Imagine an electric fire engine bursting into flames while attending a fire.
And create more emissions 😂
Personally I think an electric fire truck is the smartest idea since the weel.
It do have a solution on board.
I was just going to make the comment.
..and doesn't/can't carry enough liquid to put itself out! Sometimes the jokes just write themselves 🤣
the biggest irony, Fire Truck on Fire
Having been a professional firefighter in NSW for 41 years and completely conversant with almost every circumstance where a fire engine (pumper) is or may need to be employed at an emergency incident I consider the notion of even a partially "electric" appliance farcical in the extreme. I see this exercise as virtue signalling at the expense of practical operational needs. So happy I'm retired and and no longer have to "toe a departmental line" in this era on of mindless stupidity.
Thankyou Sir for "Clearing the Air".
Is it getting pushed from inside the departments or higher up in the government?
The only problem is that electric fire engine may have to put your fire out one day!!!!
@@grahamconnolly3241nah. Enough them will fail. They will stop making them. The money will run out.
My cousin has been a firefighter for the last 30 years and has recently retired. He tells me the biggest problem by far is the proliferation of fairer sex in firefighting and DEI. In his opinion they completely destroyed the profession and took all the joy out of it. Now they have HR in the fire department, women on permanent disability because they were hurt the first month on the job, men have to watch every single word they say/avoid being alone with members of the opposite sex, discrimination towards perfect candidates that are the wrong race/gender, etc. His son who is an absolute specimen of a young man tried to get in the department several times and was rejected every time for not meeting certain requirements. He now works for me in my construction business because he can't even get into the department even though several of his family members are/were in it and his dad was the fire chief of his division. EV firetrucks are the last of their concerns.
One day an EV firetruck is going to experience thermal runaway, and barring any casualties, it's going to be hilarious!
With all the water spraying around it will be sooner rather than later.
"Hey Martha, The Electric Fire Truck is ON FIRE".
The firetruck will be a bigger fire than the one they came to put out...
Battery technology will never catch up to fossil fuels because of physics and physics doesn't care about virtue signalling.
Exactly. A hybrid system could Work, But a Battery ONLY, NO WAY.
EV battery engineers are trying very hard to cram as many electrons as they can into the very small volume of a single battery cell praying physics will just look the other way.
They should try compressing the orbital diameter of valence electrons to squeeze in more atoms of Lithium but that would probably need the gravitational power of a black hole 🤣
Maybe 9 kWH (the energy contained in a liter of gasoline) could eventually be stored inside a single EV battery cell in the year.....4024!🤣 And that's a big maybe.
Physics > feelings
Battery technology has already caught up to fossil fuels already by being 3-4 more efficient when it comes to energy consumption.
@@runeaanderaa6840 Simply not true. They are made using huge amounts of fossil fuels. The electricity to charge the batteries almost always comes from fossil fuels. A 20 litre can of petrol carries 5 -10 times the energy of the same size battery. The only way they can be described as more efficient is to just take a very narrow view of the whole picture.
Anyone who doesn't see the EV-bulldust by now, needs to have his head examined 😂😂
we call it a cult for a reason.
Drilled thru and looked in the hole
The saying "You can't fix stupid" is applicable in this situation.

It's not stupidity...its far worse than that. It's a world wide scam being implemented by some incredibly dangerous, extremely intelligent individuals with intentions of controlling the world's population by convincing them that their everyday habits are destroying the planet. @@alangknowles The water department. Oh, wait - water doesn't work. Lol!

How many fire trucks do one need to put out a single one?
A fool's errand
It’s difficult to imagine anything dumber than an electric fire truck!
Electric snow plow?
Tesla cyber truck.

I see it as practical... it can put its self out when it self combusts
That’s easy

I can now confidently call all my ice vehicles zero emissions. The ice engine is only used to power the vehicle when required.
My 1981 Camaro Z28 runs on 12v DC power. The 511hp ice engine is only there to top up the battery. Due to the inefficiencies of the relatively small lead acid battery, it needs all those horses to constantly top off the battery.
I promise 😉😉
@@jakefriesenjake the battery is very efficient just is very small and needs the engine as range extender.
😂
@@orionbetelgeuse1937 exactly. Took the words outa my own mouth 😂😂
@@jakefriesenjake And that 12 volt battery is quite safe, and wont set the car on fire.
As a firefighter I'd have to say the tons of EV rubbish that takes up space and weight in these things could be better put to use carrying things like yaknow, water.
to do what with the water? Anyway by the time the battery is charged and the truck reaches the fire it should be already extinct.
An electric fire truck and water. What could possibly go wrong? It never ends does it. A fire hazard trying to put out a fire...🤨
It should be obvious to anyone that an electric fire truck is a non-starter. What happens if it gets called out before the batteries are recharged? What happens if the battery-driven water pump stops in the middle of a fire because the batteries are flat? Of course you have to have a diesel-driven pump to ensure it keeps running. Do the morons in charge of these matters even put their brains into gear?
PS: Isn't the fire they are sent to put out likely to be producing 100s times more pollution than what comes out of the truck's exhaust?
@williamgeorgefraser You mentioned, "Morons in charge" and "Put their brains in gear" in the same sentence. I somehow think the two can't coexist? That's why we have this moronic EV situation. Constant spewing of gobbledegook, better known as bullshit. 🦬💩. 🤔 And I agree with you fully!😂 👍🏻
Your PS says it all!
Absolutely right, the Truck could run on "Bio-Diesel", [ Diesel made from re-cycled Cooking Oil] and have basically No carbon emissions. I guess nobody thought to look into that one, did they??
@@scottcarr3264I remember the vast quantities of sooty smoke when the local biodiesel factory caught fire. I was so happy that it was as green a fire, as rich in non-fossil fuel, as when a lumberyard burns…
(This did happen in Stuart, Florida back in 2015. No, I wasn’t really happy: any fire involving a structure made of wood is burning largely renewable stuff, but it’s still a pity.)
We've already had genset hybrid vehicles for 60+ years: locomotives. The only reason they're pushing this hard for electric-only cars is to totally control how, when, where, why and if we can travel.
I have always said flat-out and without hesitation - Every 'green' solution is clearly worse for the environment than the problem that it was supposed to solve.
Its like something I have said for a long long time I even had a tee shirt with this printed on it. It goes like this The more educated we get the stubider we get. Spelled the same way for effect.. LOL
As a volunteer Firefighter, the day that I am required to travel in an EV fire fighting appliance is the day I quit.
As EV passenger cars weigh about 2 tonnes, an EV Fire truck will likely weigh 12 tonnes, 50% more than a diesel powered one. Can you imagine the ensuing explosion and fire from such a battery? To say nothing of the volume of hydrogen cyanide and hydrogen fluoride gas released,
Imagine not being able to take a direct route to where the fire is if it requires crossing a bridge not rated for the fire truck's weight.
But the Politicians want them, so they can tick some box.
I thought ev fuel leaks were a sunny day,at least it says that at the charging station.
The military are usually early adopters of new technology, so I look forward to the adoption of the all electric tank. "Would you mind very much not firing at us for six hours, while we recharge our tank."
And what happens if they hit your Battery and "Set it off". Absolute Mayhem.
@@scottcarr3264we would ask them not to shoot at the battery
The military is a huge in destroying the environment so there is that. The military does like a few EVs for hiding IR. They have a few heavy EV's including tanks in the works. This is insane virtue signaling; EV emergency fire trucks. And although there are very limited reasons for EVs in military, for the military to claim being green is insane. Just search for Green Military.
Six hours? That's a bit optimistic, isn't it?
@@bluedistortions Six hours? That is enough to play with the turret for 5 min.
So. In reality, rather than "all electric" they're hybrids! Why can't they just say that?
That would mean telling the truth...something in scarce supply.
Net Zero / Green and truth? Not possible!
Not only that i looked up the firetruck mentioned and the electric one seems to be exactly the same as the diesel version withe the battery and electric motor tacked on and the batteries are really small 250kwh was the bigger battery
They can't let the SECRET OUT!
These fools are totally living in Lalaland
I think the term 'mongrel' is more honest than 'hybrid'.
If you are in Australia, isn't the term "shitmix"?
The utter absurdity of it is mind boggling.
I can see it now! "We learned that our electric fire truck was a piece of crap that we should have ever bought. After falling apart in less than 2 years we advise any other fire departments to stay away from this monstrosity and buy a real F-ing fire truck!!!,"
Yes and also taxpayers we are raising your taxes to buy real firetrucks this time. Thanks for funding that stupid experiment. Have a good day commoners!
Jersey City NJ purchased 6 electric garbage trucks, and had to have 6 charging stations installed.Their capacity was severely limited because of the massive battery pack.Within a year, all six trucks were worn out junk.
How much did the Charging Stations COST, installation and Running cost, I bet Diesel Trucks were Cheaper in both categories.
Re arrange the sentence to make sense... Jersey City NJ purchase 6 garbage electric trucks. Now that makes complete sense!
@@David-tt2mt Cheers!
If these decision makers were the smartest people on earth, gravity would not have been discovered yet.
A fire truck that actually brings fire! Cool!!
lol, thats why its called a fire truck right.. bwahhaaahahaa
It's called self sustainability 😝👍
It's called a controlled BURN!
Fire trucks spend most of their time stood in the station creating zero emissions. It's not like they're cruising the streets all the time. The Coventry Climax engine made famous by Lotus started life as a fire tender pump motor.
Reminds me of the electric desert rally cars that have a built-in gas generator to recharge their batteries... Even the pole-to-pole EV challenge couldn't do it alone: "To recharge their Ariya, the pair would either use a prototype solar hybrid charging solution or a 5kW wind turbine, depending on the weather. If that failed, they occasionally had to rely on their gasoline generator, a necessary piece of equipment when traveling through the Arctic. " Other reports stated they only used the "portable wind and solar charging trailer that will generate and store renewable energy to power our Expedition Nissan Ariya in the harsh Polar Regions." Guess you can't reliably use EVs everywhere...
Is that challenge power pole to power pole?
Behind every successful net zero system is an ICE engine.
Something that looks like something else but doesn't actually carry out that thing's function is called a toy.
A 1991 fire engine needing replacement. Only 34 years old. The Dallas Texas fire department replaced several trucks/engines that were closer to 50 years old. Sounds like pure virtual signaling. Someone found out about some 'grant' money, another way to say taxpayer's money to be wasted, and decided to be the 1st in the state with a shiny new toy. I doubt the battery will last 30 years. However, I'm certain the manufacturer has a replacement battery for $60,000 plus labor, $30,000. The battery life will be garbage because it will sit in a state of fully charged sometimes for days if there are no calls. Oh, wait. It can only be charged to 80%. Well, it still will degrade from not being fully discharged and recharged. But remember we're saving the planet from a non existing problem.
Whenever it's for posing, it's EV. When s hits the fan, it's diesel!
When the going gets tough the diesel gets going 😀
Worried about tail pipe emissions as a car or house is spewing noxious fumes into the air. Makes perfect sense.
On March 9, 1970 my town a had a 9-alarm warehouse fire that burned for 18-hrs and one fire engine (pumper) was kept there for one week. After after 5-hours, the gasoline fire engines needed to be refuel and that was a logistical nightmare. One local company had a diesel engine in its pumper that didn't need fuel until 12-hours later. From that point on, every fire company in the county bought diesel engine fire trucks when their vehicles got replaced.
Why would any fire department buy a truck that needs to switch to a diesel engine with a small fuel tank that would need to be refueled faster?
The Greenies are worried about a few tailpipe emmissions while going to put out a fire that is billowing black smoke. Oh, the irony.... LOL
I love how a whistleblower exposed that Scotland is using diesel generators to power their wind turbines during winter to prevent them from freezing 🤣
Your typical UK Fire Engine carries 400 gallons of water. Which isn't enough to put itself out if it's battery powered and catches fire!
I wonder how much less a battery powered one carries due to the weight of the battery?
I love how EV marketing makes glaring shorting comings of the vehicle sound like positive features.
My Dad was a fireman all his life, and must be laughing in his grave! Fire engines rarely do more than 25,000kms during their service life of 25 years. These machines are generally sold on to smaller towns’ when replacement time comes and do even less mileage thereafter. Imagine the miniscule emissions over its life as opposed the emissions and environmental damage to build 1 new electric fire machine! This madness knows no limits! 😡🤬
Literally 'Fire Trucks'.
As an American who has lived in urban areas and now lives in the suburbs, I can tell you that very little of the diesel engine is required to move a firetruck to the scene of the fire. Perhaps 5 or 10 minutes running time. The firetruck will then be on scene using the diesel engine to run the water pumps and emergency lighting for more than an hour if not several hours before a few minutes run back to the firehouse. With this in mind, exactly how much could an electric motor possibly reduce diesel emissions? Remember, fire trucks also use plenty of public safety lights and sirens on their way to the fire. Then there is the issue of brush or forest fires where fire apparatus will be required to drive a distance to the fire, travel on unimproved roads to get to where they are needed. There are also large water tanker trucks that accompany them and they can expect to be on scene for days on end where fuel trucks will keep them supplied with diesel. Do these fire apparatus really benefit from the additional weight of an electric motor and battery or would they be better served by carrying more equipment, water or diesel fuel? Do fire trucks need the additional complexity and introduction of possible points of failure considering they operate in all weather conditions from desert heat to arctic cold?
It would serve to convince me electric vehicles weren't a joke if the presidential motorcade was all electric.
That'll be the day you'll see them at a supercharger, if they could find one that works.
Exactly my view to.
They probably wouldn't be able to transport the vehicles by air for safety reasons!
You have to be a politician to think this makes sense.....
Lol, yep 100%
On the plus side, this fire truck will be instantly on the scene when it bursts into flames.
an EV fire truck? its like assigning a fox to guard the chicken coop!
Electric firetruck is a genius idea: it can extinguish its battery fire pronto.
There's no way it could carry enough water to extinguish its own battery fire.
No, it takes 10 fire trucks to estinguish an electric one, and even that may not be enough .
If the fire truck is "all electric", they should force them to remove the diesel engine.
It's going to be interesting when the battery of a fire truck has a thermal runaway,
and starts burning all the buildings around it. Then it truly will be a "FIRE truck".
Luckily the Sandoval County Fire Department is merely minutes away.
Yes, I didn't think they'd be able to use an electric pump. Twenty years ago, I was in the Rural Fire Service (volunteer bushfire brigade). Our two trucks each had a straight-six diesel for pumping. Typically, we'd run it up to 2,500 RPM for delivering water; but I saw an occasion in Woy Woy where a crew was trying desperately to save (cool with mist) a house whose timber fence was ablaze (during a summer of fires on the Central Coast)-they maxed the power setting and had their pump screaming at 3,000 RPM. At the very moment those firefighters saved all the houses in that street; just a mile away, the fire consumed the fire station and all the firefighters' cars.
Yeah you way off there electric pumps are a ton better than diesel ones hence why they are the preferred option for most water transfer, the issue isn't the pump it's the batteries it just isn't possible currently to carry around the energy needed vs diesel. So even through an electric pump needs less than a quarter of the energy a diesel one does to do the same work the diesel have 20x more energy and it's easy to carry more and get more
What starts with F and ends with uck ? *THE* Original dad joke.
I was talking to a delivery person the other day and he was telling me he got a Tesla and loves not having to pay for fuel anymore. I asked him how much his home charger cost and what he pays pKWH for electricity, he said he thinks the charger was around $1200 installed and he doesn’t know how much he pays pKWH of electricity…I would say he’s a typical BEV owner.
How often is a fire truck out on the road? Most of the time it’s sitting on standby. What difference does it make, it’ll never recover the emissions generated in its manufacture 🤦♂️
Is that like some sort of complete green environmental circle? Pulling out your own fire hose to put yourself out?
Ouroboros
Exactly.!
The emperor has no clothes!
My seven-seater diesel wagon has a battery powered starter motor. By Pierce Manufacturing definition I own a zero emissions vehicle! WOW!
This whole net zero, zero brains zero think, reminds me of the children's story, "The Emperor has no clothes." Modern day title " The City Council has no common sense. "
ALL I had to hear was "New Mexico " and that explains it all in a nut shell. If your ever in the states visit New Mexico and you'll know what I mean.
lol... so its a 'hybrid' , why didnt they just say so...
You'd have to see the irony of a fire truck being more of a hazard than the fire it's there to put out.
I was a fire fighter in New Mexico. I can't believe they are pulling this crap. You can buy 4 diesel pumpers for price of one glorified parade truck
Firetrucks have a plethora of accessories - radios, sat phone, burnover protection system, pumps, fridge, regular lights, emergency lights, telescopic light tower, remote water cannon, sirens... The idea of making these appliances all battery EV is utterly stupid, as the batteries would be lucky to last 30 minutes in full use at a fire.
This is ridiculous, in the future you’ll simply be required to bring your out of control fires to the fire department since they will no longer be making house calls.
Bet who ever signed off to buy this got a kick back that was huge
Thanks Simon, great reporting.
A normal person looking at buying an all electric fire engine would say "So it's all electric" if the answer comes back "Well it also has a diesel engine" a normal person would walk away saying it's not all electric, but politicians aren't normal.
If you need a diesel motor to ‘back up’ the EV battery why bother with an EV battery in the first place.
Stick with what you have got, it works efficiently and costs half as much.
When a battery farm catches fire an all-electric fire truck response would be just the ticket.
I am reminded of the cartoon where the big fish pops out of the water and says " Now I've seen everything !" , pulls out a pistol , and shoots itself in the side of the head.
Watching a recent Peter Zeihan clip and he reckons there isn't enough copper, lithium, cobalt etc to create enough greentech to replace what fossil fuels currently achieve. Also he claims that there aren't enough top level microchips to go around to execute all this tech.
Don't forget that AI, that all the big wigs want cost Trillions to build and Uses Gigawatts of Electricity to run them. The FOOLS just seem to get crazier.
Some airports installed solar-powered weather warning systems, but they didn't work in bad weather.
Human Evolution is now stuck on "Stupid."
Imagine watching the family home burn down once the fire engine catches and the other fire fighting vehicles have to redirect their attention to putting out one of their own fire trucks.
Jay Leno”s Garage has a video of an F-One electric fire truck, it has an ICE as a “range extender”. The truck is built in the USA but is shipped to China to be electrified. Make it make sense.
All the batteries are in China.
I'm waiting for the first electric petrol tanker...😊
Here in Canada, the Vancouver fire Dept. purchased an EV pumper in Dec. 2023. By Jan. 2024 it broke down and hasn't moved since. Next province over in Alberta Edmonton boult 60 EV buses. Last count 16 were working...poorly. Company that made them has gone under and the city has no one to sue.
What a fantastic built in feature.Fire truck battery catchers fire, never mind pleanty of water and a diesel water pump. Genius design dont you know. 😮
Fossil fuels are not fossils, just another thing we have been lied to about.
The idea would be great if they could find some zero emission fires to put out, otherwise it’s all pretty pointless
Around my area, during the dog days of summer, firetrucks can frequently make 2-3 runs per day (grass fires, etc.). Not every day, mind, but it does happen. And that's during daylight hours, which leaves maybe 4 hours for recharging between runs.
Or perhaps there're only minutes to recharge if a grassfire is naughty and doesn't wait its proper turn to flare up.
Those damn, irresponsible grassfires, not waiting their proper turn to flare up; what the hell is WRONG with them!!!
The cost versus benefit on this is madness.
Imagine how fast the battery in the fire truck would deplete trying to put out an EV fire that takes hours and tons and tons of water pumping? 😂😂
I’m betting there’s a big unspoken issue with these new trucks… How many less gallons of water do they carry due to extra weight over a ice fire truck.
A fire truck use to hold so many gallons of water, but with batteries this can not be any longer?
If you hold the Same amount of water AND you have a Great Big Battery underneath it, you will either have to make the Truck Lighter to not go Overweight on the Roads, OR Have double the amount of Tyres to distribute that Weight better.
This is crass incompetence, ignorance and stupidity!!!!
Unbelievable!
Anyone with an inkling of engineering knowledge knows that an electric fire truck is a ridiculous idea.
Thank you for your reports.
Find out what these politicians are drinking and have them change in hopes we get reasonable behaviors and policies.
The diesel engine is not a backup. Pumping water to a high head pressure is extremely power hungry and no matter how big the battery was it would not do the job even for a few seconds. The pressure and volume required to reach say the 30th floor of a tower block is mind blowing.
Simple enough to calculate pressure p= rho x g x h
Fire engines need constant power to power up equipment. Time they arrive at the scene they've used up half the juice .
In Canada we have an "electric" logging truck with a diesel generator onboard, that used to be called a hybrid.
People create government destroys.

I have been driving the same gas powered toyota corolla for 25 years now. It haz 325K miles on it. I plan on driving it another 5 or 10 years. No electric car would last that long unless you were on the free battery replacement program! And you were lucky enuff not 2 have a fire!

Hey an idea. why dont we take page out of electic-jesus playbook. "when are you going to go fully electric?" "Uhm.. yea, next year! We are so close, next year for sure" aaaand repeat that next time.
What a shambles 👍
ICE fire trucks can last fifty years or more, but not the battery. Average mileage of firetruck is short, it spends most of the time waiting. It should deliver maximum weight of water, not additional heavy fuel stock. Firetruck is the last place to use batteries.
I have a cousin that was doing training shifts with Denver (Colorado,USA) Fire Dept at Station #1. One day he came back and said they were out in service for 23 of the 24 hour shift. Boy, I'm sure an EV truck would handle that well... not.
The idiocy and hypocrisy is so flaming (pun intended) obvious. Virtue signalling seems to prevail on every level. Great video Simon
