***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

It's normal for the sow to shiver for quite a while after giving birth. It's not because of the temperature. Last night it got down to 12 degrees outside and we left the babies having free range of the pen all night. We checked our camera every couple hours and the babies went back and forth between the lights and Myrtle. Myrtle has been up eating and drinking and this morning everyone is alive and doing well.
Thanks for taking the time to tell us this. I know you are a busy family and now we can stop worrying about Myrtle shivering. Congratulations! AND thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I have learned so much 🙂. God Bless
My family watched the video together this morning. My 8 year old daughter wears an eye patch to strengthen a lazy and it’s on the same side as the female piglet with the black patch on its eye so we named her Haddy after my daughter. Love all your videos. Never know we may be neighbors some day. I have been looking at property in Southern Missouri and one place is listed as Ava, Mo. God bless.
Judging by the first 10 comments I am glad you posted/pinned this.. 100% normal for the sow to shiver, our sow delivered in July and did the exact same thing.. thanks for the video, I can honestly say I've been checking my notifications often waiting for it.. Myrtle did great, definitely a keeper!!
Congratulations!!! For myrtle and you guys!!! Cutest piggies ever🐷🐖🐖🐖🐖
Its normal for mama to shiver....does anyone remember shivering somewhat uncontrollably after having their own children?? It can and does happen!! Our bodies just went through all that work im pretty sure its just an after effect!! Thank you for taking the time to answer! Love your farm and family!! God bless you! Piglets are adorable!!
Those are the cutest little bacon seeds I've ever seen!
Bacon seeds 😂😂😂 that's awesome lol
Aren't they more like sausage seedlings?
Haha!
Lmao. Love the term "bacon seeds". So funny!
That’s as funny as disturbing. 😢😂
Aren't they wonderful! Such precious gifts from God! Christ full bounty!!! AAAAAAAMEN! HUGS TO THESE BABIES!!!!
The runt of the littler you have to name him Wilbur. They are so cute. They are so sweet.
Eeney, Meeney, Miney, Mo, and Curly!
🤣
How about Eeney, Meeney, Miney, Mo, and Charlotte!!
OMG, thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to watch this beautiful event with you. God bless
Congratulations! I was a city girl, so these videos are not only informative but make my heart smile. I know people who raise farm animals try not to fall in love with them because eventually some of them end up on the dinner table, but how could you NOT fall in love with those precious little piggies?! May God bless and keep your entire family (including those with hoofs, webbed feet, fur and feathers) safe and warm.
How adorable I LOVE piglets they grow up to be the cutest animals ever.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations on your first piglets born on the homestead. Once again great job on sharing your research about the pigs and sharing that knowledge.
Tip from an old farm girl here: Keep your shins away from that sows back legs. She can break your leg with one kick. Don't stoop or sit behind her legs. Come around to her side.
Good advice!
They truly are very cavalier around her, live and learn. She's a miraculously calm sow though and doesn't seem to have a problem with them around her piglets at all.
@@MsK-xm7vw It's the "tame" and "calm" ones that hurt you (generally on accident), because you relax your guard around them...
she won't hurt you! not happy when you pick up the little screamers though lol-- wish that I was there to castrate and ivomec and vaccinate-- do all of those please.
Wow good info
Darling piglets, the little girl is so SWEET! And you have another sow expecting soon so congratulations!🎉🎊🎈🍾
With there only being 5 little piggies they are going to be WELL FED piglets 🐷🐖 so adorable
First thing I did when I woke up was to reach for my phone to check for this video. Congratulations on a successful birth in this weather. Adorable!
Me too!
Me three. Just couldn't wait.
Omg!! They are the cutest little piggies I've ever seen!! Congrats! So happy all went well!🐷🐖
You did good Myrtle! Wonderful news that the piglets are nursing & are healthy. Thanks for sharing the big day Sarah and Kevin. 💕
Today is Saturday March 18, 2023 and I keep going back to this video, cuz those babies are so dang cute. I absolutely love them.
Lil girl Charlotte. My autistic son says.
He calls runt. Rocky.
Those are great names!
Yes, the girl needs to be named Charlotte, after her daddy Charlie, she looks the most like her Papa!!
Great names! I’m changing my vote to Charlotte and Rocky!
I agree. These names
Great names.
How very precious.....nothing cuter than baby piglets. Thank you for bringing us along on this journey..
There is nothing like seeing those tiny little babies up next to there mother they are so beautiful so adoreable I so want some more babies ,my mother ,passed not to long ago she was so old .she just couldnt go on any longer ,she's a good moma we sold pigs and we had our meat for a long time and we still have meat .I just love to see you new babies they are so precious. CONGRATULATIONS.
The piglets are adorable, what a blessing for Myrtle to have uncomplicated birthing.
Y'all did a really nice job helping Myrtle out. Thank you for sharing this with us, take care, keep warm and God bless..
Listening to Momma snore while she nurses her babies. Sweet.
Congratulations on the new additions. The shivering is from the adrenaline and stress of birth she looks great 🐷
I was wondering why !
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you Lord for the safety of the birthing, please continue to be with the piglets. Great job Kevin and Sarah and girls.. thanks for sharing with us. Fred.👏🏻👏🏻👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻
Is there anything cuter than a baby pig? Congrats on your newest family members, they are adorable!
I can't believe how excited I got about Myrtle's giving birth. I am a 52 year old man. I don't usually get excited about anything. lol. Congratulations. God has blessed you and I am happy for y'all.
Wow what great film coverage. We could see everything going on. Such an experience. Thanks for sharing. Congratulations to u all.
I've never had the honor of seeing a pig birth. So beautiful! She just popped that first one out!😂
Thanks for sharing this!💜
Awe, what beautiful babies, lil' piglets are absolutely adorable. I'm so glad they came without any difficulties - congratulations, Myrtle!
PTL,we are rejoicing with you. Thank you for sharing Mrytles labor and her little piglets.
What cute little piglets. Everyone looked super healthy. What a cold night night to be born but Mama handled it like an old pro.
I don't think she is cold, just shaking from the stress of giving birth. Have seen this happen before. But I know you both will keep a close eye on her. God bless you both, and thank you for this video.
Yes!
It can happen in humans and in other animals. Mama cats often pant after giving birth, or shiver, or both. It can go on for a few days, but it's normal. It seems to be connected to the hormonal changes after giving birth.
Gave ours warm molasses water to Replenish their energy
I had uncontrollable shivers after all 3 of my babies, it’s natural.
Um, that or cold or low sugar. Low sugar can cause the shakes too. But I don't know if pigs get low sugar.
CONGRATULATIONS on the piggies.🐷🐖🐷🐖🐷 and of course the biggest one is the girl.🎉👏
PTL for healthy delivery of the beautiful 5 piglets & for getting through that cold night! Well done Myrtle 😁 mxxx
Setting up the camera was such a good idea to watch keeping everyone safe. I wish more farmers would do that.
She had a great belly, I thought for sure she would have 10 piglets.
Well the 5 piglets will have lots to nurse from.
She had enough for a first timer. You see how hard it was on her just getting these 5 out in the cold and then nursing them. If she had had more, there probably would have bee n some dead ones or ones that died due to the cold and the stress all around. It's better 5 and healthy, hopefully all will live and thrive instead.
Congratulations on your first babies Myrtle!! You did a fine job!! I’m so glad all were healthy and everyone did great!!
Congratulations on the piglets!! Everyone looks great! I really liked the idea of the security camera. You wouldn't believe how many times I've spent the night in the barn waiting for animals to have their babies. But it is all worth it. God bless you all.
They are beautiful babies. Good job bringing them in the world. God bless y'all. In Jesus name.
I have been checking everyday to see if Myrtle had her piglets. They are so adorable! Thanks for sharing it with all of your us!
As soon as we got power and net service was restored I logged on to see if Myrtle had her babies. I got tearful watching. Thank you for sharing your amazing adventurers with this 80y/o city girl.
Praise God for a safe and healthy delivery for Myrtle! So cute!!
Congratulations ! But Mama needs a blanky !
Mama needs the heat lamp. The babies will stay with Mama for the most part so they will all be cold! Move the board for the next few nights so they can all be warm.
Great footage! Human moms also get the "shakes" post delivery. Im a labor & delivery nurse lol
Human moms get the "shakes" from the anesthesia wearing off.
@@WildChildMetalMom I never had anesthesia ×5. I remember shivers but I thought it was because hospitals are always cold.
Is it gestational diabeties (low sugar) or just muscle strain?
Post partum chills are normal and can occur after vaginal or c/s delivery. Not related to anesthesia. Not sure why they occur other than hormonal changes with delivery. I have been a labor & delivery nurse for 40 years. Usually last about an hour. It was very interesting to me to see an animal have the same reaction
Me too, 8 years I worked in OB, including Nursery and Land D. Plus I had the shivers after my first traumatic birth.
So happy Myrtle had her piglets! The female is such a nice looking piglet!
Never experienced watching a piglet birth. Thank you for staying up all night to share this occasion with all of us. Glad they are all okay and that you have at least one little girl to maybe breed.. congratulations on your first farrowing success. 🐖🐷🐽
Oh joy !! Babies!
Good bacon seeds there....Lovely bunch....
They are all adorable, but the little girl has my heart with her little speckles 😍 So glad they are finally here and healthy! Congrats to you guys and to Myrtle and Charlie on their beautiful babies! I can’t wait to see them grow up! Stay warm!

🤩🤩🤩 So happy that everyone is healthy! I didn't think she would have a huge litter being it's her 1st. Also glad she is a gentle mom for ypu
Hooray. Congratulations. I bet the girls are excited. Is Charlie handing out cigars ?
aww what a blessing babies
O wow that was awesome! The babies r gorgeous especially the black spotted one. Watching this has brought a lot of memories from my childhood. Im glad everyone is doin well.U all take care an stay warm. GOD BLESS TO EACH AN EVERYONE STAY SAFE. LUV TO ALL 💞💖😘🙏🕊🌹
So glad everyone is doing well. Looking forward to watching their progress .
Get out the calculator and the micrometer. Check the temps and the wind direction, as well as the phase of the moon. Adjust the humidity and get out the divining rod. Then go back in the house and just watch the camera. Critters don't seem to care about all the fussing we do .... they have their own biological clocks wound up nice and tight. Badda bing ... badda boom .... we have piggels! Congrats to you guys, and of course Myrtle the Magnificent Momma.
More pork to feed human bellies 👵
I've heard people say they give their sows a beer after having her babies to reward/calm her. I think that's precious and so kind.
Momma looks like she was freezing..she didn't stop shivering 😔 those piglets 😍😍
I am so so happy everyone can rest now. You guys work so hard on your farm. I am proud of you. I also am glad mama pig is not mean to you. God bless and the weather will be good soon.
So glad Myrtle finally had her brood, cute little piglets
Is that what they call them, brood?
Congratulations! Myrtle, Kevin & Sarah! It is so rewarding to have successful births with your animals. Love you guys and love, love your channel!!!
so glad Myrtle and babies doing well. nothing cuter than a piglet
So sweet! The little girl is gorgeous but they're all so adorable!
They are so cute! I’ve never seen baby pigs before and was so surprised how small they are. Thank you for taking such good care of your animals.
God bless her and her babies. I thought she would have had more. So excited. How wonderful new life on the Homestead. 💙💜💚❤️🧡💛🤠👍👍🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Please please please I love her! When I saw her the first time she popped up on the video. She's tugging on my heart strings.
I just knew I would find a piggies video this morning!
So glad piglets are here!!
Pray for C&J Funny Farm. Her Tuna Pig's babies didn't survive and it was a rough delivery 😪
Oh no! :-(
😢
I’m sorry 😞
So sorry for your loss
Oh! I love the little spotted one! I grinned through the whole video. The miracle of life always brings joy. 💜💛
Awww so adorable..she had some healthy piglets.. you are guys are great with your animals and looking out for them. It will pay off for you.. Congratulations Myrtle and Humans.. 😊
Myrtle is so cute and she did such a good job. What a blessing those little ones are too the homestead!
Active little piggies. Interesting colors, love the freckles. God Bless.
Congratulations on your first litter of piglets! They are beautiful and healthy. Myrtle looks like she will be a great Mama. Hopefully, Mildred will be giving you more piglets soon.
Thanks for sharing. Such an awesome thing to watch. Myrtle has a great temperament with just having babies. I love how your family cares for these farm animals.
The easiest way to check when a sow or gilt is close to farrowing is to pull on a teat, if you get milk she is within a day or two.
Congratulations to 5 lovely piglets. Myrtle did very well
Congrats to Myrtle & y'all for the new additions to your family... Beautiful Piglets ♥️
Yeah Myrtle,
Congratulations! 👶👶👶👶👶
❤
I remember when I was a kid on the farm my Dad would put them under the heat lamps as they were born , that way they became accustomed to the heat lamp. He always put the board across the corner where the heat lamp was and often it accommodated up to 12 piglets. We also gave them iron around the 3 day after birth. Congratulations!
I was just thinking about the iron. I remember we gave our babies iron about the time we castrated them. We haven't raised pigs in years, but, my oldest daughter still has a scar on her knee from a grumpy pig bite.
This was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen ... thanks for bringing us along ... remember to stay safe and stay blessed
So beautiful to see the birthing of precious little lives! Blessings abound!
That little baby girl pig has such great coloring, you should keep her. Congratulations on your pig's births.
Yes, she is shevering....omg that dot it one is too cute....
I agree, the dotted one is cute.
I wonder if you could keep the little girl and breed her! She is so pretty!
She’d be one to sell, she’s so pretty
If was me. I would keep her for bleeding. Charlotte will beautiful babies.
You shouldn't breed father to daughter. If they chose to keep her she would have to be bred to a different boar.
You cannot breed her back to her father. Stud fees can be expensive. They will make the right decision
@@joannmahaffey1068 In Ohio, we share or rent boars. There is no stud fee per pig. Pick him up in your trailer and turn him loose with the sows and gilts you want covered, then return him when the deeds are done. And for market hogs, the sire doesn't really matter for one generation...
It's amazing to see how nature takes its course especially in cold weather I am so happy that the piglets are healthy and mama is happy and things are going well it's truly a blessing and I think the spotted little girl pig is adorable I am so happy for you all!!😊🙏💞🐷
Beautiful babies wish she would have held out another week when this freezing weather passes the baby girl is just beautiful ❤️
Just adorable. So glad the birth went well and they are healthy.
i remember when we had our first and only litter, hubby casterated the boys and our teenager son about cried. I will never forget how rewarding it was for us
Gorgeous little piglets. If they stayed that small I would want one.! You guys are so lucky to have watched the birthing. ❤️
Congratulations Myrtle, Sarah and Kevin, they are all beautiful! Praying for warm weather for you.
Congrats on the piglets. Myrtle will need more straw to root around in to stay warm on freezing nights. Best wishes!
Oh the babies are so cute. Momma is doing well and everything looks amazing. Congratulations on your first litter. God bless y’all.
Congratulations 🎉👏👏🎉 Loved seeing all the piglets. Myrtle was such a good girl. I know she appreciated all the hard work you and Sarah put into making her delivery area so nice and clean and warm. Kevin was so gentle with piglets and giving Myrtle rubs and scratches. She knew her and her babies were safe with you guys! ❤ Much love from West Virginia ❤❤
I have been watching since you had Myrtle out in the snow. Yeah for Myrtle. Piglets are so cute. God Bless all of you and Myrtle and the piglets.
Hi there, congratulations.
My husband raised pigs in Michigan. He said to keep the pigs warmer! Stretch a tarp across the pin about 3 feet off the ground . like a ceiling..
It will trap the heat in from mom pig and your heat lamps.
The baby's are so cute !!
🍼🐷🐷💖🐷
Great investment and time for all
Pretty little piglets glad that everything came out well God bless and stay safe
Congratulations on your first baby piglets. I'm so excited for your family.
Good job Myrtle and babes, mom and dad! What a Blessing!
