Dude. So tired of whiskey tubers telling the industry “I’d pay way more for this bottle.” Prices are already crazy enough. Let’s not lose the good affordable bottles!
100%. Last Kentucky Derby I added like 5 new bourbons and stopped chasing the elusive and now overpriced selections that are being hoarded by douches who don’t even really love whiskey. Milam and Greene, Barrel Spirits, Penelope and Belle Meade all are heavy hitters that can actually be found for purchase. I’m almost afraid to talk about my value picks because I know they’ll be gone overnight!

I worry so much about Turkey products. I found 101 early on in my bourbon journey. Thought I found the best kept secret. Always thought I could find their “core products” whenever I wanted. While that stays true for 101(for now), R.B. and R.R.S.B has become almost impossible to find in my area.
Cooper’s Craft 100 for $30 blows away alot of more expensive bourbons also! Notes of chocolate, dark caramel, coffee & oak with a great mouthfeel. -Russ
@Cahaba Tunes Agreed. After it opens up a bit, there’s a strawberry/orange note (I know it sounds weird) that I haven’t gotten in anything else; good stuff.

Was in Idaho a couple weeks ago and found a bottle of Rare Breed on sale for $35 at one of the state run liquor stores. Also snatched up a bottle of 1792 SB for $32. Yeah, it was a good trip.
I wanted to end to the end of the video but I totally agree with you. Especially on the Wild Turkey. You can't beat it for less than $25. I live in Kentucky and have access to everything. I pass up $30-$40 bottles on my shelf all the time for Wild Turkey. It's a great distillery. They don't make a bad product. Most are reasonably priced. Especially compared to their competitors.
I love the Wild Turkeys, but I'd add to the list the Knob Creek Single Barrel which is at least 9 years old (often more with a good store pick), and 120 proof, which can still be found for around $50. I also just got a KC Single Barrel Rye about 5 years old and 115 proof for $45. Both really good, especially for the price. I'd give Four Roses standard Single Barrel 100 proof an honorable mention, with it also coming in at about $45 to $50 in my area.
My list: Eagle Rare, 1792 SmB (I can't find the variations), Redwood Empire Pipe Dream, Cooper's Craft 100, Michter's SmB, John J Bowman SiB. All homeruns for the MSRP...
OGD 114 and WT 101...nuff said...simple, but easy options...and decent mixers. I just picked up the Redwood Empire rye (emerald giant, I think it was)...knocked my socks off, and outperformed the Jack Daniels single barrel rye I opened afterwards...I'll have to explore those other options, methinks. Rare Breed...fantastic...picked up the RB Rye, I liked the standard option so much.
Lost Monarch is a heavy hitter in my book. I love it. The other "under the radar" bottle to try is Duke at $40. It's a surprise to everyone I serve it to.
I just bought a bottle of oak and Eden tonight, I’m sipping on a glass now and I like it, it was $47 a bottle, never had it before but I may grab another in the future.
Agree with your list. I would add Longbranch, especially for non-bourbon fan boys. If they would release a barrel proof of that juice, I bet it would be fantastic. The only criticism is low proof. Rare breed is definitely on my always on the bar list as is Eagle Rare.
Did a quick search and found old grandad 114 in several stores around me in NoVa. Btw took your advise and picked up a bottle of John J Bowman. So good. Tons of flavor, first sip kind of smacks you in the face but a really good sipper.
I'm new to bourbon enjoyed the video. I have tried a pretty good variety and continuing the journey. So far my # 1 is Four Roses small batch. There are so many to choose from and videos like yours help decide what's next. Thank you
I have tried a LOT of bourbons, and wasted a lot of money. I keep going back to 4roses sm batch and sm batch select. Coin flop between that and Russell’s 10yr.
might i suggest Bulliet i've found that while a little more pricey it's a fantastic bourbon i don't know if they have less than 750 mil bottles but they may in your area i suggest trying it out.
I'm fairly new to bourbon and my list includes Four Roses single barrel, Old Forrester 1920, Old grandad bonded, Early times Bottled in bond and definitely Wild Turkey 101
Was sitting in a restaurant bar and saw all the usual suspects (Jack, Crown, Makers, etc) and I wanted a good bourbon. Saw they had Wild Turkey 101 and decided to try it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be adding it to my shelves.
So informative as always: • WT101 (not for me but I understand some love it) • Redwood Empire (Awesome bottle) • Eagle Rare (one of my favorite pours - huge huge fan and I have a SiB pick that is amazing) • 1792 SiB (don’t have one nor have I tasted it but I see it from time to time) • Rare Breed (sublime and just really good. Still would prefer Eagle Rare but this is great)
Good video, thanks for posting it. I have WT101, Eagle Rare, and WT Rare Breed, and they’re all excellent choices that I have bought second (or more) bottles of. I’ll need to looked for the others. The 1792 is on my list to try. I would also recommend the WT 101 Rye and Rare Breed Rye for rye lovers. Thanks again.
@@givannimikel4586 ET BIB was never available in CA under BF but the Saz version just hit some stores here for under $20. I want to set up a blind with Saz ET BIB, BF ET BIB, OF 100, OF Signature (the old 100 proof OF), and Cooper's Craft Reserve.
I totally agree. Turkey has become my favorite distillery. Let the ppl chase the buffalo trace stuff and ill just give all the turkey and the ECBPs my love.
I've had all of these except Redwood Empire and I have to agree with your picks. Looks like you and I have a pretty similar palate. Despite being a Kentucky snob, I'll have to try the Redwood Empire!
Interesting show. There’s always something new to learn about whiskey. Everyone has different taste buds. Some people love chicken, some fish, everybody’s taste buds are different. I did not like the 1792. Other ones that were recommended to me like four roses and knob Creek that people just raved about I was not impressed with whatsoever. You recommended The Wild Turkey 101 which I always felt was a very good whiskey. Love Buffalo trace. Lots of good medium priced bourbons out there for sure.
Eagle Rare has been one of my top 5 for a long time now. Unfortunately, it can be a little pricey now in some areas. I'm still able to find it around $40-$45 here in Nashville though.
Have to agree with the first 2 and the last one, the others not so much. I would agree with the Eagle Rare too if I could buy it for $40. Have one I bought 5 years ago for $41, if I ever see another I'll buy it and crack this one. Never seen a bottle of Redwood Empire and never been that impressed with 1792. I've only had a couple but they were really middle of the road to me.
Gotta say - I agree with all of your picks for good product for your buck- except the Redwood Empire- we dont get that one up here in Canada yet! I was in Michigan for a concert at the beinning of May, and I picked up a bottle of Evan Williams- Bottled in Bond for $19. Freakin amazing. Like WT 101, great flavours, reasonable complexity drinkable neat,, with a splash of water , or on the rocks . Rare Breed is one of my favourites as well... one I often recommend to people exploring bourbon. I enjoy your show! Keep on keepin' on!

Great video! I agree with your take on Eagle Rare. My favorite so far. Picked up my first bottle in Kentucky for 64 bucks and got my second for about 39 in Ohio.
Agree on the ER and 101. For price you almost can't beat it. Grabbed a bottle of the redwood empire rye but haven't cracked it open yet. Been on a makers 46 cask strength kick lately. As always Thanks for the content David.
Just picked up Redwood Empire Lost Monarch for $29 bucks. My first bottle. I agree - she's really really nice just in general but throw in the price and she hits above her weight class. Love it. My other big fav is Russells Reserve SIngle Barrel. If you see RR Single don't buy it, call me and tell me where to find it.
The Lost Monarch is a mix of rye and bourbon which you mentioned. Over all though the combined mash bill puts it well into rye whiskey territory (60 or 65% rye i believe) even if you can't technically call it a rye.
Great video. Just watched the other video about what not to buy. I liked that on this video you mentioned both eagle rare 10 and Russell’s reserve 10. Those are my two favorite mid priced bourbons. They aren’t cheap but they are bank busters either.
Eagle Rare is $32 here in Oregon. Incredible value, but it’s allocated and you gotta get lucky to snag a bottle. Agree with your list...one other I’d recommend is Elijah Craig SB 94. $30-ish here and delicious.
Here in the Northeast, Eagle Rare is also allocated. I happened across some in N.H. one day and grabbed a bottle for my son. Now,I wished I had bought several!
I’ve never had a bottle of bourbon but I see your recommendations are in the higher price range than the $16/750ml bottle of Evan William bottled in bond. Should I stay clear of inexpensive bottles of bourbons for my 1st bottle?
Great video! Can't argue with your picks. I get caught up on the more expensive bourbons and here I am watching this drinking Buffalo Trace and enjoying the hell out of it. Cheers! 🥃
I finally got me a Buffalo Trace after looking for 6 months. Have had about 3 pours out of it but scared to drink much more, cause so good, until I find another bottle
Wild Turkey 101 is one of my favorite bourbons. It's affordable and delicious. I have bottles that range up to $100 per bottle and I still keep a bottle of 101 at all times because it's such a reliable good drink.
The other good thing about all the WT and BT products, they are shipped internationally. So every Turkey and the Eagle Rare are easily available here in Australia and at the same proof. Unfortunately some products are proofed down to save on taxes (BT and JD just to name a couple)
Aggred on the point of wild turkey products is value ..well here in Australia 101 goes for 60-70 rare breed goes for 90-100 .. hence why hard for me to buy more Kentucky spirit at 130 at the moment I'm enjoying their 13yr Distiller's Reserve..but yep I normally get the rare breed over eagle rare as here ER goes for 90 so yep hard to go past wild turkey ,just picked up the master's keep one for 290 ..I'd rather get more 17yr bib for 250 ..probably gone up to 350 now...yep believe in the price increases people I've been noticing here .grab what you enjoy while you can if you can find it at the retail rate...it's just sad our retail is so expensive...no wonder why people just drink beer & rum here..lol cheers for your video allways good to hear the prices so I can work out it's it worth it here
Just started watching your channel. Also, just went on a mission to grow my Bourbon shelf and determine which is my favorite reasonably priced, easy to acquire Bourbon to sip on. Did a little Bourbon Madness bracket and 1792 small batch came in second; I didn’t realize they had a single barrel. I didn’t love the WTRB, it reminded me more of an Irish whiskey than a Bourbon. I heard you’re from VA and just got turned on to Bowman in Fredericksburg. Actually won the lottery for their latest A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength and had to signed by the master distiller who laid it down. It was his very last batch before retiring. I was wondering if you tried the John J Bowman Single Barrel. It is the best Bourbon I have ever tasted. Usually the ABC has it in close proximity but they are limited quantity. The distillery usually has it as well but limits to one per customer. Thanks for the great content!
Eagle Rare is where it's at! When I find them in Texas, I buy as many as I can. It's hard to beat a solid 10yr at $50. Very happy you included ER in this video. Thank you!
OG114. I can’t get it. Been looking. Want to try it. Sucks I can’t get it. WT101. Maybe you’ll all laugh but I like WT101 better than Rare Breed. Maybe I had a bad bottle of RB but I’ve never not liked WT101. Price efficiency is so much better with the 101. Eagle Rare used to be $40 around here. Now? It’s rare to find it. Love it. 1792. I bought it first because of you sir. And I love it. It is def worth the money. Great bourbon. I got some once for like $36!
I’m glad that I reserved judgement on your critique of Weller 107. I can tell you mean well by people based on the way you spoke of Wild Turkey. Keep on brother!
Glad you finally mentioned RR 10 yr, good stuff and value. Love the whole Redwood Empire line, regular and cask strength. I like my WT Rare Breed better than the KY Spirit, maybe because of the higher proof, but could be because it's a single barrel. And ER is totally crushable.
instead of eagle rare i would have put Woodford Double oaked as it is really easy drinking, knob creek also one of my favorites! Would like your recommendation on something though.. i want a really good bottle anywhere $80-$300 like a one time splurge.. what should i get? Sam Houston? EH Taylor? Something else? I dont mind hunting as long as i can get it eventually.. like antquie collection or pappy would be that bottle but i am never going to see those, and if i do it will be $1000 and up
I just got into bourbon and was talking to a family member who’s really into it, and he recommended Wild Turkey and raved about it all night. I haven’t had it since college, and I can’t wait to go out and try it now…should I go for the 101 first or just jump straight to the Rare Breed?? Suggestions anyone??
Great choices David! I'm not a fan of Wild Turkey 101 but I have all of these excluding the 1792 Single Barrel. I have the BIB and that's good. I must say that the Redwood Empire is delicious. I just picked it up about a week ago and it's getting low. That is so tasty. It has a little kick but not too much. Thx
I’m also a David from Virginia with a love for a good bourbon/whiskey. No longer in the state, though. I’d also recommend trying any of the Belle Meade line of whiskey. Great stuff but hard to come by all their offerings here in Alaska.
I was talking to a friend the other day and he brought up a good point. While WT101 and OGD114 might be great for the money who really would seek those out if they are regularly enjoying Rare Breed or JD SBBP or ECBP or even ER?

Great list! I'll be looking for these next time I'm hunting for a great bourbon that's not a price gouger!
I got so hyped when you mentioned Lost Monarch. I randomly tried it last year and it quickly became one of my new favs.
Glad the big distillery's are keeping the cost down...Just picked up 2 of WT101 for 18 a bottle in Arizona....Cheers brother
great vid, thanks. Stay safe, stay armed, stay free.
4 roses small batch is really good…
Awesome video. Thank you! Spot on reviews.
Thank you!
Old Tub is a great cheapy that I love.
Just picked up a Tin Cup 10 year. It's pretty damn good for $50. Have you had it?
wild turkey and old grand dad great stuff I drink often
Hint of clove,
Hint of spice,
Hint of cinnamon,
Really nice!
- That whiskey makes you sound like Dr. Seuss .. can't wait to try this list!
In my area California I can get 3 bottles of Eagle Rare 10 for the price of one Weller Antique! Great video!
These are some solid picks. I actually agree with you. Well done.
Awesome list David!!!
I've tried everything but the Eagle Rare cuz of being hard to get but I can't wait to try it!
Cheers David!!!
I keep 2 of these 6. WT 101 and Rare Breed are both fantastic. Rare Breed Rye is also great.
instead of eagle rare i would have put Woodford Double oaked as it is really easy drinking, knob creek also one of my favorites! Would like your recommendation on something though.. i want a really good bottle anywhere $80-$300 like a one time splurge.. what should i get? Sam Houston? EH Taylor? Something else? I dont mind hunting as long as i can get it eventually.. like antquie collection or pappy would be that bottle but i am never going to see those, and if i do it will be $1000 and up
Fantastic list, definitely going to bookmark this video!
Thx
Not a fan of WT 101 either. All I taste is oak. Gave it to my son.
@@chimknee , all I taste is the burn. Maybe I'll try it again since each taste can be different from the same bottle and ur palate.
Both those are 1/2 the price point of the latter. The latter are great but not something you'd like to kill in a week or two.
