This was a great eclectic list. I really need to listen to Mark Knopfler again and the Empire of the Sun- i didnt know they released an album this year. Great year for music! The Lemon Twigs- "A Dream is All We Know" 6. Aquilus- "Bellum II" 7. Caligula's Horse- "Charcoal Grace" 8. Kacey Musgraves- "Deeper Well" 9. Vampire Weekend- "Only God Was Above Us" 10. Zach Bryan- "The Great American Bar Scene" 11. Fontaines D.C.- "Romance" 12. Arooj Aftab- "Night Reign" 13. Imminence- "The Black" 14. The Cure- "Songs Of A Lost World" 15. Benjamin Francis Leftwich- "Some Things Break" 16. The Black Crowes- "Happiness Bastards" 17. Dangermuffin- "Dangermuffin" 18. Alcest- "Le Chants de l'Aurore" 19. I'd agree that Thee Sacred Souls probably have the best *sounding* album of the year. My concern was only that it might have been *too* faithful to the original inspirations. Not sure what was added. It's probably a great intro to the sound, but I kept wondering to myself 'this is great, but why am I not listening to the original Philly soul artists?' Reminded me of the "Meet the Smithereens" album (a great band in their own right), which was a very faithful 'tribute' to "Meet the Beatles".
Ha! That’s an interesting thought. I do t generally keep records I don’t like, but I certainly have some just to complete a discography. That could be an interesting video idea for the new year. Thanks for the idea!
Great video, thanks! Checking out Karate Boogaloo now.
