As a country music fan, I can agree. The old stuff was the best, and few artists today can replicate that sound. As Waylon said, with a song about the state of country music: Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way.
Hank was known to play electric guitars at gigs, and there are one or two pictures floating around of him playing one, but they were taken around 1951 or early 1952. That Masco amp would have been the band amp, purchased by Hank's mother Lillie, when she was still managing the Drifting Cowboys, and when Hank and the Drifting Cowboys were still playing on WSFA in Montgomery, Alabama, somewhere between 1943 and 1945. Audrey took over managing duties afterward. There may be one or two WSFA publicity photos that have that amp in it, but I'm not sure

From what I've heard you should never just plug in an old amp like that without looking at the caps. Like he said, they leak and don't work as they're supposed to and can mess up the entire amp circuit
Scotty Moore's guitar is worth $500k (multiple auction records 10 years ago, not the one that Elvis borrowed; he traded that for a tractor and it's at the Rock n Roll hof I think.) Scotty's biggest claim to fame is working for Elvis and this amp supposedly belonged to Hank Williams. I think $450k is not unreasonable to ask, but $200 is generous without proof. I'd offer $50 and I'm taking a risk. I sat on an old tube oscilloscope for years and only got $80.
Glad to see I was pretty spot on with my value assessment of the amp. When he first said he wanted $450,000 I thought "ummm, even if it IS Hank Williams's amp it's closer to 45 thousand, not 450." People just love to imagine the world being miraculously in their favor, don't they? 🤦♂️

I'm no expert guitar player but I know enough that I knew it was old enough to be a tube Amp. Everything now is mostly solid state. Tube amps do sound nice when the tubes warm up. Replacement tubes for the old amps are a problems though. I have a old 50 watt that I'll never find tubes for.

BF amps probably didn’t use exotic stuff. Replacing old capacitors is a good idea. I watched a Fisher amp eat several power tubes before I figured out there was a primary cause and burnt tubes were only a symptom.
I am astonished that people bring treasured items 1000's of miles to a pawn shop in the middle of a desert, in a city famous not for culture or brains, to get robbed by a pawn shop owner.
