This was a HUGE help while we were driving to Walt Disney World last month. We were in South GA when it happened. I asked my wife to drive while I researched the issue. We stopped in Valdosta bought a cheap pair of needle nose pliers at Publix. Repaired it in the parking lot. By the time we got back to I-75 it was ice cold again! Thanks for saving our trip!
How to do that to mine thanks
Every time I drove my wife's 2012 Focus I hated it because of the intermittent AC. My friend who used to be a Ford tech said it could be the evap sensor, and said the dash would have to be removed at a cost of around $900 to replace it. There is a video of a guy bypassing his in his Lincoln, so I thought I could try that. Found your video and discovered that the sensor was accessible from the driver's side, and wow, was that easy! I went the extra mile and bought the Motorcraft part at O'Reilly's for $13, clipped it, and the AC is perfect now. Thank you!
Unbelievable! This worked like a charm! Coming from someone who doesn't have a mechanical history, I was somewhat leery about this solution. However, everything that this guys was saying about the problem was happening on my family's return trip from NJ. So, I tried it and when I came back from the bathroom at a rest stop off the turnpike, and saw the windows rolled up, I was so happy to find the fix worked! My wife, kids, and mom were all singing my praises as I got into the car. Daddy saved the day! Or at least the ride back... Thank you for making me look like a rock star!
Stephen DeBose Nice thanks for sharing!
Hahaha i love this comment.... you are a rock star man
What did you use to snip it off?
@@appleztooranges It shows you what tool to use in the picture lol 1:12
@@appleztooranges use snip as shown in diagram in the video.
On a 6 hour, 90 degree road trip with my dad in his 2013 Escape and the AC was seizing up about an hour in. Found this video and this method took care of it. We are back to riding cool. Thank you so much for posting this.
THIS WORKED PERFECTLY, I spent hundreds of dollars at the auto shop trying different things, nothing worked. I did this at home and immediately the AC was blasting. THANK YOU
Just fixed my wife’s car on the side of the road on a 300 mile road trip through the desert in 105 degree heat, your the man !
scarabkid22 how long did it take to get cold air to come back on?
Same issue with my Ford Escape 2014. The fix worked perfectly, minus the Ford recommendations of refrigerant and Cabin Filter. Thank you.
Had this issue on our Escape driving through 105 degree heat through Southern California. Stopped, did a quick search and luckily found this video on You Tube, and had the thing fixed in 10 minutes. Worked great...thanks for posting this!
I love finding tips online for fixing my own vehicles! Keep it up, thanks!
Thank you so very much! My local Ford dealership quoted me over $500 for replacing the sensor, saying the coolant recharge and cabin filter were mandatory parts of the procedure. After watching your video, I ordered a replacement sensor for $42 and swapped it out myself in 5 minutes. Thank you!
This saved us on a road trip in a 2014 escape we bought used last fall. Could hear the motor but nothing coming out, googled and came to your video and had it fixed in 10 minutes. Thank you so much for posting this!!!
Driving with my brother cross country and we started having this issue. I googled how to fix this and this video saved us! After fixing it we immediately had cold air blasting and were back on the road in less than 5 min! Thank you so much for this easy tip!
One of the most valuable youtube channels going....Thanks for all your effort doing this!
Thank you!!! My wife's 2013 Escape is having this exact problem on the hottest and most humid days. I checked the level of refrigerant and it was fine so I was confused as to what would make it freeze up. Easy and free fix.
Thanks sir! Works like magic, I've had this problem since last year and went to a repair shop for a couple of times but they already change the compressor, added freon but still had the same problem and they suggested to open the dashboard to inspect the whole AC system....I was hesitant to do this at first but I said it wouldnt be so bad to try it and voila!!! It's working fine ,should have done this a long time ago and could have save me some dollars ..
Woohoo! Had this exact problem on our 2014 2.0 AWD.
Replaced the cabin air filter that was plugged from going through a few Arizon Haboobs dust storms.
Now in high humidity Arkansas with 100 degree heat.
Clipping the loop took care of the issue perfectly.
I’m not sure it has ever cooled down this low before.
I’ll rate this TSB fix a 10!
I just did this to my 2014 Escape I am excited to try it out. Driving this morning to Orlando airport and working on and turning it of and on was a pain. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. You are awesome.
Great vid, Makuloco! Thx for posting, this issue has plagued me & my 2013 Escape 2.5L. Thx again!
Sweet video. Thank you for this. They ordered a replacement sensor for my Fiesta, which they said will take about 2 months to arrive. Perhaps I should show the dealer this video.
Amazin! I have done mine and its fixed all those problems. Thank you!!
Awesome! Side of the road on a hot. humid day in Michigan! Thanks!
Tried this on my 2013 Focus. Worked like a charm!
Thank you my friend!
How did you remove the panel
@@draven1307 I did mine without removing the panel. I didn't even unconnect the connector.
Thanks for the vid! Wife just took first road trip and sure enough they had this problem!
Was out doing uber eats in this florida weather and ong this saved me thank you so much !
Thank you for this video, did the trick for my 2011 Ford S-Max. According to forscan this sensor had a permanent failure. Best fix ever 😂
This guy is legit. I’ve been chasing this problem on my 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. The sensor location is on the passenger side and I had to wind up replacing the sensor, but it works. I took it to my local Ford dealer twice and they couldn’t “replicate” the problem.
Thank you so much for posting this fix. It worked for me today. People like you are so kind to help others with your knowledge. It saved me all the hassle and cost to get it repaired.
Very cool- thank you very much @FordTechMakuloco!
Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!! We were driving across the desert and this problems happened to us with little kids in the back of the car.
Thank you. Did the fix on my 2013 Escape and so far, so good!
Where is the sensor located?
And how did you remove the panel
Thank you! Going to try this on my 2013 Escape.
Brian, Love your videos, especially helpful for my 2009 Ford Escape. Have you done any videos on the very common problem of radiator fan running on high speed when AC is being run. Apparently the issue is caused by the desiccant bag bursting which results in the particles floating around and ultimately plugging up pressure valve. The TSB fix involves reverse flushing the system to purge all the debris. My tech just replaced the valve and re-pressurized system but shortly thereafter the radiator fan is again running at high speed although my AC is still operating cold. Blower Speed #1 doesn’t work but I think that is another issue to be solved by replacing YH23 blower resistor.
Good Sunday to you. Just wanted to touch base with you as it has been seven years since you first posted this. Looks like Ford came out with another part to replace the original one, and you don't have to snip the loop off of the sensor now.... Allegedly. it is FV6Z-19C734-B. About the only difference that I can see from the original part and what the new one is, is a bend in that straight shaft about halfway up before you get to the sensor. and to be honest, it looks like it is original part, and Ford just heated it and bent it. time will tell. Because I did do the loop removal, and down here in Florida, a year after I did it, I started having the same problem again. I will keep you in the loop as to how this works in the long run. Thanks so much.
Fantastic, sir. Thank you!
Thank you! This was very helpful!!!
Many thanks, I am facing the same problem on my ford focus 2013, I was about to change the temperature sensor, I believe it will fix my problem also, hope for good,
Another thing I will gonna clean EVAP drainage pipe as well cuz I never see water dripping under my car.
Gonna try this tomorrow morning along with a new filter. AC works the best of any car I’ve ever had then poof, minimal air coming out of the vents but blower motor still cranking away. I live in Arizona so AC is a MUST.
Took me a while to find the sensor, its above the gas pedal on the side of centre console close to the firewall. So i have had this is issue for past two summers, so I look forward to seeing if this works. Thanks for sharing this. I'll send an update..
I think I have the same problem on my 2010 Ford Fusion. AC airflow drops to nothing, only happens during very humid conditions. Airflow returns to normal after an hour or so (evaporator thaws??). I've learned that if I run the heater for just a couple of minutes, it defrosts quickly. Too bad its so difficult to replace the sensor on the Fusion (I watched your other video on removing the dash). I'll just live with it. Excellent job on the videos, thanks.
Good video!
I'm having the same problem with my 2012 Escape, i.e. in hot weather lately, the AC starts blowing warm air. I've taken it into a neighborhood mechanic and a dealership, but both were unable to recreate the problem (charging me over $100 total) for the "labor".
It's now cooler and it seems to be working fine, but since this is Texas, it'll be steaming in no time around here.
Would this problem A) occur on a 2012? and B) be so intermittent?
great tip for this huge problem design , thanks for share , greetings
Just saved me again. Thanks man
Thanks Brian this was helpful.
Keep up with the videos great stuff im a master tech but not for ford learned a few things here
doing this to my 2013 Ford C- Max Hybrid SEL ... THANKS YOU !!!
Well doing this to my focus I watched the thermometer in the vents and it was hovering around 40-45 for a long time and then it started over cooling then. I don't know what to think at this point? Maybe the sensor is just bad?
Brian thank you for the fix.
Great video very helpful !!
It usually happens when I'm on the freeway. I just did this fix hopefully it solves the AC issue when I'm on the road-Thanks
Great video. I do have a question. I have a 2014 Escape and I've noticed a buzzing noise coming from the blower fan. I've taken it to the dealer and they told me that they compared it to a new vehicle and advised that it made the same noise. Do you know if this is common in this model? If not, do you know how to access the blower fan? I'm wondering if debris has gotten into the fan.
wow thank you, will try that tomorrow. I actually had AC spit ice cold water on my right foot for minutes... while driving when I realized the evap is frozen and turned ac off.
fixed mine! thank you!!
Thanks for that info!
Where is this sensor located on a 2012 Escape 2.5 Limited. I looked under the dash near the pedal. Is my model one of the ones that requires removal of the dash board?
Great videos! Thanks!
FordTechMakuloco sir, how are you? I always watch your videos related to ford. I just wondering have you ever encountered a problem related to a/c that is turning on and off whenever its hot outside. I soon realized that its happening when I turned off my recirculation then the ac intermittently shutting on and off about 4sec intervals. I tried to check the ac pressures and its good. I also did alter my evap sensor. Like what you showed in your video. Even my private Mechanic cannot figured it out, i tried to bring it to the dealer and it did not show any signs of the problem. So I just dunno anymore what to do with the car. Is there any connection with the a/c and the recirculation? Maybe software problems? Thank you so much. My car is a ford escape 2014 2.5L.
thanks a lot buddy, helped me a lot
TY - For years, I have been saying I was going to do it but didn't. Watched your video and did it in a few minutes. Woo hoo. Not bad for a woman just shy of 60 lol
Thanks for the tip. My local Ford dealer is 4 weeks out for service.
I've got a question, I have a 2014 Ford focus that had great working a/c at night or not in direct sunlight. I have recharged the system at my shop and the sensor is the same as the c-max. Do you think this fix would help with the poor performance during the hot Florida midday sun lol.
This is great thanks !
Problem solved in less than 5 minutes! Thanks!!!
sweet ! my sisters escape is having issues with the AC. THANKS ! will try this out !
Did it work for you?
Hi, thank you for the video.
Have you got any video to replace the actuator on a Ford Escape 2013 or later?
Thanks.
👍🏻. much easier then other videos. thanks
Great tip thanks
Thank you for this excellent video. I know it has helped a lot of people with the later model Ford Escapes. If at all possible, could you please answer the same question (or possibly pount us to a link) in detail related to the earlier model 2010 to 2012 with the same issues. Many people on this stream have asked, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer as to how to find the "evaporator temperature sensor" on these models. Specifically do you have to pull the dash out to reach it? Many references are to the 2012 Ford Escape. Thank you so much for your time.
Hey Brian, just did this procedure easily on my 2013 ford escape. Now the a.c. Is blowing only warm/ outside temp air... Any advice? Thanks!
Hello, I did this a still having the issues. I saw a forum post of someone changing out the blower motor resistor and it working. What do you think about that?
Great tip I did it on my 13 escape 2.0
Is the EVAP temp sensor in the same location on a 2012 Ford Escape?
I did what you said but still does it.
013 SEL. Have replaced Cabin filter twice since owning.
Thanks anyways.🇨🇦
the sensor is in the exact same place for a 2014 ford focus.. I am guessing they used this same sensor in many models, so would you say its worth a try to fix? description of issues, air flow slows to a crawl and is at room temperature.. and car sits for a while, crank it up, whaaala.. so guessing core is freezing, and once thawed, prob is solved.. I am guessing its safe to make same repair on my focus..??
and yes.. you're awesome.. thanks for this info.. powerless to the dealer repair shop, and an empty wallet, without you...
Got any tips for a 2014 escape with a squeaking blower motor? I can't even figure out where it is.
Hi, I own Kuga 2 from 2013. Its a 2.0 tdci Duratorq and I have the issue you describe, bit I can reproduce it every time when my car engine speed is greater that 2.5k. What I did are changing cabin filter and I cut that temp sensor as you showed in this video.
But my problem still exists. What I think is that I might have an overchaged AC system and compressor shuts down due to ac pressure sensor finds too high pressure at high pressure side when engine revs high (a lot of "high" word 😅 ). But how to confirm that? Is there any free app I can use with OBD2 reader to see the value of that ac pressure sensor?
My 2006/2007 Focus A/C is blowing cold air from only 2 of the 4 vents. From the other 2 vents the air that comes out is almost outside temperature. What could this be? Thanks from Brazil.
Thank you man! Fr thanks
My son has a 2014 Explorer XLT that has the exact symptoms described for the Escape. Can you tell me the location of the evaporator temp sensor is? Is it behind the gas pedal as you show in the video on the Escape?
@fordTechMakuloo great video, is there a "Quick fix" for a 2013 Fusion Titanium edition? I really don't want to pull the Dash!!!! HELP!!!!!
solved my problem, easy fix
My 2001 Ford escape has the same symptoms. Do you know where the evap temp sensor is on my car? Thank you!
FordTechMakuloco
Great vid as usual. I need your help on that one.
On my 2006 Ford Escape V6. The system got freon, but when you turns the AC on the compressor clutch doesn't engage. I end up with hot air. All the fuses are ok. What do you think and no codes
+Paulose54 jumper the a/c clutch relay pins 3 and 5 for a short period of time does the clutch now come on?
Hey there! So i took my ford escape into a Firestone Tire and auto care store here in New Orleans. I had been complaining of my ac getting kinda uncomfortable warm when driving, then going back to cold. But when it was more evening time, it would stay cold. Odd so i took it to the mechanic to look at and he told me he thinks its mold in the accumulator and that i really should bring it to my dealer ( im looking at a whole knew ac unit) any ideas ?
Would this fix work for 2014 ford fiesta? I'm having the exact problem...sensor is blue identical...and by the way how long does it take for evap to thaw? thx
Thank you very much. 6 hour car trip turned miserable. Did this at a rest area in 5 minutes! Now I'm frosty!
+ron leaf I get this comment all the time when families are on long road trips. I guess it was worth it to make his video.
FordTechMakuloco I call you lifesaver
Just did this and hoping it worked! I’ll come back!
Hi @FordTechMakuloco in a ford escape 2011 the sensor is located at the same place?
Is this the same problem/fix and location on the explorers as well?
Is this applicable to Ford Fiesta? I'm having the same issue with the AC suddenly dropping and blowing hot air. Thanks!
ive already change the weather sensor that goes on the front bumper, hope you can help me, tranks a lot
I have a 2011 Escape XLT and am experiencing the same issues described in this video. Does anyone know where this sensor is located in my model? I looked near the gas pedal and did not find it. Thanks!
is the 06/07 models similar in problem fixing? i have a hybrid 07 and its having similar issues
Yes!! Finally I’ve found the fix. My AC completely blocks up when it’s a hot humid day. You can hear it blowing like crazy but it is a restricted flow.
What is the fix?
shane walsh this video
is this faulty sensor can cycle to air conditioning? (compressor engages, trips, snaps, trips, and so on). Thank you
My 2013 Fusion 2.0 Ecoboost has this same problem. Is there a similar fix available for my car?
we're having the same problem, but with a 2012... is it a similar fix? if so, is the ETS location the same?
Do you know if this will work on a Ford Focus?
Thank you soooooo much....I was able to pull out the sensor and cut out the plastic in less than five minutes.
Michael Massari did it help?
Yes...but I still have a fan issue. The fan speed intermittently slows down and then speeds up.
This problem has been ANOTHER issue I have suffered through with a used Ford Escape I bought a few years ago. Will be performing this fix STAT. The dealer won’t ever see my car again. They are as unreliable equally as much as the Fords I have had through the years have been poorly-designed. Thanks for the info.
Following up on my own post. Followed your instructions yesterday evening and today my AC stayed chilly every which-a-away during my commute for the first time EVER!! Now I don’t have to stress over road-trips in the car with my kids thinking Dad’s car is STUPID! Thank you, thank, you THANK YOU!
I have a 2011 taurus SHO and my ac some times works and some times it dont do you know if my evap temp sensor is our?
Hi how are you. My problem is related except that I just bought a used 2018 Escape and the problem is that the AC blows hot when we get in it. The temp reading that's right next to the vehicle back up view display monitor show a way of number. Like when I got in it today it showed 27°f. So it blows hot air thinking it needs to heat the cabin not cool it. After driving a few minures I turned the AC system off and on then temp reading started going up quickly to the proper cabin temp. which was 87°f. Then the AC came on and it started blowing cold air. What is causing this problem? Is it the same as above ?
