    Remember the opening of 1999?

I only want you to have some fun”.

You can see why Freddie was a Prince fan! He would make his friends watch Purple Rain on tape when chillin’ at home! You know, it takes a legend to know a legend!! LITTLE RED CORVETTE (live acoustic version). Amazing! 🚗💨

Yeah, we all thought about what 1999 and 2000 would be like. It was major, the turn of a century and all. There was more excitement before Y2K fears became part of the mix. You can bet that this was played at every New Year's Eve party on Dec. 31st, 1999. And probably the year before too ;) Prince was so crazy talented.

When This was a hit when I was 12 tears old in 83 or something I thought 1999 was soooooo far away. Light years. Prince would be an old man. Well 99 came and went. Now soon to be 25 years ago. Sick how fast the years go by, but. BUT. People aren’t here to stay. Mike Jackson gone. Prince gone, Soooo many others died before they were 50 or 60. Time continues to pass relentlessly. People die all the time but the clock never takes a single pause.

"There's a war all around us, my mind says prepare to fight" "Every bodies got a bomb, we can all die any day." This is sincerely why us Prince fans never compare him to any other artist that existed. Prince could write a deep, dark message to humanity & make you dance to it in a joyful bliss. Yet in that dark message was always a message of love & that if we all spread more love, we could stop so much of the pain in this world together. Prince was deeper than "pop" music, he was sent here for a message to humanity. It's funny too, because 1999 isn't even a Prince song i play often. The same lyrics he sung on here could be applied to all the fears of humanity in 2022. Prince can get even wilder when you hear songs like "New World" or "The War" Now if you play those tracks, that's heading down the rabbit hole lol. If you're reading this, give love to a stranger or a person that deserves it & really needs it. Don't be fooled by a political war. There was never a reason to fight since the first war of man. ❣

It’s interesting seeing the reactions here. I grew up close to Paisley Park and to most people around there he will always be a neighbor as well as a kick butt artist.

Prince released this in 1982. He wrote it as a reaction to a documentary that he and his friends were watching about what would happen in the year 1999. He said the doc was about nuclear armaggedon and financial collapse and he was surprised that his usually optimistic freinds were taken in by it and were convinced that the documentaries proclamations would come true. So he wrote this as an upbeat reaction to that.

Not exactly, it was a documentary about Nostradamus and millenarist fears. Nostradamus was really trendy in the early 80's.
BTW, Prince already wrote a song about risks of nuclear war with USSR : Ronnie Talk To Russia on the Controversy album.

I'm a massive Prince fan & 1999 was the year I turned 21. I was beyond excited to get to have my first big new year's celebration out in the clubs. We all felt so alive that night, wondering if there was something to all the fear & conspiracy theories about that fateful night 💜 Life flies by indeed.

This came out mid 80’s when 1999 was so far away! We couldn’t imagine what that would be like- and would we be driving flying cars, would the world end, would we every really be older and boring- nah! So yeh, this was a huge concept of what would 2000 be like.

There's something special in those extremely highs and lows in Prince's voice that's very appealing. A huge amount of talent and sex appeal in a pretty small body for a man :-)
And, when mentioning his falsetto, please consider reacting to an official video of "Kiss" or "When Doves Cry"..

Dez Dickerson's bandana represents the imperial Japan flag during WWII. The symbolism is pretty obvious because it's a song that talks about war.
Afro Samurai's bandana is a bit different because there are kanji on it and it relates simply to the fact he's a samurai.
In some ways the Y2K bug has happened because the Dot-Com bubble exploded in March... 2000. This event has been quite detrimental, but it financially shaped today's technological landscape.

That was insanely crazy. You can't resist and you just have to jam along. Haha, and I was blown away by that sound explosion at the beginning too💥, but I don't give a damn about age when it comes to music - it's timeless - music has no age!
Your memories have served you well in predicting the crash and many other doomsday scenarios. Great and funny reaction HAP 🥰🙋🏻‍♀️.

Y2K .... A lot of worry over nothing. I had a "Pre Jobs Return" Mac and for the entire Year 2000, I had to manually set my computer's clock-- on the first day of 2001, the Mac automatically recorded the correct date! The thing just had a hard time with the Millenial year zero! Go figure!

There was no collapse because there were though people hired to recode stuff. Had a friend that had a sister that made a bundle recoding and then couldn’t get a job after 2000.

used to be that when you got to the end of a software program the way to show you were done was 999. They were afraid that when 1999 hit it would make the computers just stop running all software. I thought it was interesting that everybody acted like the year 2000 was the critical point, but it would have actually been when the calendar rolled over to 1999. Anyway, they started fixing way before 2000 so there was really no effect that we were aware of.

Great reaction as always, HAP! Y2K was a huge deal but they had plenty of time to thwart the problem, hence no problem...but we still prepared for it. Stocked up on necessities and kept cash on hand in case the banks were shut down. All for not, thankfully. Better safe than sorry! Thanks, HAP!

This was at the height of the cold war, and the threat of mutually assured destruction via nuclear weapons.
