She is an icon. RIP🌹
News of her passing hit me hard. Her music brought a smile to my face and joy in my heart whenever I heard her songs over the radio. Thank you for Irene for making my days just a little brighter. I'll miss you and always remember you. Rest in peace Irene Cara.

She was amazing, a gifted singer with Live and Original music. Quoting, "I am Rhythm now", and "Take your passion and make it happen." A beautiful soul, she will be missed. Rest in Peace🕊️. She was a black latina. Her father was a black Puerto Rican and her mother Cuban. Same with Jennifer Beal, her father was also black and her mother white.
That part! Growing up as a kid, I didn't know Irene as anything else but black. And truth be told, "Latina" is a nationality, not an ethnicity. Any race of people can be "Latina" just like anyone can be "American"

before Irene Cara moved from the Bronx she attended St. Anselm (Tinton Ave). I even got to kiss her in third grade (it was only the cheek). But it was not uncommon of her to break out into song in the middle of class. I always followed her career as she was a homegirl so it's sad to see her gone.

I'm writing a book on her life called Cinderella Superstar: Remembering Irene. She did a lot of her performances over her career. Most of which we never saw in the U.S. due to her lawsuit.

@@garynewton1263 My book will be done before they hold the public memorial service in June. Judith, her publicist has mentioned it on Irene's Twitter page. I have not talked with family since most of her family has passed away. Her dad passed away in 1994, her mom passed away in 2010. Even her brothers and sisters have passed. There might be one left but I don't even know where to reach them. Yes, I'd love to hear some personal memories of growing up but I have already watched a documentary on her life and have already written 120 pages. I will keep my ears open of course. Friends of Irene do make comments on UA-cam and I talk to them all the time.
