Yep, it’s not finished until you’ve been out amongst it. It’s ready for the first couples trip and then for refinements. But isn’t that always the way. I’ll be very keen to see the revisions and additions over the next 6 months or so.

You've clearly put a lot of thought based on amazing experience Andrew. Thank you.
I have a challenge for you (that may not be applicable to us given our age):- What will a tourer look like and what will a cross Australia overland tour look and feel like when only 4x4 EV's are the only option? Assume EV recharging and range issues have been solved (otherwise there is nothing to talk about). Assume the 4x4 EV will provide oodles of power @240V etc. If anyone on this planet can read this crystal ball, I would be more inclined to believe you.

Loved this build, love the content, and also absolutely love your family videos on the other channel. I would be interested in your opinion on the best family of 4 tourer. What would you do? Would you do a troopy and do a conversion for passenger doors for back seat? would you get rig of the bench back seat and have 2 captain style chairs like in the front? How would you get the conveniences similar to what you have (quick set up, hot water, kitchen etc) but for a family either doing international travel or a few weeks trip? or would you do something completely different? WWAD (What would Andrew do)?

    Hi Andrew ,
Great videos ! And learning all the time .
Would be great for a video review of the PVS headlights .
Would love to see a comparison of standard vs the PVS units . Spread and distance . It’s very hard to get the right retro fits or projectors to give a smooth amount of light that has no dark spots .

Almost exactly the build we decided to buy in and extend a couple of years ago. Base vehicle is a Defender 130 series, roof flexed off, added an integrated roof tent, inside bed on a 50cm vertical sliding rail (bed up at the roof during driving and slid down for sleeping), 2 water circles being fed from one 100L tank, incl. a 6L hot water boiler that gets heated by the motor engine, inside and outside shower, two field gas stove, outside gas port for the grill, diesel heater, photovoltaik on the roof, you name it. But the single most important feature is one you wouldn't imagine: it's the drying cabinet!! We can route the warm air of the diesel heater to the perforated floor of the vertical cabinet. At the ceiling of the cabinet we installed a large yacht vent to the outside of the car. We put all wet towels (ever took a dog on a rainy holiday? Then you know what I'm talking about), shoes, clothes, etc. in there, turn the heater on and a couple of hours later the stuff is bone dry, no moisture in the cabin. This might not be of specific value in dry Australia, but in rainy Europe, especially Northern Europe (Iceland, Scandinavia) this is a life safer!!
I can perfectly connect to what you were saying about the type of overlanding in this vehicle: this is not about detailed planing ahead, it's not about booking slots in advance. It's about a rough direction and see and experience what's going to happen, where we're going to be by the end of the day. Perfect vehicle for that. I'm really looking forward to the indepth vehicle introduction episode!

New Voetspore travel journey starting on sabc (roll eyes)TV tonight. Absolutely jumping with joy! They're going through Botswana to Zambia to the origins of the Zambezi river. They're then following the river until it reaches the Indian Ocean in Mozambique.
This makes me think of your legendary trip to the origins of the Okavango Andrew. I don't know if you watch Voetspore, or even like them at all. I absolutely ❤ it, and will definitely ease my longing for travel adventures while we're waiting on you to hit the road (less travelled) again. Sounds like an awesome vehicle that you have put together and will be a joy to travel in. I know you qualified this as "your opinion" in the build but I am wondering if there was a particular environment that you had in mind when you put this together? What I mean by that is that I always struggle when deciding what to put together is what about if I am going north in the winter, or is this suitable for XXX. In some instances it would be great to have a cassette toilet, in others no problem using a cat hole, etc. What parameters did you use for the design or am I all wet and one vehicle can do everything? Great looking truck by the way!

great looking unit Andrew.....this isn't strictly overlanding, but it's very relevant....vision out rear left of vehicle in double lane traffic....both in my troopy and 200 it was/ is an issue.....I have my side mirrors adjusted as wide as possible to eliminate blind spots....but it's often an issue...obviously you have no vision out your left rear side window....and for anyone with a canopy.......do they mount rear vision cameras over their regular one?

I’ve never driven one, but there are two at the mine site down the road from me. They didn’t even get 25,000km out of them before they permanently retired them to the scrap metal yard. If you want a budget vehicle have a look at the Korean sanyong? Or a Mitsubishi triton. Decent warranty on both and lots of accessories for the latter

Get in contact with Ineos. They are taking the Grenadier prototype on the Canning. Would be great if you could make your trip coincide. I'm sure they'd be interested in what you're planning with the Rover. Maybe you could get a first hand look and some footage of the classic RR and it's spiritual successor together.

Beautiful build, though with different priorities to mine. I think more than half the video, for instance, was about the hot water in the shower. Not a high priority for me. On the other hand, maybe in would be if I had the kind of money required for this kind of build! So maybe I would call this 'The best 2-person overland build for people with very deep pockets.' But there is no denying that visually it is a stunning troopy!

Absolutely an awesome rig!! One of the best I have ever seen. But.....if one was to know the total cost of this (for the average person not getting any sponsors for goods or labor + cost of the rig ) it better damn well be the best! Let's be real here. No offense intended or implied.

You can spend the same money and have a very mediocre build relative to the task you wanted it for.

@@Maedetto Or you can spend more and have a rig that is complete junk....or less and have something just as capable. I wasn't comparing costs between vehicles A, B or C...I was just stating that something this nice is definately going to cost a lot of money so you absolutely should get your money's worth. This stuff is all great to watch, get ideas, and be entertained but yes....it costs a lot of money...money, time and hard work.

Great car, no doubt! And if you said "perfect for Australia", that might be true. But you mentioned "the World".. So, just for the argument.. I also live in the world. The World includes the Artic :) If you come here in the winter, stays for some weeks or months , in minus 30-40 degrees C, a few snowstorms, a hurricane or two in the snow. (might be a meter or two) ,and NO sun for some months.. Well, you might survive, but you would discover a few things that is not perfect with your car. :)

I am afraid it is only going to work in Australia. In very cold and rainy climates with snow thrown into the mix it will be a disaster. You will be cold, you won't be able to fold the roof down because the snow will prevent that from happening. As to be the world's best two man overland vehicle it has a long way to go.

    @osmiumgus8025 2 роки тому

It looks brilliant, and I expect with this much experience fitting out troopies and unlimited time for research and fitout - of course the most recent build will be the best ever… every new build there are even more new accessories and fittings for the troopy to choose from. And i also expect you will make changes/refinements after the first few trips to make it even better. I will look forward to that.
For mine, for the travel distances for touring around Australia, I’m not doing it without adaptive cruise control and an 8 way adjustable driver seat that saves 2 driving positions. I had a troopy, I understand its benefits - you say it’s not for comparing with a landcruiser - but if you pull out the second and third row of seats I would love to see what you can do with an LC300 with an equivalent pop-top. Maybe you can motivate your guys to fabricate a prorotype poptop for the LC300 for your next build project…
