I remember when this song came out. I couldn’t imagine life in 1999! It was like 17 years in the future and I was about 15 at the time. When 1999 finally got here, I had 2 kids so there was no partying for me! What great memories!

Every new computer had a Y2K-complaint sticker on it starting around the mid-90s.

On New Year's Day of 1999, the hit local radio station played this song back-to-back for 24 hours straight... it was genius. You could listen to it a couple of times in a row... then hours later, return to that radio station to listen to it any time you wanted. In 1982 this was not a concern. There were no PCs as we know them and records were kept on paper in filing cabinets. The big Super Computers didn't rely much on date driven information. It wasn't until the mid to late 1990s that this became an issue because spreadsheets and mainframe software couldn't correctly process dates beyond 1999. The funny thing is that many of the things people thought would stop working didn't use dates at all in their function.
