    I use to have one of these, great little amp - if it had a built in reverb it'd be pretty much perfect. Surprising how well this cheap solid-state amp handles effects

      I have a Vox AC30CC2 with built-in reverb and tremolo, but it doesn't lend itself to late-night noodling with a sleeping family. I found this amp to be a great solution. I did the mods recommended by Landon--removed the limiter diode and replaced the stock speaker with an eight-inch one. It is plenty loud now.
      I run an array of pedals into it, and it sounds great. I use the Danelectro Spring King Reverb pedal with this, and it approximates my AC30CC2 rather well.

    There are people who understand that the Pathfinder 10 is AT LEAST the second-best amp under $100 (I'd take an argument for the Monoprice Stage Right 5W/108 tube amp being slightly better, but it's also only under $100 if you exclude sales tax), and people who are wrong.

    Even in their stock form these amps are one that are useful as a studio tool even after you grow into bigger better amps. Sometimes a small little combo is what you want/need for certain tracks.

  • @ald7248

    A really well-done demo. It's really true that the Pathfinders seem to take pedals better than most other smallish SS amps. I've tried small Fender, Orange, and Blackstar SS amps with pedals - and the Pathfinder 10 really does work better with them, IMO.

    Funnily enough, I just bought one of these for late night headphone playing, and at $110au I was really surprised at how good the clean tone is and how she takes pedals. I'm totally sold with this baby even though it would be a little easier with Bluetooth and aux-in but for the $$ you get what you get and I'm happy with it.

    The tube screamer andor Wah sound great with it imo. (Sounded a bit like "Mysterious Ways" with both). The Muff was kind of muddy and noisy though...concerns me a bit, I want to put Vertex Dynamic Distortion in front of I get it, that's a blend of a TS8 circuit and a germanium fuzz faded together based on pick dynamics....so I wonder if a more moderate fuzz effect than that massive Muff sound would have blended better...

      Two of these and a stereo pedal sound like a great option for a basic and lightweight stereo rig.

    Cool demo. I was thinking about getting a Pathfinder for a easy to move livingroom jam amp. Is the overdrive on the amp good without the pedals ?

    • @landonbailey
      @landonbailey  6 років тому +1

      Roy Benson I don't really like the built in overdrive. But that's just me

    • @HrRacho
      @HrRacho 6 років тому +3

      I own a Pathfinder exactly for that. But honestly, the overdrive is really not good. For my taste actually unusable. But as Lando showed here, it takes pedals quite well. I usually use a king of blues, sweat cream and tiny spring from ToneCity

      Actually, the clean channel cranked, has a sweeter sounding overdrive than the actual overdrive(typical transistor can ‘o bees sounding) channel. If you want really heavy distortion tho, you will need a pedal.

    • @roghib666
      @roghib666 6 років тому +3

      I own the 15r. Its overdrive is quite good. Max gain on clean channel is amazing. But the top boost channel isn't useful for me

      @@Felipe_Silvva hey there! the boss katana has so many built in FX, I probably wouldn't use pedals on it. The Katana is a better amp overall though, so I would say it is better with pedals.
