    I saw David Bowie in October of 1972. The venue had seating for 3000 people, there were 900 people there. I say this only to illustrate just how far Mr. Bowie would rise. Comprehensive review, Brendon. I'm glad you said something about the original album not being included. I mean so often the point of these box sets is to get the original remastered bringing out new sounds and highlights. Oh well. Still, all in all sounds like an interesting release.

    I think this box set is great! Just like the last "Divine Symmetry" one. I already had most of the BBC radio stuff, because I have the "Bowie At The Beeb" 2 CD set. But if you don't have that, it makes the new box set even better. I love CD 5, with the alternate studio performances and outtakes. And the main book is really nice. If you love the "Ziggy Stardust" album, I highly recommend this "Rock 'N' Roll Star!" box set. And "Divine Symmetry", if you love "Hunky Dory".

    Looks great. A good amount of unreleased stuff. What I would be after is the Berlin era box set. Judging by the timeline of these box sets that would be another 5 years away.

    That's a nice collection - I do like that it doesn't actually have a copy of the source album! I mean, yeah, for a completionists sake, it would be cool to have. But considering you're likely only buying this if you already own a copy, it's nice that they skipped it unless there was some brand new remaster or something.

    Do you not, more or less, get the original mix of the album plus, a 5.1 mix on the Blu ray? Also, the fact-sheet CAN be slid into the box with everything else too!

    The album proper of Ziggy Stardust is in the box on the Blu-ray disc. So it is in the box just not on CD.

      Yes I did say that. By the point I made was it wasn’t duplicated on CD which I already own several copies of.

    Great stuff. Thanks.
    Is this getting a bit past the most desirable time of 'history'' to release?
    As a whole, not of enough interest for some of the include material, and have no room.
    Because back in the day....not as long ago a Ziggy,
    If there was an expanded 'Scary Monsters'..." , I'd go for it.
    And the ONLY 7-in single I have now is (found not long ago..) 'Putting Out The Fire'

    What a beautiful set. Brendon, several times you held up the 2-CD Deluxe version of Ziggy of which I am also a proud owner 😀. Forgive me if you mentioned it, but are all of the songs from Disc 2 of this set included in the new Rock And Roll Star box?

      No I didn’t say and I honestly haven’t done a close comparison but yes I think they all appear in the boxset.

    thanks Brendon. On the fence on this as it is expensive ... £150 in the UK. So £30 per CD. I know there are a couple of books but even so. Don't see the point of the blue ray

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 місяці тому +2

      I’m not a fan of the BluRay Audio discs as well. But if you have the right set up with your BluRay player and stereo equipment then listening to BluRay audio is supposed to sound better. And of they include stuff on the BluRay Audio that’s not on the CDs but that always pisses me off. I lucked out that here in the US I got the boxset for $105 US dollars and free shipping. So for me it was worth it. But it really is something for diehards anyway and is not something that must be in everyone’s collection even though it’s from such a classic album. If you decide to get it, I hope you find it at a better price.

    I am a Bowie Fan and CD collector. But I’m not buying this set, at least not until it is available under 100 Euro. I own all Box sets (Five Years, Who can I be now?, A new career in an new town, Loving the Alien, Brilliant Adventure, Conversation piece, The With of a circle, Toy). Looks like I already have more than half of the tracks, making it way too expensive.

      It’s my pleasure and that is exactly what I hoped for. I never wanted to assume the only people who would watch would be diehard musicologist like myself. For me the idea has always been to share my knowledge with others and help them learn more about their favorite bands and artists. I’m glad to hear you have been enjoying the added info.

    No a fan of This artist but as usual you do a great job describing the box set and background. Who owns Bowie’s catalog and continue to release new boxes set 8 years after his death?

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 місяці тому +1

      David Bowie was one of the first to sell his music catalogue back in the 90’s. I don’t know who owns it today, but they’re making a killing on it I’m sure.

    • @arto2533
      @arto2533 3 місяці тому +1

      Before he died, Bowie made a very detailed "will" for how he wanted his back catalog and archival stuff released and issued after his passing. Time frames and all. So presumably these lavished super deep diving boxes were also his idea. But who knows how much the men in suits have actually considered any of his wishes.

    Bonjour de la France brendon, je pense que ce genre de coffret, c'est plus de lecture que de musiques. Moi, j'aurais préféré un petit coffret regroupant les 5 cds et le blu-ray avec un petit livret, c'est largement suffisant. Quand tu achètes ce genre de coffret super deluxe qui coûte très cher , c'est à cause des 2 livres , de la boîte et non pas à cause des cds et du blu-ray 😂
    Bon dimanche brendon 😊

    I never buy box sets that include BluRay discs.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 місяці тому

      That seems like a silly rule. Why miss out on all the CD content just because a BluRay was included. It’s not like they will sell it another way. I think at 5 CDs it’s still a great value. I personally could never skip something from a band I like for a rule as simple as because it includes a format I don’t like. I do skip boxsets that include multiple formats of an album like including both CD and Vinyl but only if I can get all that I want on a 2 CD edition like the way The Rolling Stones do it. But sometimes I have to shell out because there is more content I want that isn’t on the edited down 2 CD edition. In this case with Bowie there is no 2 CD edition. Although there is an edited version on LP. Maybe that would be more your speed as no BluRay is included.
