing your love for this beautiful man Elvis who will never be forgotten.
