First edition FURY OF DRACULA is one of my all-time favourite games, and one of the few that has survived every household cull over the years. It's sitting on a shelf to my left right now.
It's a shame Hand doesn't want to talk about his time at GW. I hope he understands the impact he had on the scene, and how much of an influence his work had on people like me who would go on to work in games. There are mechanics of his, in CW and FoD particularly, that I still admire and draw on for inspiration.

Never knew this even existed. I wish they would get back to making more games like this. I guess the tiny plastic space toys make to much money haha.

This is one of those games that I remember looking at in the model shop once in a while, didn’t realise how many editions there been. Excellent video as always Jordan.

    Such a shame we never got that GW Frankenstein game. Fortunatly the "Abomination: the heir of Frankenstein" game exists. While not silly it has all the good bits like getting parts from several locations, including murder and boddy parts rotting before you can use them;

Frankenstein clearly evolved into Oi! Dat's My Leg!
I'm moving my copy next to my copies of The Fury of Dracula and Curse of the Mummy's Tomb. The trilogy is complete! 🙂

As always, excellent research and great presentation - thank you, Jordan. I've been eyeing up Fury of Dracula as an addition to my higher-player-count boardgames for a while, but had no idea it was anything to do with GW!

Our group hated this game so much we re named it ‘The Futility of Dracula’. We still laugh about a game that went on for about 4 hours and we weren’t any closer to finishing. Is Dracula at sea? No. Is he in France? No? ….

idk if it was just a design philosophy that was in fashion at the time but the "Both players choose an attacking move secretly then reveal" was of course in Dungeonquest, also by GW around this time. The art style and slightly wonky print alignment is definitely a bit familiar. Great video as always!

    • @Joth4851

It was a common rule in many boardgames at the time. Dungeonquest was a translation of a swedish game called "Drakborgen" (dragon keep) so the two games were made by entirely different creators.

I think that there are very few people who even know that this game existed...
But i think that only one could research and make an entire historical video about it ❤❤❤❤.

Really interesting, your work of research is always complete and you provide lot of information, and you are never boring, you really know how to interest people, great speech and acting in front of camera.
And by the way, i think that you are a handsome man, and this is not a bad thing too in my opinion 😊.

Awesome video, Jordan. This one was a missed opportunity for me, I saw Fury of Dracula advertised in Dragon and similar, but just never bought a copy. That's the magic of your videos though, you manage to make me wistful over games I've no experience with!
And while I doubt this is legal, I'd pay actual money to see your reskin of this game as Fury of Drachenfels.

Some of these old school games really are like time machines, get them out on the table and you’re instantly transported back to another era!
I’ve got to say, although I’ve got a lot of stuff planned for the foreseeable, a Fury of Drachenfels feels like a VERY fun project!

19:35 4th edition did change some rules. It made Misdirect no longer playable on sea locations (honestly a pretty significant change.) as well as tweaking the wording on cards to be more clear.

@jordansorcery that would be amazing! As well as being a great game to play, I think the game has had an uderatted impact on the wider board gaming community. As it was the precursor to Eric Lang's massively popular trilogy of Blood Rage, Rising Sun, and Ankh.

This sounds right up my alley! I used to have a TSR-published Dracula micro game with a folding board and cardboard counters (best part was the Erol Otus art).
Fury of Dracula though, reminds me a lot in description of a shareware DOS game I recall playing a lot as a kid, Dracula in London. The main difference being it follows the events of the novel (though randomized) and you can play all six hunters from the book. Spoilers, it would be rather hard to play Quincey in 1898... anyway, not saying the two are at all related, just that the DOS game filled many an afternoon when I was younger.

@@jordansorcery Ah, nice. I know more about GB, but they're very similar games re: systems. I enjoy how simple it is as an RPG, but there's some flaws in the weird hybrid HP/MP/XP system. I've actually thought of tweaking it to adapt it to other settings.

Blimey, I didn't know this game has become such a legend. Impressive! 😃
Fury of Drachenfels sounds epic. So many options. Detlef Sierck & Genevieve dashing about the Old World, also maybe competing against Gotrek Gurnisson and Felix Jaeger. Unbeknowst to all, the incredible Thanquol has many plans a foot, the teams randomly come across them and defeat them, just minor things to the players. Till, nearing the end, if any Thanquol plan survives, things get super crazy.
