Hi and welcome. Sadly to say that accommodation is quite expensive in SG, but how often do you get a safe and clean room for USD 80-100 that is only 5KM from the city center with good food and shops literally 10-50m away (there are like 3 coffee shops near your hotel)? Hawker Centers & Food courts are usually cheaper options. There are like 2 hawker centers near your hotel (Tekka, Jalan Besah). Hawker Centers and coffee shops are not "cheap food" but in a way they are the best foods.....50 to 100 stalls side by side and they are still there, some for over 30-50 years....if they are not good or too expensive, that stall would have closed down (sad reality). Some of my overseas friends came and they actually recommended me (a local) that one of their fav budget things to do was to take double decker buses...they would just get the 3 day (it is a 72 hour pass that starts from the time you start 1st trip) tourist pass (red or blue) for just $29 (or $24 if you choose the white tourist card that need to be returned).a What they do is around 7pm, take literally any bus to the bus terminal more centralized as almost all bus terminals have malls, food courts and hawker centers within 3 minute walk ! Some can even have multiple malls, food courts and hawker centers like AMK (Ang Mo Kio) or TPY (Toa Payoh) or Clementi or Bedok. Then from the centralized bus terminal, they would head to the East (Bedok, Airport) or North East (Punggol, Seng Kang) or West (Jurong, Boon Lay) end of the Island depending where they are, then from that bus terminal, they find the bus to go to the other side. Points to note is that the last "cross town" bus form bus terminals is usually around 2300-2330 and last train from each end is also around 2300.
it makes sense why you traveled in Singapore on a smaller budget for two. Though for those who might travel in Singapore once in a life time, then I'd recommend budgeting approx. $300 SD/day (food-transportation-lodging-entertainment).. that will make for a more memorable experience plus you get to afford going to all the must-visit attractions.. and in 7-9 days you can visit all the best places in Singapore in an unrushed / chill way. The once in a lifetime experience would be well worth it!
Singapore can definitely be affordable and still having an amazing time! I much preferred my time in Singapore than Malaysia. Malaysia please don’t sue me in court for this!!
You missed the light show at MBS during evenings. It’s free of course. Sun - Thurs, 8pm and 9pm. There’s also hot spring @ Sembawang. Maybe visit Pulau Ubin for more nature and off beaten track.
Should go to Chinatown hawker at 2nd floor, so many food stalls n better quality n cheaper than Maxwell hawker which is a tourists hawker! Around the area there is a Hong Lim hawker which has very good curry puff too
Can try to go into Sentosa to explore the small island and look for peacock that roam about. Only 3 dollars entry fee. But remember to pack a bottle of water and top up water whenever u sed any water dispenser there. Also pack some food there too. Food and water are very expensive in sentosa.
Should try visiting hawker centre in Chinatown called Chinatown food centre. It is the biggest hawker centre in Singapore and is usually busier in the morning and afternoon. There's a wet market at the basement floor. Strangely, a lot of tourist videos I've seen will visit Chinatown but miss this biggest hawker centre and go to Maxwell LOL.
Treetop walk means a long hike. I'm from near macritchie there so lemme tell u those monkeys are a headache but if u go on a cooler season like now and bring a couple of snacks (not a ginormous hamper) u'll enjoy it
Free alternative to the MBS Skypark observation deck try... Sky Garden at CapitaSpring, awesome views! Nice walk to try... start Marina Barage, cross over the dam, walk to the National Stadium. Mount Faber to the Southern Ridges is a nice walk also. Or the southern part of the Green Rail corridor, Bukit Timah to Tanjong Pagar.
@@thenordicadamif you like the nature and walks, I would recommend going to the Redhill/ Henderson area, and walk from the Henderson Wave (interesting bridge) uo on Mount Faber, and take a walk all the way to Vivocity (Habourfront), have a meal at the hawker centre at Seah Im Food Centre, and if you're up for it, take the boardwalk (free entry) into Sentosa, where there are also lots of free activities to visit, though there's also a lot of paid activities too.
@@thenordicadam another interesting fact to know about Singapore, is that the Singapore government is big on encouraging the public (and SG citizens) to exercise, while also spending more time with our families. Thus, to encourage these, they have made all public carparks free on Sundays near all public areas (e.g. government public housing, public parks, etc). And to encourage more physical activities at these places, they also install free drinking station (water coolers as we call them, providing free drinking water) at most, if not all, public areas (e.g. public parks, public libraries, etc) and many major tourist spots. You can even find these water stations in the Changi Airport Jewel, zoos, gardens by the bay, all around Sentosa, including Universal Studios Singapore, etc etc. :)
Singapore is the perfect place to check out if you are on a cruise. You already have floating accommodation so your biggest expense is already covered. Btw I have seen an overturned bin in Singapore with cigarette butts strewn over the pavement.
Singapore is known for Housing affordable, food affordable, transport affordable, our gov all capable, world class, bring us to what we are today, We can definitely continue to be No.1 most expensive city. Even if all price is rising every few months, gov is there to help us, giving packages, for us to tide over. Coming Jan, gst will be 9%, most price will rise again, I am happy, cos raise tax is to help the poor
In Singapore , MRT train fare $1.50 to $2 for 30 minutes journey , taxi fare about $2 for 1 minute journey , hawker food $4 to $5. Even meal at normal restaurants are say $15 to $20 per person. Are these expensive compared to most Western European countries ?
I'd say it's pretty comparable. In Copenhagen, where I live, the metro is more expensive - and there are really not any cheap options for eating out, like hawker centres.
Try kaya toast for breakfast instead. It's light comfort food (toast, half-boiled eggs, hot coffee/tea), affordable & easily digestible. Lots of eateries sell it but if you want air-con as well, there's a Ya Kun outlet at Tekka Place (opposite Rochor MRT station, 2 buildings away from Tekka Hawker Centre). Even a Starbucks as well. I believe the Fun Toast outlet at the said MRT basement has shuttered during the pandemic, though. If your hotel is nearer to Farrer Park MRT, there's a Toast Box outlet at City Square Mall (a modern mall which also has fast food, food courts, patisseries, bubble tea, Asian restaurants). The building entrance has an underground walkway to the MRT.
Welcome to Singapore! You really show many beautiful places that are budget friendly. The best food are found in the cheap hawker centres, so its a great choice to have your meals there! We locals love our hawker centres too.
