Just picked it up. Had to stop here for validation, but also loved the 1st. Platinum and all dlc trophies unlocked. Can't wait to dive deep into this...right now!
Took me about about 3 or 4 times starting and restarting tje original Surge, but I finally figured out how to play it, grew to love it, and conquered it. Just picked up the second one and I am loving it! Way better than the first. Way more polished in regards to combat! Not as labrynthian seeming as fhe first, but hey, I'm still in the first section of the city at the time of writing this comment. Can't way to see the rest!
I need to pick back up on the first one. I got stuck on a boss and just put it down one day but I LOVED every moment of the game up to that point. Like Jake said, underrated.
I’ll be getting this game soon. It looks great! I liked the bare bones story telling of the first so I’ll probably agree with you about the exposition in the sequel. We’ll see though.
I did did greatly love the first Surge with the Walk in the Park DLC and my fave was the Single-rigged weapon types. Heavy Duty were nice too, for armor I liked the Proteus one. Definitely will Play Surge 2 as well
I love the Surge series so far. I gotta say that thisbwasba fantastic sequal and I can't wait for the next one or even spin offs if they decide. This game was faster than the first one, and I loved that they added some depth to the NPCs that you meet. The story was great and I kept craving to go back to it again. Possibly the greatest "souls-like game" out there. Something I had a problem with was that it was too easy toward the end, and I felt like I ended up using the same armor the whole time and leveling the shit out of it. I always end up trying to be light and mobile, but still ended up being a heavy player in the second half. But unloved the variety of weapons, the heavier use of drones, and the better use of the blocking system (the first had a dodge system that I didn't find intuitive and hardly used). I also liked how they gave you the option (again) to do away with these perks to favor other implants if you wanted them. Overall, I love this series and can't wait to see the next one (hopefully).
I was very impressed with the 1st game. I didn't buy it though, I just played through the ps4 demo, twice. I was addicted to Destiny at the time. I'll be getting Surge 2.
Huge Surge fan here. One of my favorite things to do was to collect all of the armor sets in the first game just to wear them and take cool photos. I also love the amount of work some of them took to get, and the surge 2 gives me so much more of that, all with a badass combat system and a new, interesting and varied world (although I actually liked the factory/industrial setting of the first game a lot). Instant 9/10 (for both games) with my only gripe being fighting the game’s camera and just a couple of the bosses feeling a teeny tiny bit boring
I wanted to love the first one but every fight was either you do a running attack on a weak part and trivialize the fight entirely, or you attack like 'normal' and end up getting smacked hard because the enemies don't get stunned unless using super heavy weapons. became pointless to do anything but running attacks, the entire game. even the final boss was trivialized by charging in and doing a two hit combo with twin rigs and then backing out until you had the stamina to repeat.
Almost at the end with every side quest/collectable and piece of gear collected and it's definitely an improvement on the first game which I finished 3 times The bosses aren't lacking especially towards the end and the story and lore throughout is easy to follow and understand all the way to the end definitely a great game and I wanna see a franchise born
Setup I used for first playthrough: Weapon - Brother Truman's spear Arms and head - chrysalis armor Body and legs - spark galvanizer Add implants to your liking. But that base will be able to easily carry you through the bulk of the game. I was able to facetank the final boss.
@@joeyknight1989 if you back away from him a decent amount, he will do a jumping attack towards you. Dodge to your right when he does it, and you will have a decent amount of time to get a few hits in before he recovers. Back away and repeat. That early in the game it's a little tough to fight him head on. Also, remember to dodge when the red laser from his drone targets you. Just remember, if you constantly keep circling the room in a counterclockwise direction, and keep your distance, you can probably beat him without getting him. Just don't get too eager or greedy
I'm here because of GOG - a sale, specifically. I played through the surge on PS4 Pro. I loved it, never got to play the DLC. Sold my PS4, built a PC; might as well pick up the surge 2 now.
I played the first surge a few months before this and surprisingly I really really loved it, among the many games in this genre it is one of my favorites ... so I was really looking forward to this but I was comparing it to the first surge almost all the time thinking how I liked that one better ... sure the story was missing and is better here but the random dude you create has no soul at least I remembered warren, the combat feels weird more complicated and less fun and fluid ... they really want to push the counter mechanic kind of obvious for many bosses, and I really dont like how they changed the limb cutting with that armor thingy, you need to pick a limb and only attack that otherwise you cant do enough damage to it to get that part ... just a lot of small things that were there because I knew the first game
thank you for being decent game reviewers and never (well none that I've noticed) throwing your politics one way or another into your reviews, like alotta other reviewers do anymore.
Never been a fan of Souls-like games, but the first Surge was a great title that still has me hooked. Got other games to finish first but this is definitely on my radar!
Anyone else watch EVERY before you buy, even if you know for sure your not getting the game ? Literally just for the format and the crews voices. I'm feeling like I'm crazy or have no life
I didn't finish the first Surge... Yet, but damn that game was good. Mysterious and a bit startling at times. I like how the character in the beginning seemed generally scared of what the hell was going on. That kind of gave you a sense of emersion. I did not want to die in that game in the beginning cause it was soooo creepy, but after like the 100th time and after you level up to be a bad ass, it grows on ya. lol
Honestly, played the original. Started speedrunning through it and ended up making it to the second last boss without dying. Loved the original, can't wait to play the sequel
I played and streamed the surge for the first time last month and I loved it, even did a new game plus which I never do. Started the surge 2 and while the combat is much better, I liked the dark horror atmosphere of the first one. I would love to replay part one with part 2's combat.
I like the the story and lore elements but I agree about the picking the origin, I stressed over that for several moments, what does each one mean? How well it effect game play, and so far only the vendors like “oh your a so and so, I got a deal for you.” So doesn’t feel like the origins matter at all.
good "before you buy" content sir ! well done. why do i think about cyberpunk when i see this game? maybe its because its lookings or the upgrade station... greetings TommyTarkov
Thank you! An actually good review on this AND without spoilers. Already watched a few and all were terrible with both describing the changes and spoilering shit For my opinions on the first game: I wasn't head over heels, but it is definitely a good game, with a lot of cool stuff and I think devs did a very great job working on their mistakes and improving on stuff that was good from original Lords of the Fallen, so I don't doubt The Surge 2 is a great game. What I was wondering is how different it is compared to the first one and if I should go for my third playthrough in the first game or I could just go with the same general build into the new game without missing out on anything. I think I'll go for that third playthrough first and will start The Surge 2 right after I'm done with the first one again 😅
Really and genuinely, they’ve nailed it this time around. Lords of the Fallen was a bit of a rough start, so slow and clunky. Surge 1 was rough as well in terms of story and context but it’s gameplay was really engaging. Surge 2 is great. The mechanics are good, huge variety of weapons and gorgeous looking armour. More quests that are actually a good use of the huge and various areas in the world. I love the Surge 2, it may well be a Game of the Year for many people if only because it’s just so solid and delivers exactly what we needed from it, better context for our actions and more toys to play with in its now beautifully realised world.
surge 1 took what was good of the souls game, added their own little things, removed the pure enrage feature of currency inflation-per-level; (now, losing 15k in the second area is not something worth to restart the save for) everything after you meet the board seems like they designed in a fever dream halfway trough production, has you litterally only just found 3 records (and a secret area) actually pointing out to that, and the design of the rogue program 1st phase, from the look, to the movement, to the hit-deadzone is the worst part of the game
I really, really, do not know why people are so shy about comparing a game to Dark Souls, or to say "Soulslike". Its a new, perfectly legitimate genre. We have a precedent with terms like "Roguelike" or "Metroidvania." Here, Jake tried the term "deliberate action-combat RPG." What a mouthful. People act like journalists are being cliche in saying "soulslike", like repeating "it really makes you feel like Batman." It's not journalists fault that all these soulslike games are coming out. Were people in 1890 like "I know its a cliche to say by now, but the new Mary Shelley novel is a Science Fiction story." Is it because everything moves so much faster in 2019, that new terms can spread super quickly and - thus - feel like a fad because of its abruptness? I don't get it.
It's alright to make actual comparisons and holding it to light when it's related to the genre. It'd another to say Cuphead is Just Like Darksouls because you die, or that Paper Mario is Just Like Dark Souls because there's a checkpoint
Honestly this game is just more stressful then it's ever fun the open sandbox design just managed to be a headache to navigate least with the first one it was straight forward to a degree I find it hard to enjoy any combat when the desire to win is less for progress and more so you don't have to endure up to another half hour of wondering about and going in circles
I knew I was gonna like The Surge 2 because I liked The Surge 1, but with more weapons and better exploration due to the new setting. I ended up falling in love with it once I saw the beauty of directional parrying
Great game! I kinda enjoy Deck13's soulslikes more than the games that inspired them. Surge 2 is a step up from the original in pretty much every aspect, but I do prefer the atmosphere and sense of isolation in the first game. Also, I'm not a fan of how they streamlined the implant system here.

@Teamgeist why's that 🤔 ig it was underrated coz ppl didn't wanna talk about it or give it a try after knowing its a souls like game it didn't get the fair treatment from gamers anyone literally anyone into these kind of games would love it but I'd love to know why think it was shitty?
@@khalidkhamesti7363 how many days did u take to complete this game ? Because I am also playing Borderlands 3
@@kalpak7368 i finished the first one in 4 days don't know how many hours tho
Same here. The surge > bloodborne > dark souls for me. And i loved the latter as well. The surge is just even better
@@cirescythe it is i liked the changes they have made to the medbay and the whole process of upgrading ur gear and exo suit
Just picked it up. Had to stop here for validation, but also loved the 1st. Platinum and all dlc trophies unlocked. Can't wait to dive deep into this...right now!
I loved the first surge so much i platted it for ps4. The combat was so goddamn satisfying.
Which boss? If you don't mind me asking
Definitely will Play Surge 2 as well
bloody proteus and asclepius are opaf in surge 1 with an energy/medivolt build
3:45 that parry into decapitation look really awesome. I'm sold!👍🏿
Loved the first one so much, and pre ordered the second one, after this review I'm happy I made the right decision 😁
Nice live video earlier, really professional of you.
Basically every rpg
Skærs I think sekiro did well to make a few bosses not pokeable but true poking is the way to win but beating things with deflection feels so good
Loved the first game! This one isn't disappointing so far. A blast to play. Platinum here I come!
Playing through the first one right now. It isnt perfect but it's a pretty enjoyable game. I think its slept on massively. Deck 13 did a good job.
bold of you to assume I didnt already buy it-
*laughs in bamboozled*
Almost at the end with every side quest/collectable and piece of gear collected and it's definitely an improvement on the first game which I finished 3 times
The bosses aren't lacking especially towards the end and the story and lore throughout is easy to follow and understand all the way to the end definitely a great game and I wanna see a franchise born
Setup I used for first playthrough:
Weapon - Brother Truman's spear
Arms and head - chrysalis armor
Body and legs - spark galvanizer
Add implants to your liking. But that base will be able to easily carry you through the bulk of the game. I was able to facetank the final boss.
Any tips for the first boss warden?
@@joeyknight1989 if you back away from him a decent amount, he will do a jumping attack towards you. Dodge to your right when he does it, and you will have a decent amount of time to get a few hits in before he recovers. Back away and repeat. That early in the game it's a little tough to fight him head on. Also, remember to dodge when the red laser from his drone targets you. Just remember, if you constantly keep circling the room in a counterclockwise direction, and keep your distance, you can probably beat him without getting him. Just don't get too eager or greedy
IT LOOKS LIKE ITS AWESOME. I personally love the idea of adaption they shod do stuff like that more often .
I'm feeling like I'm crazy or have no life
Thank you.
@@gameranxTV 👍 You guys make every day allot better. See ya on the next vid
In every single one of these he says "you know how these work" or some variation of it, yet continually describes exactly what a before you buy is
That's how it works.
@@FrameTheTime Are you God?

I'm not a fan of this game but I know it is good for those who really into this type.
At least you get it.
Amazing, finally someone who doesn’t have to hate on something just because they don’t like it, well done sir
I didn't finish the first Surge... Yet, but damn that game was good. Mysterious and a bit startling at times. I like how the character in the beginning seemed generally scared of what the hell was going on. That kind of gave you a sense of emersion. I did not want to die in that game in the beginning cause it was soooo creepy, but after like the 100th time and after you level up to be a bad ass, it grows on ya. lol
Thankyou guys for doing this as I’ve brough games from before you buy thankyou
I could never get into dark souls but I love the Surge series; this game is challenging and a ton of fun.
The first one was one of the best games I've ever played
surge 1 story was definitely more engaging BUT both games are worth buying. surge 2 was fun as hell too. can't wait for expansions
"The Surge 2 - After You Buy" title. is. fixed.
Loving the new fist weapons. They hit a little harder than twin rigged but still give some nice attack speed and mobility.
you know it's one of thr best franchise when other developers copy its mechanics
Cerberous armor+keep battery implants+fast weapon is my build and I find it to be overpowered!
Also I wish they would add multiplayer to the game cause me and my bro always play this and we want to play together

Nice video again Jake.
I just absolutely can't decide between this and Code Vein. 😁
Making decisions soon...
Thanks for the Review , LOVE IT... Now I M DOWNLOADING THE SURGE 2 as I watching your video You made much more wanted , thanks Bro
I love your videos please keep up the good work.
Thank you! An actually good review on this AND without spoilers. Already watched a few and all were terrible with both describing the changes and spoilering shit
For my opinions on the first game: I wasn't head over heels, but it is definitely a good game, with a lot of cool stuff and I think devs did a very great job working on their mistakes and improving on stuff that was good from original Lords of the Fallen, so I don't doubt The Surge 2 is a great game. What I was wondering is how different it is compared to the first one and if I should go for my third playthrough in the first game or I could just go with the same general build into the new game without missing out on anything. I think I'll go for that third playthrough first and will start The Surge 2 right after I'm done with the first one again 😅
If you farm a single enemy too much, they will get the 'revenge' flag and become enraged and buffed.
Haven't played them, but after hearing your thoughts on the games I think I'll pick them up sometime.
First surge was amazing for me.. 2 was my most anticipated game of 2019.. and i'm loving it
Loved the first search got stuck on a couple hard bosses and ended up not moving past them such a unique fighting style
For those who don't know.. The Surge is on Game Pass for Xbone.
No its not. Stop spreading lies dumbass.
@DAMANI DAVIS Xbone - Xbox One
Really and genuinely, they’ve nailed it this time around.
Lords of the Fallen was a bit of a rough start, so slow and clunky. Surge 1 was rough as well in terms of story and context but it’s gameplay was really engaging.
Surge 2 is great. The mechanics are good, huge variety of weapons and gorgeous looking armour. More quests that are actually a good use of the huge and various areas in the world.
I love the Surge 2, it may well be a Game of the Year for many people if only because it’s just so solid and delivers exactly what we needed from it, better context for our actions and more toys to play with in its now beautifully realised world.
surge 1 took what was good of the souls game, added their own little things, removed the pure enrage feature of currency inflation-per-level; (now, losing 15k in the second area is not something worth to restart the save for)
everything after you meet the board seems like they designed in a fever dream halfway trough production, has you litterally only just found 3 records (and a secret area) actually pointing out to that, and the design of the rogue program 1st phase, from the look, to the movement, to the hit-deadzone is the worst part of the game
I loved the surge I beat it 3 times and I’m definitely planning on getting surge 2
@Sylas84 how so?
@Sylas84 he asked you a question, im asking the same.
how so?
@Sylas84 we asked for your opinion not someone elses.
@Sylas84 so yeah i bought it and im over halfway through it, and its actually really good, guess your opinion or lack of one was shit after all
I really, really, do not know why people are so shy about comparing a game to Dark Souls, or to say "Soulslike".
Were people in 1890 like "I know its a cliche to say by now, but the new Mary Shelley novel is a Science Fiction story."
Is it because everything moves so much faster in 2019, that new terms can spread super quickly and - thus - feel like a fad because of its abruptness? I don't get it.
It's alright to make actual comparisons and holding it to light when it's related to the genre.
It'd another to say Cuphead is Just Like Darksouls because you die, or that Paper Mario is Just Like Dark Souls because there's a checkpoint
Finally, thank you jake
I really liked the first game, I'm planning to buy it today thanks to a discount in the psn, really looking forward to this
Got super hooked on dark souls and bloodbourne. Just bought this on sale on the ps store. Hope I like it
