Thanks for taking the time to tell us this. I know you are a busy family and now we can stop worrying about Myrtle shivering. Congratulations! AND thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I have learned so much 🙂. God Bless
My family watched the video together this morning. My 8 year old daughter wears an eye patch to strengthen a lazy and it’s on the same side as the female piglet with the black patch on its eye so we named her Haddy after my daughter. Love all your videos. Never know we may be neighbors some day. I have been looking at property in Southern Missouri and one place is listed as Ava, Mo. God bless.
Judging by the first 10 comments I am glad you posted/pinned this.. 100% normal for the sow to shiver, our sow delivered in July and did the exact same thing.. thanks for the video, I can honestly say I've been checking my notifications often waiting for it.. Myrtle did great, definitely a keeper!!
Its normal for mama to shiver....does anyone remember shivering somewhat uncontrollably after having their own children?? It can and does happen!! Our bodies just went through all that work im pretty sure its just an after effect!! Thank you for taking the time to answer! Love your farm and family!! God bless you! Piglets are adorable!!
I can't believe how excited I got about Myrtle's giving birth. I am a 52 year old man. I don't usually get excited about anything. lol. Congratulations. God has blessed you and I am happy for y'all.
Congratulations good job. You are wonderful providing support, nest and a safe environment for them. They are beautiful and she seems to be happy and comfortable with you. One more blessing to count
Tip from an old farm girl here: Keep your shins away from that sows back legs. She can break your leg with one kick. Don't stoop or sit behind her legs. Come around to her side.
They truly are very cavalier around her, live and learn. She's a miraculously calm sow though and doesn't seem to have a problem with them around her piglets at all.
she won't hurt you! not happy when you pick up the little screamers though lol-- wish that I was there to castrate and ivomec and vaccinate-- do all of those please.
Post partum chills are normal and can occur after vaginal or c/s delivery. Not related to anesthesia. Not sure why they occur other than hormonal changes with delivery. I have been a labor & delivery nurse for 40 years. Usually last about an hour. It was very interesting to me to see an animal have the same reaction
Terrific videos, terrific people. You both do an exceptional job and are a pleasure to watch. I always feel privileged that you bring me along on your homestead chores and adventures. Wishing you nothing but the best.
I don't think she is cold, just shaking from the stress of giving birth. Have seen this happen before. But I know you both will keep a close eye on her. God bless you both, and thank you for this video.
It can happen in humans and in other animals. Mama cats often pant after giving birth, or shiver, or both. It can go on for a few days, but it's normal. It seems to be connected to the hormonal changes after giving birth.
She had enough for a first timer. You see how hard it was on her just getting these 5 out in the cold and then nursing them. If she had had more, there probably would have bee n some dead ones or ones that died due to the cold and the stress all around. It's better 5 and healthy, hopefully all will live and thrive instead.
I remember when I was a kid on the farm my Dad would put them under the heat lamps as they were born , that way they became accustomed to the heat lamp. He always put the board across the corner where the heat lamp was and often it accommodated up to 12 piglets. We also gave them iron around the 3 day after birth. Congratulations!
I was just thinking about the iron. I remember we gave our babies iron about the time we castrated them. We haven't raised pigs in years, but, my oldest daughter still has a scar on her knee from a grumpy pig bite.
Great job guys. Been thinking about you all lately with the weather and little piggies on the way. Glad she finally gave birth and for 5 healthy baby pigs! take care and hope it warms up a bit for you all.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you Lord for the safety of the birthing, please continue to be with the piglets. Great job Kevin and Sarah and girls.. thanks for sharing with us. Fred.👏🏻👏🏻👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻

They are all adorable, but the little girl has my heart with her little speckles 😍 So glad they are finally here and healthy! Congrats to you guys and to Myrtle and Charlie on their beautiful babies! I can’t wait to see them grow up! Stay warm!

Aren't they more like sausage seedlings?
Haha!
Lmao. Love the term "bacon seeds". So funny!
That’s as funny as disturbing. 😢😂
PTL for healthy delivery of the beautiful 5 piglets & for getting through that cold night! Well done Myrtle 😁 mxxx

Congratulations on your first babies Myrtle!! You did a fine job!! I’m so glad all were healthy and everyone did great!!
Great footage! Human moms also get the "shakes" post delivery. Im a labor & delivery nurse lol
Human moms get the "shakes" from the anesthesia wearing off.
@@Blessedmama1111 I never had anesthesia ×5. I remember shivers but I thought it was because hospitals are always cold.
Is it gestational diabeties (low sugar) or just muscle strain?

Me too, 8 years I worked in OB, including Nursery and Land D. Plus I had the shivers after my first traumatic birth.
You did good Myrtle! Wonderful news that the piglets are nursing & are healthy. Thanks for sharing the big day Sarah and Kevin. 💕
First thing I did when I woke up was to reach for my phone to check for this video. Congratulations on a successful birth in this weather. Adorable!
Me too!
Me three. Just couldn't wait.
So glad she is doing good ,and Babies are to. So pretty. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations on the new additions. The shivering is from the adrenaline and stress of birth she looks great 🐷
I was wondering why !
Mamas shivering 🥶 baby pigs are so cute!
OMG, thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to watch this beautiful event with you. God bless

Congratulations on your first piglets born on the homestead. Once again great job on sharing your research about the pigs and sharing that knowledge.
How exciting . . . finally! Adorable piglets.

Gave ours warm molasses water to Replenish their energy
I had uncontrollable shivers after all 3 of my babies, it’s natural.
Um, that or cold or low sugar. Low sugar can cause the shakes too. But I don't know if pigs get low sugar.
Congrats to the new momma... good job guys for getting her through to the end game!!
Omg!! They are the cutest little piggies I've ever seen!! Congrats! So happy all went well!🐷🐖
How adorable I LOVE piglets they grow up to be the cutest animals ever.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Listening to Momma snore while she nurses her babies. Sweet.
Congrats! Kevin & Sarah on your first piglet birthings, they all look healthy. Praying that they make it through the cold temps.
She had a great belly, I thought for sure she would have 10 piglets.

Lil girl Charlotte. My autistic son says.
He calls runt. Rocky.
Those are great names!
Yes, the girl needs to be named Charlotte, after her daddy Charlie, she looks the most like her Papa!!

I have been checking everyday to see if Myrtle had her piglets. They are so adorable! Thanks for sharing it with all of your us!
CONGRATULATIONS on the piggies.🐷🐖🐷🐖🐷 and of course the biggest one is the girl.🎉👏
Setting up the camera was such a good idea to watch keeping everyone safe. I wish more farmers would do that.
Gorgeous little piglets. If they stayed that small I would want one.! You guys are so lucky to have watched the birthing. ❤️
I wonder if you could keep the little girl and breed her! She is so pretty!
She’d be one to sell, she’s so pretty
If was me. I would keep her for bleeding. Charlotte will beautiful babies.
You shouldn't breed father to daughter. If they chose to keep her she would have to be bred to a different boar.
You cannot breed her back to her father. Stud fees can be expensive. They will make the right decision

@Heather Leigh can you do the rubber band method on pigs? We always purchase female piglets so I’m curious.
@@SilhouetteParkFarm never heard of that, can't see how that would work.
Both of those things are in the plans!
Pigs anatomy does not allow for the banding method to work. Their testicles lay up against their body unlike sheep or cattle.
