Some of the basic Iceland products are really excellent for what they are, great for people on a budget. Doesn’t take a lot of effort to pair with some tasty, inexpensive sides and you’ve got a hearty meal for not much money 🙂
Although the pie was shop bought, this was still lovely to watch and a great idea. The idea of separating the potato from its skin and using both in 2 ways was fantastic and offers 2 completely different taste profiles. I am not sure about the pie itself just for my own personal taste, but I will defintely be trying the 2-tone potato idea. This is currently the last video in this "Under £1" Playlist and I really did enjoy this series of videos. The cost cutting home cooking idea for videos was genius and shows diversity within your channel which I love. Thank you for highlighting food on a budget. This will help so many people.
Thanks again Gary. I think when you’re on a budget it’s easy to get stuck in a rut of the same old same old, so hopefully little ideas of how simple twists can be made just to give something a little different are helpful 🙂
Looks tasty. I might have to try the mash done that way. I have done loaded baked potatoes, twice cooked with cheese or cheese and bacon bits. Got some cooking bacon from Sainsbury's today, £1 and to be honest I unpacked it and they were complete rashers and just a few bits. You beat me with the carrots. Mine were 19p. Lots of veggies reduced due to the Easter holidays. Bought some frozen samosas, ten small ones for £2. Really tasty. Potatoes, carrots and peas. No nasty additives. So that was my meal this evening with mango chutney, lime pickle and mint yoghurt. Pastry was lovely. 18 minutes from frozen. 👍 I think you did a good job fancying that meal up. Worth it.
@@GreenoEats Isn't it just. I will make a bacon butty tomorrow with some of the full slices. The proper bits are in the freezer for another day. I reckon I could make 8 bacon butties from the amount I got. I may even try the bacon on a hot cross bun. 6 freshly baked ones for £1 at Sainsburys today. I used to take a hot cross bun with cheddar cheese on to work when they were in season. Like having Christmas cake with stilton. Anyway let's see what you come up with next Tuesday. 👍
I'm just about to tuck into one of these pies with mash, sprouts, carrots, peas and the thickest gravy ever. I think they're lovely and great value. 👍. x
Yeah, really simple meal to make, with just a couple of little twists to make it tastier. I often add stuff to mash, be it mustard, horseradish, cheese or garlic, just to give it a bit more flavour.
Not sure on the quality of the pie for that price but it does prove it is possible to have affordable meat and veg instead of junk food 👍 It wouldn’t cost much more per portion to make meals from scratch (e.g shepherds pie) which is cheaper than junk food and healthier 👏
Brilliant meal for that price. Great idea doing a jacket potato for the mash, haven't even thought of doing that TBH. Over 60s get 10% off if they have a bonus card and shop in Iceland on a Tuesday so the meal would be 5p cheaper!
Using a jacket potato for mash is something that I first heard about from Anthony Worrall Thompson, remember him? Of course it’s much better if you do that, then add heaps of butter and cream 😀 I didn’t know about the over 60s discount in Iceland, I’ll have to drag my old man along next time I want to give there then !
I think you may start to struggle with the £1 series unless you start to bulk cook and freeze. I feel sure you could do Spaghetti Bolognese and chilli con carne bulk cooking....just a thought
I’m really impressed with these budget meal videos Greeno, I don’t have an Iceland all that close to me but I did however have to meet my sister in the the nearest city a few weeks ago and got some bits from Iceland and I so nearly picked those pies up 🥧🙈 that looked fantastic and all under £1! Those potato skins looked ace, looked and sounded like a favourite of mine…. Pork scratchings! I will admit I don’t have an air fryer but I’m certainly on the look out for one , should have got one ages ago. Top video Greeno ….Smithy
Maybe I should call them potato scratchings 🙂 Get yourself an air fryer fella, it's a game changer! Thanks for the positive comments as always, currently getting wet watching the Cherries!

I certainly did Nigel - in fact the packaging even had airfry instructions alongside the normal oven instructions!
