    When I first heard about this game I loved it. But when finally playing it I kept getting stuck on what to do at certain parts of them game. I could never find a good video to explain all the rules and exceptions of the game. Until now. Very well put together. I am glad I found this video. Thank you!

    One little clarification: The reason why Dracula's combat cards remain on the board is that they serve as TIME tokens. After the 6th card joins the stack the combat is automatically terminated (12 page, point nr 6 in the Introductory manual) . So that is the 3rd way a combat can end: 1) Death 2) Escape 3) Time ran out after 6th rund of combat :) Cheers, great job on explaination!

      You're absolutely correct. It's tough for me to get every rule right, as I do all my videos unscripted and in one take. I end up making a few mistakes, but I feel that approach creates a more personal feel. Thanks for catching my goof. And thanks for watching!

    Another stellar tutorial! Thank you! I really like your no clutter approach to teaching games. Everything is shown in logical order , and all the little ambiguous rules are clearly shown. I will keep coming back to this video to reference and review each time before we bring this "monster" to the table . Thanks for the great work and shoutout! You are too kind sir. What you described is exactly why I started this channel (initially intended just for my game group). I wanted my friends to be able to learn a game ahead of time, so when they arrived for game night, we could jump right into the fun. Hence the title, "Get Ready for Game Night." A few other people stumbled across the channel and seemed to like it, and they told their friends... and here we are. I actually like the fact that I'm still pretty much an "unknown" on UA-cam and in the board game industry. That's what allows me to do requests and have actual conversations with subscribers :) Not very likely you'll me do a playthrough of this game. I've tried do to playthroughs in the past... those videos don't get as much traction as the instructional videos. And it would be weird playing both sides of the hunt. Plus, I don't own the game. I had to borrow it from an acquaintance for the purposes of making this video. Sorry! I greatly appreciate the comments though. That's the kind of stuff that keeps me motivated to make more videos. Thanks!

    Thanks a lot for this (your mic wasn't the best but it's OK). What happens if more than one hunter face off Dracula in a lair stacked with multiple encounters? Do they "spread" somehow among hunters or one of them (chosen by Dracula) just takes them all?

    Quick question. I have the fourth edition of the game. The rules state that the hunters have a hand limit of three cards of each type, but the character cards all have the number 4 printed for each. I'm I missing something or is this a typo.?

    • @GetReadyforGameNight
      @GetReadyforGameNight  5 років тому +5

      Great Question. I have only ever seen the 3rd edition, but a little digging around the internet let me discover that Seward's hand limit was accidentally copied onto the other three hunters in 4th edition. WizKids (the publisher) has acknowledged it is a misprint. So Seward's hand limit is 4, the other hunter's hand limit it 3. Good catch! and thanks for watching!

    • @Shonuff703
      @Shonuff703 4 роки тому +1

      Denu22.. There was a misprint in the fourth edition. Only Jon Seward has a hand limit of 4 all others only have 3. Check your event cards as well they are supposed to have the same color backing and not two different colors. If so, you need to contact WizKids to get replacement event cards

    • @lelandcheng7390
      @lelandcheng7390 4 роки тому

      Unfortunately I picked up the misprinted fourth edition from WizKids, and they no longer have the license for the game. So they don’t make the correction pack that would have included the reprinted event cards (which should have Dracula event cards that are the same color background as the Hunter event cards, but in the current fourth edition the Dracula cards have a red background), and the stickers that were to show the corrected hand size of 3 for the non-Dr Seward character boards. Really unfortunate that the WizKids printing was not done correctly in the first place. It have the nice painted minis though. I found that using clear card sleeves with black border edges fixed the issue with the red-backed Dracula event cards.

    Thanks for the tutorial! I need to ask about the fight with Dracula - since the hunters can only travel during day, it is only possible that when one reaches the city which Dracula resides in currently, the Dracula player have to declare it, do they have to search or can they do something like equip or rest before encountering Dracula? Also, that means they will engage Dracula at Dusk right? Can they wait until they wait out until night and rest again or restock and then choose to encounter Dracula after the night phase and engage him at Dawn (which is to the hunters' advantage)? Thanks

    I just bought the 4th edition... First time playing it... And love it. There are just a few confusing things needing clarification... Was hoping you... Or someone else skilled in the game... Could help.
    1. During gameplay it didn't really show it, but I'm assuming that you continue to draw item cards even though you are at maximum in your hand. Do you draw more, and then discard the one you don't want?
    2. So just to clarify, as Dracula, you can play as many event cards as you want during each night phase?
    3. Somewhere I read that you can recover damaged points at Castle Dracula. How can this be done without giving away your location?
    4. When we first played I thought you can only use the power cards one time, but it looks like you use them more than once. When they fall off the trail, I'm assuming they go back in your hand then and can be reused?
    5. During combat, when Dracula plays a card that says that the hunter will suffer two more damage unless they produce a certain weapon card, Etc, so my question is if they produce the card to save from suffering two more damage, is that weapon card then discarded?
    6. Lastly, when you escape during combat, do you stay at that location or do you move elsewhere? Or do you not move elsewhere until it's night time and you play a location card?
    I appreciate any clarification you can provide, I'll absolutely love this game. I'm kind of glad I waited until the 4th edition, I've had this on pre-order since June. Well worth the wait, as they really improved on the quality in the game. Not just with the painted miniatures, but I understand a lot of other pieces of the game have improved in quality as well. Especially over the second edition.

      1. During gameplay it didn't really show it, but I'm assuming that you continue to draw item cards even though you are at maximum in your hand. Do you draw more, and then discard the one you don't want?
      Correct. You may draw above your hand limit, but you must immediately discard back down to your hand limit as soon as you have more cards than you are allowed.
      2. So just to clarify, as Dracula, you can play as many event cards as you want during each night phase?
      Yes. This is also true for every player. You can play as many event cards as you like, as long as the timing restraints printed on the card itself are followed.
      3. Somewhere I read that you can recover damaged points at Castle Dracula. How can this be done without giving away your location?
      You cannot. That is the trade off for regaining 5 damage points. You let the hunter players know where you are.
      4. When we first played I thought you can only use the power cards one time, but it looks like you use them more than once. When they fall off the trail, I'm assuming they go back in your hand then and can be reused?
      Yes. When power cards slide off the trail, you add them back to the deck of location cards immediately, and they can be used again.
      5. During combat, when Dracula plays a card that says that the hunter will suffer two more damage unless they produce a certain weapon card, Etc, so my question is if they produce the card to save from suffering two more damage, is that weapon card then discarded?
      Can you tell me which specific card you are referencing? I can't seem to find any combat card that has anything like this. The "Wolves" event card has something like this, where each hunter suffers 4 damage, but that damage can be reduced by 2 for each revealed weapon card. In this case, the revealed weapon cards are NOT discarded and are returned to the player's hand. Generally, "producing" a card does not mean it is discarded.
      6. Lastly, when you escape during combat, do you stay at that location or do you move elsewhere? Or do you not move elsewhere until it's night time and you play a location card?
      If you escape by using the "Escape as Bat" card, you may clear your current hideout and secretly choose a location up to two roads away, placing that location card face down, along with the face up "Escape as bat" card, in the current hideout. Otherwise, you remain in that location, moving (by placing a new location card) at the next Dracula phase.
      Hope that helps!

    • @M-Capone
      @M-Capone 5 років тому +1

      @@GetReadyforGameNight Awesome... That helps. As for the combat card, it is on the card that you place on your location. So when a hunter stumbles upon your hideout, it says they suffer 2 damage, and suffer 2 more unless they produce a specific weapon card.

    • @GetReadyforGameNight

      @@M-Capone Hmmm... This is tough since I don't own the game (I borrowed it for the video) and I can't find any cards like that when I search the internet. The closest I can find is the card "Rats", which reads...
      "The Hunter suffers 2 damage. Return this card face up to this hideout unless the hunter reveals a 'pistol' or 'rifle'" If that is the card you mean, then the hunter does not immediately suffer 2 MORE damage, you simply know going forward that you will suffer it every time you go to that city, re-triggering the encounter. But the card is discarded normally if the hunter REVEALS (not discards) either a pistol or rifle.
      Hope that helps :) And thank you so much for the questions and for watching!

    at around 7:20 you mention adjacent as being road or railway, but only road is adjacent, railway is not adjacent.
    "If two cities are connected by one road, they are adjacent. In the diagram, the two large cities are not adjacent to each other, but are both adjacent to the small city. Each railway connects one city to another city. Hunters can use railways to move greater distances or between cities that are not adjacent."
    Event card timing text doesn't need to be read out loud, you just need to read it to see if it says immediately.

If dracula uses a power card (like "feed" for example) does he put it on top of his current location or slide the trail down then put the power card in the first spot. Great video. I have one question about the lair slots. When a location card moves to a lair slot does the encounter card become mature? You seemed to imply that Dracula can only use the basic ambush ability from a lair slot. I'm I missing something?

    • @GetReadyforGameNight
      @GetReadyforGameNight  5 років тому +2

      No, the encounter does not mature when a hideout becomes a lair. From the rule book...
      "Instead of maturing a hideout, Dracula may convert a hideout to a lair by placing it on one of the three lair slots on the side of the board. If a hideout contains a sea location, it cannot be converted to a lair. When a hideout becomes a lair, Dracula places an encounter card from his hand on the lair. As such, a lair can have multiple encounter cards on it. When Dracula moves during future phases, he can move to a lair by placing that lair on the first space of the trail, converting it back to a hideout-to do this, Dracula must be able to move to the location in that lair following normal Lair Slots movement restrictions. When Dracula places the lair on the trail, he still places another encounter card on that space as if he had placed a location card from the location deck.
      Dracula may clear a lair at any time, and he must clear a lair if all encounter cards are removed from that lair."
      Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

      Ha! I have been told a few times that my voice sounds like Nicholas Cage. I am definitely NOT Nicholas Cage or any other famous person. Thanks for watching!

    Doesn't matter, but can't help being curious why so many people say "Lord GOLD-a-ming". The "L" is very clearly after the "D". It's "go-DAL-ming". Just intellectual curiosity.

      If you look at the other comments, you’ll see that you’re not the only person to catch this mistake that I made. I don’t know why I (or the other people to mispronounce it) do it. It just naturally comes out that way for me. Sorry if it was a distraction! And thanks for watching!

      @@GetReadyforGameNight Not really a distraction. I watched Wil Wheaton's Tabletop episode with this game and one of his players did same. Probably similar brain reason why I sometimes type so fast that I reverse 2 letters in a word. A lot of words that end with "ion" I type as "ino" when I'm trying to go fast. Ok brain researchers, get on it!

    Go-dal-ming. Not Gold-a-ming. I have no idea what it is that causes people to get this wrong all the time.

      I just keep calling him Godalmighty in my head. Which doesn't help either.

    It's Godalming not Goldaming. I may be the only person still living who's read the book.

      Hello. Still living here and I've read the book three times. Saying "Goldaming" instead of "Godalming" is light compared to those who "Stroker" instead of "Stoker".

      :) Read it several times, highly recommend the book. For a shorter and amusing recap of the story there's a podcast called Fictional. It has Dracula and loads of other literature on it.
