Deep Purple was one the most popular bands in the seventies. Then they disbanded to form Whitesnake and Rainbow and reunite again about 85. So the Millenials can recognize better one of those two other 80's bands, but Deep Purple had a lot of great hits of the seventies. You must try to discover more from them. Some of the great rock riffs and classic songs were made by them inspiring other new bands until now.
I had the pleasure of watching a Deep Purple show at the launch of the 30th anniversary album Purple, when the original guitarist returned to the band. This show took place in São Paulo - Brazil, at Via Funchal. One of the best shows I have ever seen, simply a lesson in music and the delivery of art in its essence.
Their reunion in 1984 with Ian Gillian, vocalist. Another great track on that LP is "Knocking at Your Back Door". You will love the build up at the beginning. Reminds me of the Jaws movie theme. Other great Deep Purple tracks include Space Truckin' & Woman From Tokyo " from different LPs 😊❤.
Saw these absolute professionals in 73 in Long Beach with MK2 line up,74 at Cal Jam 1 with the Mk3 line up and for the last time in 84 touring for this album.
My favorite Deep Purple song! It's fun to play like and is versatile, meaning the group I played with would include it as part of a medley. Thanks for taking a listen, Bisscute, and Merry Christmas!
Deep purple has influenced many of the bands you listen to today..planet rock ranks them fifth most influential rock band..they were huge in their heyday.
One of the greatest rock bands of all time Ritchie Blackmore founding member and also one of our greatest guitarist of Deep Purple along with Ian Gillan Dave Coverdale Roger Glover. Great reaction Biss and i am happy sorted my problem so i can start commeting again❤
I love that video. I remember the anticipation waiting for MTV to show the World Premier video. Back then, MTV had exclusive rights to a lot if not all videos and this lineup of Deep Purple (MK II lineup) was the most successful lineup and there were uniting for their first album since the early 70s. The story of the video with all the members greeting each other and the words to the song was so spot on with a big reunion.
The way Ian sings my favorite rock lyric line "I know I must remain inside this silent well of sorrow" STILL blows me away. As do the rest of the lyrics. I was a die hard Deep Purple fan by the time this came out, but the Perfect Strangers tour was the first time I saw them live. It was NOT the last. The next time they blew me away this much, it was with their Perpendicular album, and new guitarist Steve Morse's introductory notes to the opening track "Vavoom: Ted The Mechanic". You should check that out, or perhaps even better, the live version of Speed King on the Perihelion tour - the musical interaction between Steve Morse and Jon Lord is amazing, and the rest of the band is absolutely at the top of their game.
Amen, exactly my sentiments. Perfect Strangers and Purpendicular are two of my favorite albums. In 1985, in Sweden, you had to be in a telephone queue to get a ticket, unless you wanted to sleep outside for 2-3 days. They phoned up and I said that I wanted eight tickets for the concert. Sorry, it is sold out, they said. But there is an extra concert on Saturday. It is also sold out. There is an extra concert on Sunday. There are tickets left, is that OK? They were absolutely brilliant. I have then seen them in 1987 and four or five times with Steve Morse. "Live at the Olympia" is one of my favorite albums.
Saw this tour back in the 80s and DP rocked. Awesome show. This song is so mystical sounding, especially the outro, it could be its own religion. Made for tripping. The entire Perfect Strangers album is amazing. What a comeback.
Perfect Strangers was the first Deep Purple studio album in nine years. Perfect Strangers is also the first album with the Mk II line-up in eleven years, the last being Who Do We Think We Are (1973). They were working with other bands, Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover arrived from Rainbow, Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath, Jon Lord from Whitesnake, and Ian Paice from Gary Moore's backing band.
I was 16 when this dropped. It was considered to be the greatest comeback album of the time. There is no mistaking that intro! That's the sound of Deep Purple's secret weapon, keyboardist Jon Lord and his distorted Hammond B3 organ.
No one talks about Born Again but it’s an incredible album, actually one of my favorites. So crunchy and good. The whole album but Zero the Hero killer
Seen DP on this tour in Stuggart, Germany and Black Sabbath on the Born Again tour in San Francisco, California in early '84. Both shows were awesome, Ian Gillian blew the roof off at both shows. 🤘🤘
You are correct, and after that year he spent with Sabbath, he had surgery on his vocal cords to remove nodes and came back too soon against doctor’s advice for the reformed Deep Purple and his voice was never the same.
This was Deep Purple's reunion album after many years. "Machinehead" was the last album this lineup recorded before Ian Gillan (the singer) was replaced by David Coverdale. One of the most powerful rock albums of all time. Two major bands formed from DP's break up: Richie Blackmore's Rainbow and Whitesnake!
What's ironic is this album happened because DP's manager tricked Ritchie , after the Rainbow 83-84 tour , he told Joe Lynn Turner , Ritchie doesn't want to do another Rainbow tour , and told Ritchie Joe wants to go solo . They both found out years later they had been lied to . So management could make money on a reunion . But they did create a excellent album as a result .
You now have became a Purple fan, that's great. People only have to listen to Deep Purple to appreciate them, just like you're doing. They were never interested on being a popular good looking band, but they are more interested in the music. That's why you have seen in this video so many random scenes, not really related to the song, these are images of the recording sessions, not intended to appear as a "clip", they don't like making videos, they like to be musicians. So I reccomend you to react to live versions of Deep Purple songs, maybe the next one could be "GYPSY'S KISS". Cheers
Good morning Bisscutie! Deep Purple caused a huge stir when they first appeared on the radio. Great guitars, vocals, keyboards with a unique sound. Although they were overplayed, especially Smoke on the Water which became a meme.
This came out when I was in High School, generally We had the "New Wave" kids (Duran Duran, New Order, Thompson Twins, kind of sound) and the "Heavy Metal" kids; at the time it was very "Hair" metal heavy. Deep Purple were like "old people" music at that point, they started in the 60's with Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. But honestly, all the musicians in DP are pretty good to amazingly great. In the U.S. Ritchie Blackmore never got the attention He deserved (so many guitar players). I really think He sees music in colors or something, His solos feel grand, sweeping, and kind of 'exotic'. This album rocks so hard though. I remember blasting it on the way home from closing up the McDonald's I worked at. Those guys are really amazing.
Great song and great reaction! You hit this one right on the button with the guitar riffs! I love the riffs in this song! Another 80's gem thanks for sharing Biss! You are still my #1 80's Rocker Girl!🤟🤟❤️💛
This is a great reunification album for the band. Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were given a nickname of “The Unholy Trinity of British Rock” since they all formed about the same time in England. Very cool song. Great reaction 👍
Keep in mind that they are still active today, albeit with a different guitarist and keyboardist, and continue to release very good albums, last released this year. Deep Purple has been active since 1968 and has had many line-up changes and musical styles due to the different influences of each musician who has been part of it. It would be simplistic to consider them only those of Smoke On The Water or Child In Time, there are so many hidden gems even in lesser known and less commercially successful works. While keeping Hard Rock as a basis the first 3 albums have very little Hard Rock, they are a mix of Psychedelic Pop and Progressive Rock with influences from Pink Floyd and Beatles, over the years there have been Classical influences with Jon Lord, Ritchie Blacknore those medieval, Blues with singer David Coverdale (later founder of Whitesnake) Glenn Hughes and Tommy Bolin brought Funky sounds, Joe Lynn Turner with his AOR.
My tip is the participation of the iconic Deep Purple vocalist - Ian Guillan - with the legendary members of Black Sabath on the album "Born Again". Listen to the song of the same name. satisfaction guaranteed.
Oh man, I just love your accent soo much :) It reminds me of my very first crush i had in my teenage years on a girl i met online on a site called "Helgon". It was one of the early days of internet social medias for alternative people like goths, synth and other alternative fashion style type of people. She was from Romania but we lost contact over the years but you just reminded me of her! :) I've always wanted to go to Romania to check out various stuff, way before i met her even.
Deep Purple is a unique rock band. Everyone can say that they are one of the best. The best vocalist, keyboard player, guitarist, drummer, etc. It is better to listen to them from 1972 and better in concert.
7:44 There are certain bands like The Beatles and The Stones that transcend generations. But many greats such as Deep Purple are somewhat lost in time. That is why rediscovering them feels more meaningful.
Thanks for another unique BISS reaction to one of my all time favourite bands. You know, when Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore weren't fighting with each other, DP produced some of the best hard rock in the history of music. Any song off the Machine Head or Perfect Strangers albums is just gold as well as In Rock or Who Do You Think We Are. Each musician in this band are top level. When they reunited for this album, they came to my city (Canberra, the Capital of Australia), I was over the moon. Seeing them live (now 3 times) was one of the highlights of my musical journey. Now, if I can only get Babymetal to pay a visit..........
I believe the location is the The Base Lodge in Stowe VT. The property was owned by the Von Trapped family in which the movie The Sound of Music is based. The working title of the album during writing, rehearsing and recording was The Sound of Music. They wouldn't let them record in the Base Lodge so they had to move to another location. I slept overnight in my car in front of the Providence Civic Center to get tickets for this tour. We got around six inches of snow and it was cold but i got my tickets and had a blast at the show.
I always see this song in a Sci-Fi perspective. Our future selves sending “anonymous” messages to our present selves, a thousand times, paving the way for us to reach them, a thousand ways. It’s the little ironies of my life that elevate the meaning of this song. Love ya Biss! ✌️😘💕🌹
Hi Bisscute! It's been a while since you've heard Putri Ariani. She has an absolute gem hiding on her channel, a cover she made when she was 13. Lady Gaga - I'll never love again cover by Putri Ariani. It's my personal favorite from her, the song is from the A Star is Born -movie.
Great song. Easy top 5 Purple 💜 songs for me!! Not sure the video had much to do with anything? Not sure when the VHS edit was done if they looked at each other and said "Oh ya! Nailed it"!! Great Reaction Biss! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼🎄
Your welcome biss keep playing the 70s & 80s music if you can i understand its not easy to get to play a lot of songs i want you to enjoy these songs because you deserve it because your a speacal lady to all of your fans❤😊
This reaction was the one that made me Subscribe. This band is in an elite group of "The Greatest". (edit) BTW - no such thing as head banging too hard to Deep Purple! :)
Deep Purple's primary claim to fame was during the 1970's during which they wrote one of the most covered garage band anthems Smoke On The Water. The best I ever heard Ian Gillan sing was apart from the band on a record called Jesus Christ Superstar where he sang the lead of Jesus. Most guitarists of that era considered Ritchie Blackmore one of the best guitar players if not the cleanest and most technically gifted.
Good reaction Biss. I don't know the reason either maybe it was management they needed to tour more because I don't have UA-cam and other means to put their stuff out there😊
Loved reaction biss, I've never herd this song, Ritchie blackmore is a great gitarest, they have a real full sound with the synthesizer to,thy would have been great to hear in Concert, your so cute, i hope you love spain❤😊
Your welcome biss, iknow you do alot more things then song reactions, but if you can keep playing songs from the 70s&80s there's some amazing music, music can really make your day, you always make my day ❤you😊
Hi Bisscute. Greetings from Edmonton, Canada 🇨🇦. I really enjoyed your reaction to this great song. I highly recommend listening to another version of this song which has Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden as guest vocalist. It’s great as well. Take care and Merry Christmas to you 😁
I dig Deep Purple. Smoke On the Water is iconic. I saw Alice Cooper in 1973 when I was 3. Smoke on the Water came out the next year. Jethro Tull, Heart, Linda Ronstadt & The Eagles are my early youth. I remember Deep Purple more than Black Sabbath myself. I have an appreciation for both, of course, but Deep Purple had the iconic riff.
I remember when this came out, the guys were not doing very well on their own, yet they did not like each other. The $$$$$ spoke and they got back together... Yet each guy must remain a Perfect Stranger to the others. Then they will stay together as a band. It was a great concert for this tour, I paid 9 dollars for a ticket.... On the night of the show!!
Knowing that Deep Purple existed, and having listened to their music makes you a cooler cat than all your contemporary gen z fellows.
Trippy, sensuous, soulful. They don’t fail.
One of the greatest hard rock band in the history of music! The album is perfect!
One of the Greatest Reunion Albums ever made !!!!!!!

The Whole Album is Great. That’s one of my favorite songs from Deep Purple. 🤘🔥🤘🔥
This album introduced me to Deep Purple. I love this entire album. Thanks to you, Biss, for bringing these great artists to the younger generations!🤘🤘
Rumor has it, that this was the only time that the guitar god richie blackmore ever smiled😮
I always think that too, everytime I watch this. He can't deny it either, it's on video
I had the pleasure of watching a Deep Purple show at the launch of the 30th anniversary album Purple, when the original guitarist returned to the band. Brazil is the best place in the world for rock shows. Legendary audiences !

If you only knew this band’s history 😂
We would be here for hours talking about it 😂😂😂
Love Deep Purple, great music and the vocals by Ian Gillan are always phenomenal!
This is my second favorite song by them. For me though, nothing beats "Rat Bat Blue". Jon Lord shows off!!

over 40 years I've been playing that in my head...do do do do do do
As comeback musical statements go, this one is as good as it gets.

Gives me a similar vibe as Kashmir by Zep. Solid rhythm pulls it along.
Biss picks great songs.
The entire album is a banger. Also, if you like songs that have that "call to war or fight" vibe, check out Saxon's Crusader.

This band is in an elite group of "The Greatest".
(edit) BTW - no such thing as head banging too hard to Deep Purple! :)
We are marching, you are right... But we are marching through time... What happened in time, is still happening now.

What a great band!
Knocking at your back door.

Also checkout Ritchie Blackmore s other band RAINBOW. ❤
Riff is just badass
