"this is black, because (pause) it looks good"... Well I agree with you in 100%. I refuse to be a victim of utility and functionality over the form and shape. You are the one of the most important person in overland society in whole world. In my opinion and many others.
Hi Andrew ,I am from🇮🇳 INDIA,🇮🇳
while searching for Land cruiser /over lander, I am amazed by seeing your Enthusiasm and interest towards modifying the LC towards your requirements... Keep it coming

I'm so glad you mentioned the white elephant in the room. Weight. So many offroaders go way way over on weight, and don't even mention weight. GVWR is so important. Might want to find a way to shield the synthetic rope from sunlight, since it can deteriorate. Keep up the fantastic videos. So educational, very thankful.
The synth rope is in bad shape already after the Canning. I forgot to shield it. Now I must replace it. Damn!
Not sure what "Canning" means, but I have it on my bucket list to visit Australia one day, so I hope to find out one day. Google is of little help. LOL

This is - by far - the most awesome "Overlanders"... sorry.... "VAN"... i've ever seen! How beautiful she is... GREAT! Love it!
Andrew….. I’m glad that there is a person like you out there in this 4x4 world. You speak the absolute truth… Cheers👏🏼
Thankyou Andrew for your insight of your opinion, pros and cons of your build. Very interesting to hear👍👍
"It's a van" 😉 ...almost like a 3-door D110 ;) Thanks Andrew.
The D110 3-door is the closest thing to it. But better off road than the Troopy. Not as good on road, and not as well made.
Thanks so much for all your inspiration Andrew. I really thought that you wouldn't be able to make a better troopy than your previous green one... well... I was wrong. You've made it better and better good looking. Amazingly better. My sincere congratulations Andrew. Awesome building job.
Thanks Andrew, love to hear from you!
subscriber from Quebec here, Sir Andrew you are the best. Thanks you so much for all the free content, the blunt honesty, detailed reviews, you rock ! You make my life easier and that's no small feat. Much love sir !!!
Great explanation of how this set up / build works for you. Thanks for sharing 👍 Great to see someone point out looks go with function. Excited to see the upgrades or tweaks that will be made as a result of your epic CSR drive.
Brilliant ! Absolutely Brilliant. Waited long time for this build review. Cant put a price on experience & knowledge & all this is offered up for free by Andrew. Thank you. Looking forward to part 2.
I think this vehicle is your best work yet. Those headlights are transformative to the aesthetic. I just wish Toyota would listen to you and get a lot more right to start with!
I'm a jeep guy and absolutely love my jeep gladiator - it has everything I need and then some. However, I've has this crazy idea of "what if I took a gladiator platform and turned it into a van?" I've been stewing over it for about a year now and I think the concept would be so cool... Unfortunately in the states we don't have 70 series LC or 110 Defenders (we sorta do, but it's not the same...) and Wranglers and Tacomas rule, which is fine. But we lack the OEM long wheel base 4x4 van type (78 series, 110) and we have to do our best with what we have. Great video Andrew, thanks for sharing!
Your knowledge and passion is such an incredible resource. Thank you!
A great build. A stunning looking vehicle. We’ll done!
Was looking forward to this!!! Great build, excited for the future!!
It is a great build and I love that you emphasise it is your build for your purposes. You invite appropriate critism; however, you humbly explain where you are not the expert. I appreciate the way you do things mate.
I’ve been looking forward to these videos. This is by far my favorite all around build. Looking forward to the next video.
A wonderfully enjoyable video, I've been following your content for about six years now, I do like this type of video that little more than the others, it may be that while you present the products in a professional pitch, you also take the time to explain the unravelling of thought that prompted you to choose, which of course is invaluable information to the less experienced and vital in not making rash purchases that will need to be swapped out later, looking forward to the next part, stay special Andrew.
I love the passion you put into what you do.
Love this vehicle. Beautiful build!! Well done Andrew!
Best build by far and spectacular looking Troopy. I think a lot of commentators don't realise that if you built something the same as everyone else, you wouldn't have a platform with a point of difference. Lovely rig. Well done.
Always love your work. Looking forward to next vid
I couldn't agree more about the wheel holder on the back. It would be a pain to open and close every time!
Hi Andrew,
I’ve been following you for awhile now love your videos, knowledge and opinions regarding 4x4 and over-landing this Troopy is my dream rig you have done amazing job well done looking forward to part 2 of Troopy … cheers Jason
Thanks for the videos you make. Love the colour you choose
I am coming back to this, brilliant
Awesome video Andrew. Thank you.
Great build for sure and very interesting for many of us...thanks a lot Andrew.
Good honest review, Troopy isn't perfect, but has good solid DNA. Spend a large amount of cash and it's great. Where as the opposition, you can't get the same end result no matter how much you spend.
Yes!
Your Troopy is definitely one of the best looking that I've seen.
Always informative and entertaining ... Thanks ASP
A Masterclass vehicle, built by a Class Master. Well done Andrew.
Thank you Andrew.
Great vid, keep 'em coming.
Excellent video. Cannot wait for part 2.
What a bloody beautiful vehicle!! Looks amazing!! 😍
This visit was memorable a saver for sure . looking forward to the our next visit. Happy trails
My 80 series has had its spare on the rear door for 20 years and no issues!
Love it Andy. Your troop enthusiasm is always great. Was genuinely shocked that you're not running Gas struts on the bonnet though!
I enjoy watching your videos again 👍
Superb👏 You inspired my Toyota 4Runner overland build.
Thank you as always Andrew and just a side note to using alloy or steel in the roo bar is that I did find that after long miles of corrugations I started to get cracks in the weld joins in various locations around the dar and this also was apparent on the alloy side steps . Both items needed weld repairs on reaching Alice Springs and consequently I never used alloy again on my return to Perth both items were replaced with steel with no issue since . Kim .
That is outstanding vehicle, very nice build. Andrew you nailed it again ! 🤠
David Attenborough of the 4x4 world, love your enthusiasm, love watching your channel, i have an 80 series setup for camping admittedly it very basic but it suits me.Keep up the great work
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, well presented and love having no ads 👍
Regarding the oil catch can, the oil vapour is not the problem and if you were to open your intercooler you will find it quite clean (after 150k+ kms), some would say beneficial to lubricating the turbine intake fins.
The issue arises were the oil vapour and EGR valve meet at the inlet manifold at the top centre of the engine. The carbon and oil create the sludge and build up. Have a look at turning the valves off electronically immediately and you can leave the catch can off.
Cheers 🍻
Your 100% correct. Andrew is 100% wrong. Sorry Andrew. Catch can catches oil vapour yes, but this was never a intercooler issue. Its EGR. Exhaust Gas Recycling. Mixing exhaust with oil mist = tar sludge. Your intake will be fithy within 30k kms easily. For the record my NT Pajero with 200k kms, had the front mount intercooler ( which is worse for pooling oil mist) removed for cleaning. It was spotless, no cleaning needed. As for the EGR 😁, lets just say my Paj breaths clean air. Another benefit, your oil will still be golden colour even after 7000kms. So guys, look at your EGR and dont waste money on catch cans. If anything, the mist lubricates your turbo impeller ( as it is introduced before the turbo) and valve stems.
My car is probably 1/3 the weight of yours. The standard suspension is often criticized - but for my kind of driving I like it a lot. It’s my daily driver that I take off-road every once in a while.
- Meaning, I might change the shocks later but keep the standard coils springs.
- Why?
- Because it might be the best compromise for me.
Learning with every video.
Great enthusiastic review
Thank you for sharing with us your fruitful experience
Love this video. Hope to see the next one soon.
Yes please next one. 👍🏻
Cheers. 🍻
So glad someone is addressing weight. It’s way too common to build overweight 4wds these days. Weight on a 4WD multiplies every force on every piece of the vehicle, increasing wear, sapping fuel and horsepower and decreasing floatation. Where the average Ute tourer now days takes 4 major structures, cab, tray, canopy, RTT to achieve 3 tasks, driving, storage and sleeping, the troopy or ‘van’ effectively allows this to be achieved in one structure meaning less weight. Was not surprised this came after the dream tourer
Good one thanks
I like this setup. I am a tall person so for me I think a Land cruiser pickup (with a tub) with the Alu-Cab canopy camper will give you more space inside
I clicked the like button, greetings from the Netherlands
Yyeess, great looking Troopy.
This really is an ultimate setup.
Excellent reveal. Wish we could get this Troop Carrier “van” rig here in USA, especially the turbo diesel. As such, my 4Runner is it.
thank you for the video
You should get a T shirt that says "it's a van!" that would be funny.
I really like this build I've gotten so many great ideas for my build from you.
Now I’m looking forward to the v2 build, especially on off-road engine enhancement. I’d like to see what can be done without dropping reliability. Love it.
He makes decisions based on multiple priorities instead of what is the newest or coolest, I like is thinking
Amazing rig! Thanks for sharing.
awesome build Andrew
What an amazing "ride along" this was. Buying a 200 series, and outfitting it because of ASPW. Thank you sir.
Looking forward to next reveal.
My Troopy is due for delivery in March 2023 and using your expertise and experience for inspiration.
Have followed all your Troopy fit outs since 2015? in SA and been planning since 2010 for this.
Exciting to watch and learn.
Andrew, thanks heaps for your efforts, I’m sure I’m not the only one to say that you’re a champion!!
Van life with ASPW. 😁 Wanting to own the best 4WD that suits you is a never ending improvement. It's an ongoing series of mini-projects. I am looking at making major changes to my existing setup. This is due to knowing better what suits my needs, and the emergence of new gear. Driving this need for change is to have better ease of usability, improve access, & reduce weight. My current setup at the back of my 80 Series, are double side-by-side drawers w/a chest style fridge on a fridge slide on the top left side. 3 yrs of use have shown some flaws. Even though my 80 Series only have a modest 2" lift, w/o a drop slide, it is difficult to access the entire interior of the fridge w/o using a step stool. And the upper tailgate gets in the way of fully opening the lids. I'm looking to changing this to a double drawer in a stacked configuration, w/an upright fridge on the left sitting on the floor. This should gives us immensely better access to the fridge, & reduced weight by eliminating the need for a slide, & using a lighter upright fridge. Yup, never ending vehicle projects. 😒 Cha-ching 💰💲💰💲
absolutely amazing video. Well explained and with some fun it makes it even better to watch. very very interesting is your tire issue. Yes exactly... the 255/85-16 would be the perfect tire size but just MT's are available, here in Germany too. But going for 265 or 235 or what ever, the tire diameter gets smaller. For me a problem due to the already quiet short 5th gear. so I went for the 285/75-16 (BFG AT) even when they are to wide for me too.
That’s your best troopy Andrew!!
Very great and instructive and interesting video. Thumbs up . Cheers from Tunisia :)
Great video. Love the 70 series 👍
I have to say, this really is a super build, and it looks great too boot.
Beautiful Toyota.
Thanks for explaining the role of the catch can. Very interesting. As petrol owner I had no idea!
I'll explain👌,,
a) diesels/petrol engines produce oil vapors in the crankcase .
This vapor is ingested into the engine through the PCV system and burnt off via the EGR system. Carbon build up occurs over time clogging the EGR Passage and rendered it ineffective.
The Catch Can removes this oil vapor before it gets to the EGR system,, hence eliminating it from being burned and clogging that system.
Hope that helps 🙏. Cheers 🍻, G.

Lazer Lamps is the best invest for your Troopy, I used it on my FJ Cruiser and looks sleek and low profile, has a great spread and confidence in driving at night. VERY HAPPPY Over lander.
Great Vid, Troopy has just enough done to it to make her look SERIOUS - eg, colour , springs, shocks, tyres, bar work etc . Driveability and practicality always top of mind -- so keen to see how you keep tweeking and adding to the project to keep yourself smiling !?!?!? 😃 Wonder what Paul Marsh thinks - - - - ??
I'm planning working with Paul in Africa next year. And we will build one together.
Love your rig!!!
Thank you for the walkthrough! I was so pleased to hear that you’re going back to a high profile tire! They just look right on the Troopy. I didn’t really care for the wheels you have on it now, and I’m excited to see what you go with for your next set.
Even on a car I prefer high profile tyres with simple steel rims. Gives the best ride quality.
@@labourlawact7826 yes, funny - I’m the same way. We have a VW Atlas (aka Teramont) - 3rd row wagon (aka a SUV in the US). One of the first “mods” I did was get smaller rims and taller, more narrow AT tires. 245/60R16 to 235/75R 17. On my ‘94 Toyota pickup (aka Hilux), went from a 225/75R15 to a 215/85R16. Looking forward to the next set of new tires on the pickup, because will upsize to a 235/85R16.
@@madeinjapanoverland1843 Yeah, that's a very good idea. Here in South Africa you're also much better off with a high profile tyre and steel rims, because there's potholes with fish swimming in them. If you hit one it's goodbye tyre and alloy rim.
I like your van. 👌👌 It's good to know that even with your decades of extensive experience building & fitting out offroad vehicles,... err vans, 😁 you still don't get it right. For me, after 4yrs since I fittout my vehicle, I now want to change it to suit my style of 4WD touring better. Changing things on a 4WD, might not seem like a big deal to you, or for a lot of UA-camrs, where many are sponsored, and/or given these products for free. But for a mere mortal like myself, each & every item fitted to my 4WD, is hard earned, and if it needs to be changed, it seems like a huge waste of money. But even so, it needs to be done to make the improvements. Looking forward to the interior segment. 👍
Waiting for next video really exciting
very very very nice channel indeed Andrew :) and that truck is beautiful mostly agree on many of your mods I would love to build one of those as well.
Hi Andrew, one of your course customers here. Whoever was behind the camera and did the zoom and pan combo at 3:30 - 3:40 right into time for the perfect auto-focus to you - bravo, it was awesome.
He probably added the zoom in himself later with editing software...
Beautiful build! Greetings from Jamaica.

Good one great video thanks
Another great video! I would love to know what you would build if you had the challenge of building an Overlander based on a Troopy for a family of 4 or 5? Maybe you could do a thought experiment?
Andrew, I'm one of those 70 series owners who has damage his rear door latch n hinges with the spare. But that is after 12 years on brutal East African roads with a series of heavier mud terrain 31s hanging on the back door of my 27 year old kzj78. Spare is now on the roof rack, but don't like that weight up so high so am custom building a single swing arm tyre carrier that will allow me/my wife to open the small rear door without opening the swing arm, cause this LC is our daily driver! Great video and agree that rear door damage seems pretty rare on these, the toyota old school engineering was very robust!
I see that the fly enjoyed your discussion about the inter-cooler.
A thing of beauty. Not the way I would do it, but a thing of beauty 👍
Toyo mt 255/85/r16 very good tire!
Absolutely WINDGAT truck!
Living in Australia and reading that word is very funny. I know how it's supposed to be pronounced. But read it in Stayan, and it sounds like, wind gat. But it means, 'hoon' here.
