After Bowie passed I stopped paying attention to new releases unlike before he died I started every day looking up Bowie news. I also stopped buying every thing that was released like before. I feel Bowie's hardcore fans would be best to find & suggest what to release. That might sound crazy but I guarantee after they all got in a room beat each other up over which to release and then hug it out it would be incredible. I was so disappointed over the so called documentary of Moonage Daydream it was like watching a collage of UA-cam videos with Bowie doing a voice over! The director Brett Morgen had access to over 400 hours of Bowie footage, they claimed the film uses previously unreleased footage that's BS! The clueless bought & paid for critics fell over each other praising it. The sound effects that they used for no reason were cringe. Brett had access to five million items, paintings, recordings and journals but what we got was UA-cams best of Bowie. It would be a good film for new fans but as far as I'm concerned it left out Bowie's hardcore fan base,
Without the rough mixes of these great old songs & demos one can't hope to understand or truly appreciate the greatness of the finished product. It also allows for the true David Bowie fans & anyone else that wants to get a glimpse into the creative process of a true musical mastermind. That is what David Bowie is, was & always will be. Long Live David Bowie!!!
I agree totally if you buy the upcoming official non record store day version coming out in June it says on Bowies website they will be different takes and versions I’m looking forward to that one
I'm a Bowie Fan. Like you, maybe I wanted for this LP some rough mixes of the tracks of this album. Like Paul McCartney did recently with "Band on The Run" Underdubbed Mix. In June, there is another LP called "Rock n Roll Star" with alternate takes from Ziggy Stardust sessions. And I hope, this one will be more interesting. Anyway, I take it for my collection.
Thank you for your review. I missed out on this on RSD. I missed 2 more times when they went for sale online (had made purchases then refunded as unavailable) I’ve been diligently searching for a reasonably priced one to purchase and am now so relieved for my bad luck. I am so happy I came across your review. You saved me $$$ and major disappointment. Thanks again 👍
Over the years I've made mistakes when it comes rsd, an have had to sell the records this david bowie would have been one of them mistakes but experience has taught me to stear clear of such a record but for people who did buy it an if they are enjoying it then fair enough but for me its not worth it
Before its release it was already clear that this is a compilation of Ziggy Stardust album tracks plus b-sides and none of these tracks are unreleased. It’s just a representation of an alternate track order which was suggested for the original Ziggy release. Too bad that people are dissapointed after buying the RSD release, they should have gotten themselves better informed beforehand.
Where was this information given? Because not on the record itself or on the official website is this mentioned. This has nothing to do with being better informed because after long googling I can’t even find a statement about it. This release is misleading.
@@top5records796It was stated on the official RSD international website before the release and confirmed by several record stores in their release preview.
That is so true, very well said. People who know the history of the Ziggy Stardust album would know all of the information that you imparted in your comment. Than they would go out & get it or they wouldn't, but I'm sure there would be no complaints.
I wanted it but was sold out at my local stores on RSD. I bought my copies on Discogs for $50 each. I had to have it! I wanted the alternate takes. This guy doing the review does not seem to be a hardcore Bowie fan. Did he not read in advance what was going to be released?!!!
Hi i haven’t listened to it as yet at top of my pile for listening. Im disappointed to hear that you have found the discrepancy in sound quality and its not whst it supposed to be an actual pressing of what they said ot was . Kind regards joe
As a long-time fan ... since I was 15(?) ... and having almost his whole catalog I'd have to agree. Basically, took the master tracks and enhanced (remixed, remastered) them, which is fine but as the cops say, 'nothing to see here folks, move on'. And yes, I will buy it. BTW, for you supposed true audiophiles the best remix/remaster's ... in my view ... are the 2009/2010 individual European/Japanese reissues on Parlophone and the 2015 - [Five Years 1969-1973] 6-CD remastered box-set. Really looking forward to hearing the latest release (6/14/24) "Rock 'N' Roll Star!" 5-CD box-set. A deeper dive into the 1972 "Ziggy Stardust" era, per se.
@@top5records796 Here's the blurb from the RSD 2024 web-site on this release: "The album is taken from the Trident Studios 1/4” stereo tapes dated 15th December 1971, which were created for the then-provisional track listing of what would become THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS album. The track listing for WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) runs differently from the ZIGGY STARDUST album and features four songs that didn’t make the final album." So, it is what it is. Nothing nefarious going on.
It's a rejigged Ziggy Stardust minus a few tracks and a sprinkling of not at all rare "rarities" that most of the people this is aimed at will already have on various formats and releases such as the original singles, the Lifetimes 80s 7" reissues, the Bowie Rare compilation or bonus tracks on the 90s Rykodisc album remasters. No need to do any homework mate. It's an easy pass at RSD prices that offers nothing of real interest.

I’m afraid I can’t rip… Sorry!

Can’t wait to hear that. Love that album!
Guess, I will leave it in the shrink wrap for now😂
