      No kidding! I figured about 6000 video clips, and on the photo side, (not used so much in the videos, but still a task for me), about 6100 photos. Processing all the media and data post-hike was a lot more work that I ever imagined. But pretty glad to be done with it now and very glad you enjoyed it!

All the work you put into the shots, the commentary and humor, the information, the music, the editing, the people... showing the emotions towards the final days... the Contra ending... I will be constantly referring back to this and your site in the near future. Thank you and congratulations!

      So Katie ended up meeting up with Magoo and hiking the rest of the way to Waterton from St. Marys. So that cut off some miles and two or three passes I believe. She got clobbered with the snow and they spent a day at the Goat Haunt ranger station drying out their gear. But she finished at Waterton. Hopeful ended up bailing out of the mountains at St. Marys. Such a wonderful series that I will revisit. What can you tell us about Hopeful and Katie? I hope you can make it back another time to do the route through Glacier.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  5 років тому +1

      You are lucky to have driven through the area hundred of times! I feel like I barely got a glimpse of Glacier and it was awe-inspiring. I really do hope to do the highline trail. Who knows, maybe I'll do it this fall, and finish in September with the 2019 thru hikers. I think that could be really special. Maybe even get Katie and Hopeful in on this. You've got me thinking now!

    I just finished watching every single episode mate. It was amazing and inspiring. I agree with Yuri, I can not understand how you have such a low sub count. I guess young people today are too fixated on their game paddles :( There are very few things left in this regulated world that young people can do today that will mold them, strengthen their resolve and self-reliance , and give them a true feeling of accomplishment that will last them their lifetime ... you my friend are one of the rare ones who's done just that.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  3 роки тому

      I appreciate you taking the time to watch it all! You know, these trails are more popular than they have ever been, and there are a good amount of younger people out there. Almost certainly more than a few decades ago, just because so many more people are getting into long distance backpacking in general. I would say the biggest demographic is under 30, college age or post college. And it's a great thing, everyone who does it comes out a better person. So the more people who take up these kind of challenges, the better we are as a people, I think.

      It's weird, isn't it? Not at all what I thought I'd feel at the end and afterwards. But for me, ending the way I did and missing out on the Highline Trail and Waterton really hurt after walking all that way. So, I'm heading out there to hike the Highline Trail to Waterton in a few weeks and get my proper finish. Maybe it will bring a little peace and closure. Anyways. @@SeekingLost One question: What did you do for food storage in bear country? I've always hung food when backpacking in Yellowstone and Glacier (and even the Gila), but I don't think you mentioned it. BTW- I also live in Salida CO half of the year (that's my real hometown): glad you enjoyed your stay there.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  2 роки тому

      Dang, splitting the year between the gila and Salida, that's a great way to do it! I use opsaks (odor proof bags)for food storage. I know a lot of hikers talk shit about them, but I've been using them for about 12 years now and they have always kept animals away from my food. I camped at Eldorado lake once in the San Juan's, there was a field with several 100s of mice running around, I put my food in an OPsack and placed it on top of a rock that mice were running on, they didn't touch it all night. I was a believer after that and they have never let me down. The only time I hung food on the CDT was in Yellowstone, because they had Something for us to hang from!

    Fantastic series. A ‘normal’ guy made a great work of art. There is something powerful in your (or Dixie’s or Darwins) hiking vids. I hope you didn’t have too much problems fitting into a ‘normal’ life again. Or maybe it inspired you to choose a different direction. Anyway, hope to see more of your adventures in the future.

    • @SeekingLost
      @SeekingLost  5 років тому +2

      Thanks, really appreciate that! Life is complicated right now(but not in a bad way), still haven't chosen a path yet. I severed ties with my old "normal life" and now living in this temporary state in between the CDT and the next chapter. It's been nice to have the time needed to focus on a few projects, like editing all these CDT videos. But I'm ready to move on to something else and I hope it's more fun than working in a cube. I am doing everything I can to avoid going back to that life, but at least it's a fallback.

    • @horizontaal
      @horizontaal 5 років тому +2

      Ha, yes, that cube...
      It sounds familiar. When I finished highschool I made a long bikepacking trip in Scandinavia. After that - well, maybe before that too - I knew I wouldn’t fit in a cage. I wanted to be a travel journalist. So I studied journalism and sneaked my way into the biggest travel publisher. I started writing about cars and politics - somebody had to - but soon I had enough contacts with the travel magazines to leave the company and start as a freelance travel journalist. For eighteen years now that’s my job.
      I’m not going to tell you that you should try journalism, but just follow you passion. If you can do the CDT you can make a success of anything you want.

      That's an awesome story, thanks for sharing that! Man that is so cool, so glad that worked out for you. You're right about that mindset though, and that's what I tell myself... if I can walk 3000 miles I can do anything! I just have to choose WHAT haha. I've got a couple ideas in the works though.
      So I've gotta ask... 18 years as a travel journalist... what are your favorite places you've been?

    • @horizontaal
      @horizontaal 5 років тому

      I love magical landscapes, wide open spaces and small towns at end of the world. Norway and Iceland are my favorites. I also love the National Parks in the USA. The Alps en Scotland too.

      @horizontaal 5 років тому

      I certainly hope it will work out for you too. I’m pretty sure it will. All I can say is that I didn’t feel certain at all when I started. That’s normal. At the same time I was picky. I rather had peanut butter sandwiches for a year than well payed writing jobs for an advertising agency.

      @SeekingLost  5 років тому +1

      Definitely. I figured that'd be the case, but for some reason, was a little hopeful they'd be drier. The turkey bags hold up much better than the grocery bags though and at least those didn't break on me. It was depressing to end that way, but at the same time, I was really glad to be done! Katie ended up meeting up with Magoo and hiking the rest of the way to Waterton from St. Marys. So that cut off some miles and two or three passes I believe. She got clobbered with the snow and they spent a day at the Goat Haunt ranger station drying out their gear. But she finished at Waterton. Hopeful ended up bailing out of the mountains at St. Marys.
