Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 гру 2021
- An Irish-born spirit, aged for five years in ex-bourbon casks and finished in new oak - produced by the famous New York bar.
Big thanks to TITAN of Whisk[e]y William Schappert. All hail!
The Dead Rabbits were a violent Irish street gang and crime ring in 19th-century New York City, centered in the Five Points neighborhood (which no longer exists). In July 1857, a “war” between the Dead Rabbits and the Bowery Boys resulted in around a hundred serious injuries, and at least eight deaths- possibly many more, because the gangs were rumored to have buried fallen members in cellars secretly.
Gangs of New York great movie
I think this is some of the best Irish whiskey I've ever had !
I am a manager at a boutique grocery store and I always recommend the Sugar Bee to the customers asking for a tasty apple! We get some great whiskeys too; I picked up a bottle of Weller Full Proof recently.
Great way to start the day
Idea for will it distill: cotton candy grape Brandy.
Brandy is already distilled though?
@@joshpressel4930 you distill the grapes into Brandy
A bowl of vanilla ice cream with maple syrup and half a shot of any whiskey. Amazing.
Great episode, thank you for the review... I feel that Dead Rabbit is at least a 5/10, I actually enjoyed the bottle. Have a great day peeps :)
Do you buy two of every bottle you send?
@@brianfreund1 Most of the time yes…. Unless it’s the shenanigan bottles or if funding is tight and I can pick it up again later…. Examples: the cheap Canadians!!!’ And there are a few in the queue I didn’t get 2 cause I know I can pick them up at a later date when traveling!!!
Is that 5 squirrels out of 10 Lollipops?
@@joshpressel4930 5 limp biscuits out of 10 mythic bungholes!
Been waiting a year to see this be reviewed! One of my favorite Irish whiskeys because I do love the wood notes that make it unique from the rest of them in my cabinet.
I hope you enjoy it :)
I'm guessing the whiskey is dry on purpose, since it's designed to be mixed into cocktails.
Bartenders often prefer dry spirits since they can customize the sweetness level of the resulting cocktail later by adding different amounts of simple syrup.
🎶like a bourbon
Fills a cask for the very first time
Like a booouuuurrrrrrrbon

Apple pie and bourbon. Heaven!
Good Morning MB's
Haven't watched the video yet but this whiskey I've had several times and it's amazing! Great bottle!
Good Morning Gentlemen.
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
Like a Bourbon.. hey..
touched for the very first time... like a Boooouuurrrrbon...
Found this out while backpacking - Peanut Butter M&M's and Knob Creek 9 yr. Mind Blown
Seriously?? Tell me about it. I have the 9 but have a secret santa and would love to offer the pair if good
@@Juniperlaneestatesales it’s crazy but it brings out all the sweetness of the Knob. I think it’s because you get desensitized to the peanut due to the M&Ms. Worst case scenario they have good whiskey and great candy.
Gangs of New York is an epic movie! I did a video about Dead Rabbit about a year ago AND I did mention that movie too! Funny enough I bout the bottle at Irene Tan's store to boot. It's not a favorite by any means considering the options of Irish whiskey that I typically have on hand, interesting whiskey to say the least and I still want to visit the bar in NY! And thank you for mentioning Volbeat, I went straight to Spotify... only to realize I was already following them. They have a bit of a Misfits/Danzig vibe to me.
Great budget bottle. Taste really good and doesn’t cost much
Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream are the best chip of all time. Rex and Daniel continue to reenforce my dedication to the whiskey tribe!
I haven’t tried too many whiskies yet, but I picked up a bottle of this stuff because it had the coolest label (and wasn’t too expensive), and so far this is my favorite whiskey. Each sip has like 20 different sensations that don’t hit you at the same time. My very first sip had a quick slight metallic zing (that I loved), but only that very first sip. Still a great drink.
But can it be mixed? 🤔
Volbeat ROCKS
Roasted salted shelled pistachios.
Place five or six in a Glencairn glass. Pour bourbon in. Sip and enjoy bourbon . Then enjoy your bourbon-soaked pistachios🎅
Thank you for the tip on the Apple Daniel. You guys have a great day.
Peanut butter goes well with any whisky I have ever tried and tequila and red wine and coffee. I think I just like peanut butter.
I went to Dead Rabbit around 5 years ago and I wasn’t that amazed. The hype was too much I thought? I really think the Irish coffees from the Buena Vista Bar in San Francisco was way better!
I've been to Buena Vista a few times, and the Irish coffee did not disappoint. It is the Irish coffee that I judge my own against.
I don’t know what it tastes like, but I named one of my farts, “the dead rabbit,” because it stunk like one.
Love Volbeat 🤘🥃 cheers ya MB's
West Cork Distillery do a nice virgin oak finished Irish single malt. The wood influence is huge on that one but I didn't find it to be especially bitter, more toasted nuts.
Not food but had Dr. Pepper while I was also drinking Monkey Shoulder and Johnnie 18 and I don't remember which one it was at the time but after having had some Dr. P I remember finding a kind of citrus and clove note that I never remember finding before.
Rolos and nikka from the barrel is amazing
Pairing... Please, please, please try chili chees Fritos with Red Breast 12. One of the best pairings in all of whiskeydom! No joke.
I have that bottle and really like it. But it IS very different for an Irish!
Daniel knows the DRY wood note 📝 🤣👍🇦🇺
Cool thing about Volbeat, the guy wears Metallica shirts and has a Social Distortion tattoo.
Had Dead Rabbit and liked it. Thought about sending it in. But now don't have to. Good morning MB's.
Bacon. Not just thick slice, full on SLAB. Like anywhere from 4 to 6 ounces in a single piece. Grilled to tender perfection. Cut into bite size pieces.
The beltway to know food pairings for bourbon is to visit a classy Blues club in Chicago and puruse the food menu
Volbeat also has a Rum and I'm pretty sure someone sent you a bottle. I could swear you have mentioned them before.
hysterical because i am watching this eating chex mix and drinking jim beam black extra aged..pretty good.
Love Volbeat! I have gone to several of their shows.
I love peanuts with single-pot still whiskey. Don't know why it works but somehow it does.
pickeled silverskin onions and whiskey (any whisk(e)y) is my go to snack
Sea salt chocolate caramels and bourbon.👍
When I worked produce we would get those cotton candy grapes time to time, try freezing them and eat like that. You wont regret it, very tasty.
Sitting after a long fucked up work month with one month to go sipping on Dead Rabbit... They are missing the bitterness. Or is that just me?
3:15 those are just grapes bred to be extra sweet, its also banking off of the fact that cotton candy is just sugar heated slightly then spun.
Sugarbee apples are incredible
Ah I bet they'd like it more if it was called "The Alive Rabbit". Cheers MBs
Try the Jalapeño Ranch Ruffles
It sounds to me that it would be really good in a few years when it mellowed out. Either that or serve with one piece of ice.
Volbeat is a very cool band.... metal meets Elvis...........
Hello guys, I need to ask how to prepare new oak barrel for aging whiskey? 😊
Needs more Irish coffee
Watching @ 9:30 pm 👍
Hey MB's, I'm trying to develop my palate by slowly (and more appropriately...."responsibly") buying and trying different whiskeys. I get the whole trying to taste and smell different baking and cooking spices, different flavours from different fruits, foods, essences etc, etc. But when it comes to barrel tannin's, how can you develop that, or pin point that in a whiskey? I seem to be lacking access to a previously used whiskey barrel to stick my head in and experience those lovely tannins and form the memory in my brain.
Tannins in general have its own taste. Tannins are in many things but most noticeable in tea and dry red wines. I can taste the same "tannins" in tea wine and whiskey. In whiskey it comes from the barrel and gives a dry finish just like in wine. When whiskey stays to long in the barrel ( yes its a thing) it gets dryer and slightly astringent because of tannins. Hope this helps!
Leave a tea bag (black tea) in a cup of boiling water for way too long, and you’ll have a good sample of tannins. Also, since the tannins in question are (usually) from oak wood, try tasting a piece of oak. I’m serious. Cut a shaving of oak, lick it, then chew on it (carefully, so you don’t get splinters). Acorns and oak leaves also contain tannins. Sawing or sanding an oak board will also give you a good exposure to the smells.
A few whiskeys are aged in other species of wood, such as birch or cypress. You can taste and smell those woods, too, to give you a basis for comparison.
@@censusgary It's worth noting that acorns are actually toxic unless they're prepared correctly, so don't go around putting them in your mouth unless you've looked up how to make them safe for consumption.
@@stockicide Naaah. If you eat a pound of unprocessed acorns, you’ll get a tummy ache. But if you just touch your tongue to a raw acorn kernel, nothing will happen except that you’ll have an unpleasantly astringent taste in your mouth. I’ve done it, and so have half the other people on earth.
By the way, the way to make them edible is to leach all the tannin out of the acorns, by soaking them in water with multiple changes of water.
@@robzilla69 Thank you very much for the reply. This is very useful. This has been a cool and interesting journey so far and really glad to have this channel and all you MB's to give advice :)
I think I need to find a bottle of this.
Ahh that’s why they made the comic book change it’s name. It was good too
Can you review The Quiet Man whiskey please 👍.
I’ve wanted to get this bottle so bad!!! My state doesn’t sell it, there is only a hand full that do. I would love to have one and if anyone can help me out on getting it I will be grateful.
Never heard of Volbeat!?!?! WTH gents!
Love gangs of new York!!!
Dead Rabbit is the base for the majority of the cocktails of Dead rabbit Grocer and Grog.. which btw they won Tales of the cocktail and won best cocktail book. JSYK... Dead rabbit is amazing. Laid to rest in first fill american bourbon barrels for 5 yrs and finished in virgin american oak to get some added notes.. you may want to do better research before you bash my fav whiskey
bacon cheddar pork rinds and rye...
When are you guys going to respond to Matt Porter, the World's Greatest Whiskey Taster? 🤔
You dont know Volbeat? They cover Johnny Cash.
Volbeat is for hipsters. Pantera died for the 'Tribe.
Snyder’s of Berlin Garlic Parmesan potato ships 😜😋
This whiskey tastes like Jim Beam and Bushmill's had a kid.
Words......words.....words
Dead Rabbit isn’t meant as a neat pour. It’s phenomenal in Irish Coffee!
Odd pairing: Octomore and hot Cheetos, no lie.
Hmmmm. Wednesday is here.
Try pistachios with whiskey
I am like 1000. That is all
Blue cheese and Laphroaig
This may sound odd but often if I'm feeling thirsty just before bed, I'll grab an orange soda out of the fridge. Then halfway through drinking that, I'll get a craving for a glass of whisky. Laphroaig goes really well with orange soda. And no I don't mean mixed.
1st
I tried this on a venture. horrible. I had to dump it
I got this. Eh.
I feel like Daniel is an insanely picky eater…and doesn’t eat much fruit. He definitely hasn’t had those cotton Candy grapes just saying. Or maybe he was just reacting to it very weirdly idk.
Either way, great whiskey taster.
He is a finicky hobbit more than just food. One of his quirks that make him interesting. See what I did there Daniel? 🤣
I just drank it for the first time and I don't like it.
Nasty....why?????
