KE100 Kawasaki LOCKED UP ... but why?

- Purchased a 1999 Kawasaki KE100, with the exception of this motorbike not running due to it being locked up, it is in virtually new condition. After a month of trying to sell this thing to make a couple bucks without success, I decided to see what's wrong with it and then attempt to sell again in running condition. Ahh... the "Time Bomb". The warranty resolution, after replacement of the top end parts, was to install a one tooth larger front sprocket. Given the excessive failure rate, you'd think they'd just do that before it was ever allowed out the door, but the policy was to wait for it to actually fail.
Going up one size on the main jet was a big help as well, but for emission reasons, the manufacturer couldn't officially recommend it.

Biggest problem with the cylinder on the some what newer KE / G5 bikes, it's fully aluminum with a nikasil lining, using a hone is not a good idea cause it can / will take the lining off the walls. It's also why it's not a good idea to put a wiseco in there, wiseco's rings are not treated for the lining in the cylinder, they clearly say " Not for nikasil / electro fusion ". The older bikes were sleeved, no issues there, a jug from an old one drops right in, bike is just like the XR's in that they haven't changed much, if any, their entire production run.

The bore is plated. Won't it need to be replated after honing it out? I'd recommend repriming the oil injection system and making sure the pump is working and set properly. It's sure nice to see it get fixed up.
I will look into plating but I don't think it will be necessary, I agree priming the oil system needs to be done, if it even works. Thanks for watching!

That means no oil on the crank bearing and running the oil pump dry...bad.bad.bad.

I paid $100 for one that looked a lot worse to learn on 😭 bought it at night and the guy didn’t tell me the kick starter was locked up 🫡
