Lies of P is great. Most soulslikes not from fromsoftware, the creator of the genre, feel a little lacking in comparison. Lies of P is the first, (and only rn) that comes close to meeting that high quality bar. In some ways, it even exceeds it. That footage you saw for feel is reprentitive of how the game actually looks during gameplay. Its stunning. Not that others arent fun too, but theres a clear gap. People have tried for years, and this is the only game that is comparable. Worth noting the game is heavily inspired by Bloodborne, all the "vibes" are quite similar. As for the music, feel in particular is a collectible record you get early on in the game. When I first did the sidequest and heard it in the demo, I was instantly sold on the game. The story is quite a big focus in this one too. Its a bit more direct. The basic gist is that you play as P, a "puppet" that can lie and pretend to be a human. Most other puppets have gone berserk for some reason, so you have to solve that mystery while also pretending to be human so others trust you. Its cool how they took the whole puppet thing of Pinocchio and did it with these steampunk automatons. It makes so much sense, im suprised i havent seen it before. This is a korean dev studio, which is kinda unusual. This was their first action game of any kind, and they KILLED it.
I was a little let down by how it basically has no alternate paths and optional content. The story also isn't anything special, but I do appreciate it has an approachable story and lots of character dialogue unlike many other games in the genre. The characters themselves were very well written and I enjoyed them a lot.
The term 'quixotic' actually comes from the name of the titular character in 'Don Quixote', a spanish novel from the 1600s. The character is... well, you read the description of the word, so you know. Also, if you've heard the phrase 'tilting at windmills', that comes from the same book since there is a section in which he tries to charge down windmills under the belief that they are giants.
Feel is the first song you find in the game and it kinda comes out of nowhere but perfectly sets the mood of the game. It’s fantastic and wonderful to just have it playing while you run around the hub area. Would reccomend this game 100% its aesthetics are impeccable

Pinocchio was not originally made by Disney; it is an old Italian fairy tale. Pretty much everything Disney made is based on an old public domain story. (Also imo Pinocchio is one of the best fairy tales out there. Very fun to reinterpret, as you can clearly see from Lies of P lul)
Lies of P is a soulslike game and it's the first try that the studio at Round8 and Neowiz did, and they knocked it out of the park. For many it's considered the only soulslike that comes head to head with the Souls games made by From Software. It clearly takes inspirations from those games but also adds up many changes that make the experience fantastic and even the most hardcore fan of FromSoftware recognizes how good this game is. I liked Elden Ring and Sekiro, but Lies of P is a game that since i've played it when it came out last year i haven't stopped thinking about it and it's now part of my Top 5 videogames of all time. The steampunk setting, the story, the combat, the bosses, the music, i ADORE this game to death. It's like it was made for me and is more so because i'm Italian and Pinocchio is pretty much ''our'' story, it's the tale that all kids get told so it's beautiful to see such a cool take on the concept while also adding many new things. I highly recommend it. It's on Xbox, PS4/5 and PC. If you have GamePass, it's also available there!
Love Lies of P. The song Quixotic is a reward from attaining a certain outcome in one sidequest. Without spoiling, you need to prove something by going against _Your code of conduct_ simply to bring someone happiness, or consolation.

Quixotic and Feel are pretty much the best fan favorite songs of the game, throughout the game you encounter different NPCs, depending on who you choose to trust and help, you get rewarded with vinyl records, you play them at your hub on a record player and thats where these 2 songs come from *Spoiler for setting* This game is a retelling of Pinocchio, but in a darker, more bloodborne-like setting, most of the enemies are other puppets like yourself, its a really good soulslike that released on 2023 with the dlc coming out later this year
Feel is one of my favorite game OSTs in any game I've ever played. Once Feel starts playing on a music disc in the hub world as a reward for completing a side quest you really get a feeling for how special the rest of the game is going to be. It's incredible.

there's a 2 hour analysis how they reimagined and subverted what the original story of pinocchio (a couple versions of the story as well, not only the disney one). i won't explain in detail why the story is good because a dozen of people has given hours and done it already.
Hi Jesse. Lies of P was my very first introduction to souls-like genre of games and I have to say, this is a VERY difficult game, at least it was to me, during my first playthrough. But I never imagined I'll ended up liking this genre, particularly its replayability. This made me play Bloodborne, which I also platinumed. And I'm currently playing Elden Ring. If this is going to be your very first intro to a souls-like game, I'd definitely recommend to start with Lies of P. My most fav track here is the "Fascination", both its lyrical and orchestral version, though I like the orchestral version more.

For some context: Lies of P is a Korean-made soulslike that is (very loosely) based on the story of Pinocchio, which takes place in a dark gothic steampunk version of Italy. You play as one of the "puppet" automata that are commonly used by city residents as essentially slave labor, working to help liberate the city from a plague that is turning people to stone and turning puppets into monsters. As the name suggests, Lying is a major theme of the story, with puppets being explicitly forbidden from lying by their programming. Lying, therefore, is explicitly interlinked with humanity, making the main character's capacity to lie an anomaly with potentially fascinating consequences. Gameplay wise, it's very similar to a lot of other roguelikes, with the titular "P" being able to deck themselves out with various new weapons and gadgets. It's noteworthy for its high level of customization, allowing you to link up different weapon handles with different weapon bodies, effectively allowing you to use the stats of one weapon while getting the moveset of another. If you enjoy the Souls games, it's worth checking out, even if the difficulty curve does spike in places.

Best souls-like out there and a great love-letter to Bloodborne. Lies of P takes place in the Belle Époque period of France which overlapped the late Victorian era. :) The game gives it a steampunk twist. If you ever decide to play it I bet you’ll have a great time collecting all the records and playing them on the gramophone hehe
bear in mind, i suck at gameplay...i am more of a casual gamer but i pushed myself to finish this game because it is just that great. especially the story! every element in the game is centered and compliments the story
amazingly beautiful game and feel just breaks me down every time. can’t help but shed a tear when i hear it wanted to add, this is a souls like game which takes inspiration from the creator of dark souls, elden ring, etc. this game has been compared bloodborne aesthetically with combat similar to sekiro, which are games created by fromsoft(who also did the souls games.) easily the best souls like that was created outside of fromsoft. the only lady is antonia and i didn’t realize how invested i was in the game until she passed. legit made me cry a little.
This game came out of nowhere on me, and left me wanting more so badly. Everything about it is a masterpiece imo, even though its a souls-like. Its like souls meets team ninja meets bloodborne meets dmc lol.
I didn't expect to see this video, but I'm glad. Lies of P has quickly become one of my favorite games and it's awesome to see your thoughts on some of the music in it. I've always loved how down to earth your vids and commentary are and how you get a feel for each piece of music you listen to.
Lies of P is a fantastic game, souls like with mechanic and feel heavily inspiration in Bloodborne and Sekiro, but taken in a more traditional action adventure direction. Straight forward from and center story and narrative, as well as lineal progression. The main source for the Pinocchio story seems to come from the novel written by Carlo Collodi mixed with concepts from Gnosticism and Gnostic Alchemy. There is lots of interesting and intricate references and concept to pick apart if you are into the deeper lore and meanings.
Lies of P is a very good game that surprises everyone and its the first souls like to hit the Fromsoft's quality standards (other than Fromsoft themselves). Not to mention it was the teams first big game and they naild the aspects of what makes a good souls game. They got the art direction, OST, world building/lore, combat, boss design, and atmosphere on point.
BASIC SPOILER FREE PLOT SUMMARY: Lies of P is a grim dark version of the ORIGINAL Pinocchio (not the Disney version) mixed with an gothic London aesthetic and Dark Souls/Bloodborne (minus cthulu stuff though). Easily one of the BEST souls-like games to EVER come out. This was the team’s FIRST game, and now it’s super popular, sold amazing, and has a DLC and sequel on the way already!🥳❤️
I think instead of Gothic London the game is more based around the french Belle Époque-era. They also made Bless Unleashed before this but yeah it's practically their first game like this.
The 1st time i put this music i remember i had to stop whatever i was doing just to enjoy the music. When that happens, when a music is too good it's not just a distract while playing, the feeling you got after listening to this masterpiece shines even better. There are few songs that captivated me that much like "Feel". Nice moment to be alive! (Raphael's theme from baldur's gate 3 is another example)
The collectable records in this bloodbornelike was such a sweet surprise, i still remember myself sitting mystified listening to feel for the first time almost moved to tears at a god damn Pinocchio game. .

Your character is actually a host for Carlo, not actually Pinocchio. I have seen so many say P stands for Pinocchio, but it's just as likely that it stands for the Korean word for blood, which is pronounced as the letter P. If you play the game, you'll understand why it fits. And there's fantastic Lore videos out there on it as well.
it would be nice if you would check out the original versions of these songs. these songs are a cover specifically tailored to fit the story and timeline of the game. the original is the absolute opposite
This game is the closest thing that we got to from software games as souls like genre , the only problem that bosses are trash ( waiting for the dlc to change my mind ) and sometime in dungeons i feel they are stealing the design from bloodborne rather than just a reference to it.
I love the music in this game. It's so soothing and emotional. I also think it's a great game. Without doubt I'd sooner beat it 3 times, than beat Elden Ring a second time. Also unlike Fromsoft, you don't need a PHD to understand the story.
Platinumed Lies of P last year. Overall it's very good as a soulslike, and seemed to do a solid job teaching basic mechanics and having immaculate vibes. It is on the harder side even for the genre, so while it does a good job explaining things it can be quite brutal if you're not used to hardcore action RPGs. I still prefer the exploration and level design of From Software titles, but the combat found a good balance between dodging, blocking and parrying, and a pretty cool upgrade system, as well as collectible Records with songs like these to play in your hub home area which felt like "Our game is 100% complete with music for all the gameplay, but what if we added an entire new album of songs just for fun."
Alot of the songs in Lies of P are remakes from DJ Max, like Proposal, Flower, Wolf Part 1, or Misty E'ra, or Far East Princess. The most recent track revealed for the DLC, Lisrim, is also another remake. Neowiz is taking advantage of their old works and created new gold out of it.
Lies of P is incredible, by far the best non FromSoft soulslike and I'd say even better than some of From's work. I've played through it multiple times and it's an incredibly fun and beautiful game, the story is really nice and the gameplay is extremely smooth.
Lies of P’s soundtrack is something I think can’t be replicated for one reason; a lot of it is remixes of an entirely different game that just happens to be from the same publisher. DJMAX is a very long running rhythm game series and most of these songs are like almost a decade old, completely rewritten from Kpop to different languages and moods for this story. It’s something I’ve never heard any game do before, and the DLC track released just the other day is still doing that. Using an established musical series as music for an entirely different genre and studio is crazy but works.

For most it's the first of the collectible music discs you can find in the game. It stuck with me as one of my favorite things in the entire game.
I wanted to let you know that just in case you want to do more Lies of P, there was a track called Lisrim released recently from the DLC of Lies of P. It is really great, and it is a very different vibe from these tracks if you were looking for something new.
Boss tracks are also very good, some of my favorites are Hall of Fame, Green and Greed, and Nameless Chaos. It wouldve been very easy to slack on the music but the soundtrack ended up being much better than I expected, like nearly every other part of the game

In Lies of P you can find Records that you can play in the Hub area of this game ( Like Firelink Shrine in Dark Souls ) These songs do serve a gameplay purpose but you wont hear them randomly in any area you have combat in. What many people dont know though, all these songs are basically just new Versions. Not a single one of em is an Original. I believe P is mostly a huge reference to multiple things within the setting. To Pinocchio for one yes, although it's not the player character's name and is an influence on the story if anything, even referenced as being a book that exists within the world. Apparently the letter P also sounds like "blood" in Korean, further seen in how one of the primary upgrade systems in the game is a "P-Organ" (heh), which is a heart-like component within robots. Blood in this context seems to also refer to familial bonds as well as the divide between human and machine (known as puppets in the game). There's also a heavy theme on lies and how they effect people, as well as how sometimes it may be better to tell a white lie rather than a harsh truth. A particular character who lies to you to the ens also has a name starting with P, which he never tells you of course.
Lies of P was referred to as 'Pinocchio Souls' for a reason. :p That, and 'Bloodborne 2'. And, yes, Disney took the original Pinocchio and made a more family friendly version. So, indeed, Lies of P is inspired more by the original story by Carlo Collodi, albeit with its own twists such as steampunk aesthetics, puppets being the game's robots, and 'zombies'. Aspects of Pinocchio as we know today are used in the gameplay, such as lying, or the growing nose. While the setting looks grim, the overall story felt personal and hopeful, particularly if you get the best ending. And it looks like Neowiz has big plans for its universe, based on a couple of easter eggs. Anyways, Lies of P was Neowiz's first attempt at getting into the console space, as well as the first attempt at making a Soulslike. If this was their first attempt at all these things, can't help but wonder what a more experienced Neowiz would be like.

bear in mind, i suck at gameplay...i am more of a casual gamer but i pushed myself to finish this game because it is just that great. especially the story! every element in the game is centered and compliments the story

wanted to add, this is a souls like game which takes inspiration from the creator of dark souls, elden ring, etc. this game has been compared bloodborne aesthetically with combat similar to sekiro, which are games created by fromsoft(who also did the souls games.) easily the best souls like that was created outside of fromsoft.
the only lady is antonia and i didn’t realize how invested i was in the game until she passed. legit made me cry a little.
This game came out of nowhere on me, and left me wanting more so badly. Everything about it is a masterpiece imo, even though its a souls-like. Its like souls meets team ninja meets bloodborne meets dmc lol.
I didn't expect to see this video, but I'm glad. Lies of P has quickly become one of my favorite games and it's awesome to see your thoughts on some of the music in it. I've always loved how down to earth your vids and commentary are and how you get a feel for each piece of music you listen to.

Lies of P is a fantastic game, souls like with mechanic and feel heavily inspiration in Bloodborne and Sekiro, but taken in a more traditional action adventure direction. Straight forward from and center story and narrative, as well as lineal progression.
The main source for the Pinocchio story seems to come from the novel written by Carlo Collodi mixed with concepts from Gnosticism and Gnostic Alchemy. There is lots of interesting and intricate references and concept to pick apart if you are into the deeper lore and meanings.

Lies of P is a very good game that surprises everyone and its the first souls like to hit the Fromsoft's quality standards (other than Fromsoft themselves).
Not to mention it was the teams first big game and they naild the aspects of what makes a good souls game. They got the art direction, OST, world building/lore, combat, boss design, and atmosphere on point.

Lies of P is a grim dark version of the ORIGINAL Pinocchio (not the Disney version) mixed with an gothic London aesthetic and Dark Souls/Bloodborne (minus cthulu stuff though). Easily one of the BEST souls-like games to EVER come out. This was the team’s FIRST game, and now it’s super popular, sold amazing, and has a DLC and sequel on the way already!🥳❤️
I think instead of Gothic London the game is more based around the french Belle Époque-era. They also made Bless Unleashed before this but yeah it's practically their first game like this.
The 1st time i put this music i remember i had to stop whatever i was doing just to enjoy the music. When that happens, when a music is too good it's not just a distract while playing, the feeling you got after listening to this masterpiece shines even better. There are few songs that captivated me that much like "Feel". Nice moment to be alive! (Raphael's theme from baldur's gate 3 is another example)
The collectable records in this bloodbornelike was such a sweet surprise, i still remember myself sitting mystified listening to feel for the first time almost moved to tears at a god damn Pinocchio game.

Your character is actually a host for Carlo, not actually Pinocchio. I have seen so many say P stands for Pinocchio, but it's just as likely that it stands for the Korean word for blood, which is pronounced as the letter P. If you play the game, you'll understand why it fits. And there's fantastic Lore videos out there on it as well.
it would be nice if you would check out the original versions of these songs. these songs are a cover specifically tailored to fit the story and timeline of the game. the original is the absolute opposite
This game is the closest thing that we got to from software games as souls like genre , the only problem that bosses are trash ( waiting for the dlc to change my mind ) and sometime in dungeons i feel they are stealing the design from bloodborne rather than just a reference to it.
I love the music in this game. It's so soothing and emotional. I also think it's a great game. Without doubt I'd sooner beat it 3 times, than beat Elden Ring a second time. Also unlike Fromsoft, you don't need a PHD to understand the story.
Platinumed Lies of P last year. Overall it's very good as a soulslike, and seemed to do a solid job teaching basic mechanics and having immaculate vibes. It is on the harder side even for the genre, so while it does a good job explaining things it can be quite brutal if you're not used to hardcore action RPGs. I still prefer the exploration and level design of From Software titles, but the combat found a good balance between dodging, blocking and parrying, and a pretty cool upgrade system, as well as collectible Records with songs like these to play in your hub home area which felt like "Our game is 100% complete with music for all the gameplay, but what if we added an entire new album of songs just for fun."
Worth noting these are both remixes of songs originally composed for the DJMax Rythmn game series - both DJMax and Lies of P are published by NeoWiz
Alot of the songs in Lies of P are remakes from DJ Max, like Proposal, Flower, Wolf Part 1, or Misty E'ra, or Far East Princess. The most recent track revealed for the DLC, Lisrim, is also another remake. Neowiz is taking advantage of their old works and created new gold out of it.
Lies of P is incredible, by far the best non FromSoft soulslike and I'd say even better than some of From's work. I've played through it multiple times and it's an incredibly fun and beautiful game, the story is really nice and the gameplay is extremely smooth.
Lies of P’s soundtrack is something I think can’t be replicated for one reason; a lot of it is remixes of an entirely different game that just happens to be from the same publisher. DJMAX is a very long running rhythm game series and most of these songs are like almost a decade old, completely rewritten from Kpop to different languages and moods for this story. It’s something I’ve never heard any game do before, and the DLC track released just the other day is still doing that. Using an established musical series as music for an entirely different genre and studio is crazy but works.
It was genius, and very well done, too. I am still amazed how they managed to make, say, Feel from a happy poppy tune to such a somber song.

Playing through the game when it came out I was caught so of guard by Feel. For most it's the first of the collectible music discs you can find in the game. It stuck with me as one of my favorite things in the entire game.
I wanted to let you know that just in case you want to do more Lies of P, there was a track called Lisrim released recently from the DLC of Lies of P. It is really great, and it is a very different vibe from these tracks if you were looking for something new.

Boss tracks are also very good, some of my favorites are Hall of Fame, Green and Greed, and Nameless Chaos. It wouldve been very easy to slack on the music but the soundtrack ended up being much better than I expected, like nearly every other part of the game
Lies of P was great…. And then I played Stellar Blade & heard that OST, and I’m not sure anything can match it
I feel the same but for Made in Abyss' ost, but hey, there can be more than one great soundtrack out there.
Lies of P is a great game jesse. Music is great. The setting for this game is the Belle Epoque Era, which lasted roughly from the late 1870s to the outbreak of World War I in 1914.
In Lies of P you can find Records that you can play in the Hub area of this game ( Like Firelink Shrine in Dark Souls )
These songs do serve a gameplay purpose but you wont hear them randomly in any area you have combat in.
What many people dont know though, all these songs are basically just new Versions. Not a single one of em is an Original.
These songs all already appeared ( albeit in different genres) in the DJ Max game series produced by Neowiz ( who also acted as publisher for lies of P and was responsible for the music)

I believe P is mostly a huge reference to multiple things within the setting. To Pinocchio for one yes, although it's not the player character's name and is an influence on the story if anything, even referenced as being a book that exists within the world.
Apparently the letter P also sounds like "blood" in Korean, further seen in how one of the primary upgrade systems in the game is a "P-Organ" (heh), which is a heart-like component within robots. Blood in this context seems to also refer to familial bonds as well as the divide between human and machine (known as puppets in the game).
There's also a heavy theme on lies and how they effect people, as well as how sometimes it may be better to tell a white lie rather than a harsh truth. A particular character who lies to you to the ens also has a name starting with P, which he never tells you of course.
Lies of P was referred to as 'Pinocchio Souls' for a reason. :p That, and 'Bloodborne 2'.
And, yes, Disney took the original Pinocchio and made a more family friendly version. So, indeed, Lies of P is inspired more by the original story by Carlo Collodi, albeit with its own twists such as steampunk aesthetics, puppets being the game's robots, and 'zombies'.
Aspects of Pinocchio as we know today are used in the gameplay, such as lying, or the growing nose. While the setting looks grim, the overall story felt personal and hopeful, particularly if you get the best ending. And it looks like Neowiz has big plans for its universe, based on a couple of easter eggs.
Anyways, Lies of P was Neowiz's first attempt at getting into the console space, as well as the first attempt at making a Soulslike. If this was their first attempt at all these things, can't help but wonder what a more experienced Neowiz would be like.
Most disney films are adaptations, yeah. Pinocchio was originally published as serialized stories evebtually collected in novel form. Pinocchio was originally a huge asshole, totally different from Disney's version. There's a great video by Jacob Geller that dives into what Pinocchio even means "Pinocchio is a story about art and god". Recommend if curious about its origins and why/how its a story adapted in so many varied ways. Lies of P being a soulslike adaptation of Pinocchio makes perfect sense.
Now I really want to see him hear the original Feel and Quixotic (the DJmax version).
Lies of P was by far GOTY 2023. the Steampunk aesthetic and the loving portrayal of classic fables makes this game special.
You should absolutely play lies of P. One of my favourite games of all time
