My step daughter goes into the Crucible tonight. I'm proud of her, she's strong, she's smart and she's fierce. She surprised her mom and I with her decision to join the Marine Corps. It's what I wanted to do but was unable to foe reasons that were unexpected. This young woman left home nearly three months ago and not a day has passed where she was the main thing on my mind. I'm blessed she's in my life and the Corps is lucky to have her. She's my hero. I'm lighting our candle in 2 hours and it'll burn to help guide her back. Two more weeks and I'll get to shake her hand and cry tears of pride. Thank you all of you who've served this country and protected us all who call it home.
I’m 72 years old and I’m a Marine Corps veteran of 30 years service. I’m proud to say that I was in the Engineer Battalion that built the Crucible obstacles. I also had the honor of attending the Eagle, Globe and Anchor Ceremony. I don’t mind saying that there were tears of pride to see these young Marines. Semper Fi, to you and all other Marines worldwide!!!🇺🇸 Oooorah!!
BAWLING like a baby. save your new Marine a bunch of grief. in make no big purchases until he finishes his specialty school. Remind him the only thing on his radar is doing well in his school. He isn't there to find a girl, buy a cell phone or laptop, NONE of that. the locals around him are circling like sharks to take advantage of new Marines loaded with $ and nothing close to wise spending habits. a clock radio and wristwatch are fine. Maybe a good set of running shoes is about it.
My granddaughter starts this in exactly 10 minutes. My candle is in the window and my prayers are with you Vanessa. I love you and am so very proud of you.
My son is doing the crucible as I type this Prayed and cried to God to give him strength and guidance that he will make it cus he never gave up. God bless the USMC
My fiancé is doing the crucible this Thursday I just got his last letter for the week and he says him and all his platoon are ready to take it on. #3058!! Blessings to everyone
My son is in PI right now and is two weeks until the Crucible. We have an awesome group of prayer warriors who have taken up the challenge to keep November Co in prayer the entire 54 hours. Can’t wait to hug my marine next month!
I haven't left for boot yet I will be the first in my family to receive that eagle. I will hold myself to a higher standard physical, mental and emotional. I will achieve greatness. I will not stop.
He said it was rough but he made it. He graduated on April 21st. He was home for a month assisting his recruiter. He just went back last Monday for combat training for a month I think before he goes to Missouri for his MOS
My son is at week 5 of the Bootcamp, every day I pray 🙏 he will graduate in October, but I am already so proud of him because of the effort he makes every day in these hard workouts! God always takes care of him🙏❤
Our son graduated from Boot Camp Bravo Company in October 14th of last year and he said it was very challenging but it takes lots of dedication and courage to complete. SO So proud of our Marine.

I can't tell you how much the Crucible makes you think, and reflect on everything you were physically trained to do I remember waking up at 0200, shivering, freezing, wondering why this had to happen, having our kits on didn't make it better, i then put on my black leather gloves but i was screamed at to take them off, so i stuck with the program until the son rose, waiting for that warmth It wasn't until we recieved our first story telling of a marine who died during combat, giving everything he had to defend his country That's when i reallized everybody else is fighting for the same purpose, so i shoved my weaknesses to the ground and suffered with everyone else, even helping those in need, thus how we ALL earned the title, Marine
My hands were so cold and wind chapped at one point, i couldnt open my MRE in the few minutes we were permitted to eat one day. I tried so hard as my dry knuckles cracked and bled. And then it was time to hit the road again. I was pissed. A boy learned to man up and be a Marine that day
My son left last week to bootcamp in San Diego and I think and pray for his every day and night. I'm so proud of him and cannot wait to call my son a Marine.
My son finished his crucible Wednesday. I could not be more proud. May God bless our armed forces for defending our country annd its people. Serving in the military was a dream I never realized. I praise God for giving me a son who I can support while he realizes his dream of serving his country.
My boyfriend starts the crucible in just over a week. I'm very proud of him. Not a day goes by that me and his family aren't worried half to death for him, but I know if there is a single person left in the world who can do it, it's him. Hoping for all the best for 1065
My son is in week 1 of crucible. I've been praying and sending prayers to him asking the good Lord to provide him good health, wisdom and strength to get through the grueling training. I'm confident he'll be able to get through it. 🙏🏽📖🏥💪🏽⚓️💜
I went through the entire Crucible with a pelvic stress fracture. And i was one of the only Marines in my platoon that didn't puke after the Warrior's Breakfast lol
I joined in 2003 before the war in Iraq started. Went to boot camp September that year. The crucible was the hardest part of boot camp for me. It was so freaking exhausting. They had us do the obstacle course over and over again and every time somebody would fall off, you would have to fireman's carry them around the course. The guy that I was paired up with kept falling off and I don't know how many times I carried his a**around that course. After that, we did about a half mile run over to a simulated down helicopter that had a bunch of equipment in it. We had to take all that equipment and carry it to another location which was miles away. Ever so often, the drill instructions will tell us that one of our guys got injured and we had to carry them. It was pretty miserable and I was so sleep deprived I don't remember a whole lot about it. I just remember it being very miserable, wet and I was so ready to be done with it.
All it makes you do is realize you have another gear to tap into that you never realized. During a marathon run, it's like being exhaused at mile 20 but realizing your will and drive will outlast the slight pain. A little bit of pain for a lifetime of pride. oorah my Marine Corp Nov 1983. 3089, San Diego.
Remember, this is just a phase in boot camp. The real fun begins when you get to your unit, especially of you are a grunt. Running up and down mountains with telephone poles, 5 to 8 mile runs, 25 to 30 mile marches with a pack will become routine and that is just the basics. Of course that was decades ago for me, but I guess it is still the same.
I went in 96 is it just me or was it harder for us back in the day. We didn’t get any EGA or get called Marines until we graduated. I know we didn’t have the crucible we had a two day thing without sleep but I feel we had it rougher just like they guys before us in the 80s had it rougher than us
I’ll never forget. I’ll also never forget my platoon. First battalion 1016. Once I became a Marine I felt it. Nobody will understand the feeling unless they’ve gone through it themselves.
Look at the bright side, you get to do crucible plenty of more times once out in the fleet😂 (if you are infantry). Buddy of mine went straight into the scout sniper unit from SOI. Plenty of more fun training to come.
I remember going through it back in 2001. It's not easy, but if you just keep pushing forward, you'll make it and earn your EGA. Semepr Fi. Stay Salty.
Went to PI as recruit in 87 before the crucible was part of boot camp. Went back in 97 as series commander as a 1stLt which was maybe a year or two after it was implemented. I think it was a great addition to the program of instruction and culmination of transition from recruit to Marine. Even the Navy seemed to agree and developed their own recruit training capstone exercise called “battle stations” as a passing out evolution.
Any old jarheads out there with a better memory than mine? The Marine Corps didn't start calling this the "crucible" until the mid to late 1990's. We had something similar on P.I. (plt182) in 1969, but I can't remember what it was called. Even if it had an official name. I do still have a very clear memory of receiving my EGA. What a moment. Semper Fi Marines.
Bro you are so lame. Trained soldiers can handle the crucible but would get destroyed in a game of football. Football players would outplay any of these soldiers in the video but would more than likely fail the crucible. Marines are cool and I respect all branches of the military but you need to get the military's nuts out your mouth.
One of the only times I cried in bootcamp was when my SDI was handing me my EGA on top of the reaper just as the sun was cresting the hills. Still the most beautiful moment of my life.
Means stress like starvation and sleep exhaustion! Special forces like training. With out picking up rank pick up and go! At 160 lbs you carry about 110 lbs for 56 miles in 48 hours or so. At least in the 20th century.
@MrCyp200la I don't know where you received yout information but we had that 54 hout when I went through Parris Island in 1967! I'm 74 years old now and you never forget your training!

I went in 96 no crucible just super rough and hard. It wasn’t five days either but just two days.
