PEACEMAKER Ep 4: Every Easter Egg + ENDING EXPLAINED | Batman Multiverse BREAKDOWN
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 січ 2022
- Peacemaker Episode 4 has a ton of Easter Eggs that connect to Batman, the Justice League and the wider DC Extended Multiverse. But some of the Easter Eggs-especially the ones about the Joker-don't quite add up. Making me wonder if the Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey and Peacemaker actually take place in a different universe than the DCEU.
We also break down that ending, what the butterflies want, and how this all connects to Gorilla Grodd(!?) escaping from the zoo.

Would you rather fight a duck-sized John Cena or 10 John Cenas the size of ducks?
Don't you mean a John Cena sized duck or 10 John Cenas the size of ducks
Definitely a John Cena sized duck
Definitely John Cena sized duck
Neither. I'd rather cuddle with Doug.
Whichever one doesn't have a duck penis...
I have always thought John Cena was a one tone actor but only 4 episodes in this show has completely changed my mind. Everyone including John is amazing in their roles, the dialogue is hilarious and deep at the same time, which isn't easy
Suicide Squad didn’t change your mind?
@@KoltVEVO no even in suicide squad it just felt like John Cena to me. They didn't give him any depth in the movie
I continue to be on the fence. He is still, at the root, playing a John Cena character. His acting has improved but only improved in his same acting manner. However, he can only act what he is given. OR he is only given what he can handle and the production side of the series knows not to push him.
@@OneJumpMan33 Nah. the scene where he kills flag and everything after is top notch acting.
@@doublet147 This is the beauty of the way Gunn is fleshing out the Peacemaker role. John Cena could literally roll this persona out for WWE.
I really like vigilantes character. Really hope he’s apart of the rest of the season, but could see him die in some half sad, half hilarious way. Guess we’ll see
i think it might be a flip of the rick flag vs peacemaker scene, vigilante goes WAYYY over the line and peacemaker sees himself and what he could be in vigilante and kills him unfortunately
The scabees helmet will kill him lmfao 🤣😂😂 it's definitely gonna be a thing later because he did pick up all the helmet
Don't IMDb cast... Lists number of episodes and it's a likely spoiler
@@mattguyton1661 they're all listed for 8
A Long way from the Justice League Unlimited version were he was just a cowboy
Peacemaker saying "candy ass" is a reference to The Rock as well
Like the rock owns that.
Feels like peace maker is going to kill his dad. Vigilante points out that the white dragon suit has flaws where the fabric is showing.( maybe it was hinting at a fight) so maybe peace maker will stab/ shoot his dad in the suits " weakneas" If they do fight.
makes me nervous though that vigilante has the rabbit that obstacles are opportunities which is the shirt rick Flagg wore in suicide, hoping its not foreshadowing peacemaker killing him too
Looking forward to seeing them both suit up and throw down.
Vilgrante is my favorite characters he's so psychopath , but so loving, and kind I feel like he has a tragic backstory as to why he kills evils people.
The revelations of Murn being a butterfly: he was knocked out by the bomb at the end of the third episode, so could one of the presumed dead butterflies of the Senator's family gotten into his noggin at this time? Also, there's been a CG caterpillar and a CG butterfly in shot two times earlier in the show. Caterpillar crawling on a branch outside when Leota Adebayo and her wife was introduced and second time when Peacemaker returned to his home a CG butterfly was sitting on his machine gun garden gnome. They might be nothing, but why use money on them if they were nothing? James Gunn has a history of planting easter eggs that take a while to make sense.
It's actually making a lot of sense
Got a feeling Leota's wife is gonna become a butterfly, also the old man that lives next to Auggie
@@rickysprangle4523 I think the old man is already one.
2:14: In a way, Peacemaker is like Damian Wayne from the Injustice series. He accidentally hit his brother causing him to fall in a rock and die
Thank you for covering this masterpiece of a show
It sucks the other CBM UA-cam channels don’t show love to the Peacemaker show. They only push marvel and never have anything bad to say about marvel, not fair for DCEU fans.
@@clemensprod.5756 lol what they all review every single dceu film and trailer lmao
@@clemensprod.5756 in all fairness DC live actions shows are not good. It’s easy to say it’s unfair but we gotta admit that 90% of DC content is trash
@@romeocalmo I mean most of it’s trash but doom patrol has been solid for a while and gets no love
@@Ale_roddy it’s not getting love bc when people see it’s from DC it’s safe to assume it’s trash. That’s why Snyder was so bad for the DCEU, even if they’re good they get no support
The Batman killing debacle is solved by the image that Batman marks them and that Batman hasn’t been on the news in the Snyder verse for killing
The more they show about vigilante... The more i love that charecter 😂
Same!!!
That whole scene between that neighbor old guy referring to Batman having villains , but like of course like Peacemaker doesn’t have any villains cause of well that line , he has say under
"The Choad Less Travelled" isn't telegraphing what you think it is. The meaning of the poem is the exact opposite of what most people think it is. It's actually about how you end up at the same place no matter which path you take, and that you are always destined to arrive at the same destination. They're telling us that Peacemaker isn't going to be able to change in the end.
I think people might confuse it with The Road Not Taken by Frost. Which ends with the author admitting to a change that happened due to having taken the previously untraveled path. here are the last two lines of that poem.
"I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
I read somewhere that he was writing it mockingly about a friend and fellow writer who was always indecisive and always lementing the past. He was pointing out to his friend that no matter the choice he made he would still be here melancholy about the path he didn't take. So all roads lead to the same conclusion essentially.
I love how you guys are slowly building entire ScreenCrush lore regarding the video store, your existence, etc. So meta lol
I didn't read many Peacemaker comics, but this take is really different from the old comics... I liked when his father was a nazi-ghost and Peacemaker works hard to make it up for all the stuff his father did (not to mention the Vigilante). I'm enjoying this series, John Cena really improved as an actor... and I think the Adrian Chase fighting scene was great
I think this is the story behind that. Like eventually he’ll get to the point where he wants to make up for his fathers shitty deeds
You read comic books? Nerd
@@bigreddog2534 In fact I’ve stopped… a bit tired of the same reboots one after the other… the story arcs with elements just to shock and over the top plots…
With a few exceptions, recent stories aren’t as good as the old ones (80s, 90s and early 2000s). To me it would be more interesting if characters evolved like in Mangas…
@@rafaeltogami I think he was joking lol
Am I the only one surprised by how much ass the Vigilante kicked in the prison? He wiped the floor with those dudes, even the White Dragon was a little afraid
yeah, he's a weirdo and apparently a murderer but he's also a total badass
The end of this episode made me shed a tear for Chris.
Thanks Ryan!!! My other channels haven't put out a video yet. Plus Heavy Spoilers ain't covering it, lol.
bastards
Those douchebags
James Gunn did confirm that this and The Suicide Squad does take place in the DCEU
Vigilante Is Standout 🔥
And Thanks for Covering This Show... This Show Is Really Amazing 🔥... Looking Forward For The Finale 👌
Ok so the Batman doesn't kill rule
1) Batman is viewed as more of a hero outside of Gotham
2) Gordon might be covering up batman's kills which is not unheard of
I’ve been saying this for a while. But DC really just needs to be it’s own thing. Every property doesn’t need to tie together like with Marvel.
It should only tie together if it happens in the comics.
@@doublet147 It should only tie together if it makes whatever story they're telling better. The MCU will eventually (if it hasn't already, Eternals suffered from this IMO, would of been MUCH better standalone) become so convoluted with plotholes nobdy will care anymore.
I think they should do 2 thing, have a shared universe and have other lesser properties that should be completely separated from the shared universe but it should be characters that don't appear in the dceu.
True. Dc has every opportunity to surpass and destroy marvel but WB just doesn’t realise it
You forget John cenas experience fighting in cages and the fact that's 10 people you can't see. You would have no idea where they are till they hit you
So my speculation regarding his brother. Peacemaker has emphasized both in this show and TSS that he will kill kids to keep the peace. I think this is a coping mechanism he uses to justify the involvement in the death of his brother. I wouldn’t be surprised if the only child he has ever killer was his brother.
Peacemaker saying he won’t just kill a kid just because he is told to makes me think during that flashback he was told by his dad or even brother to handle a dispute by killing the other kid. Peacemaker refused which then I’m guessing his brother tried to be the one to kill the other kid instead. Peacemaker then kills his brother trying to stop this. His father is quick to praise and think fondly of peacemakers brother. I’m thinking his brother was the ruthless killer that peacemaker could never be. Peacemaker ultimate does what he thinks is right to keep the peace by attacking his brother to protect the other kid.
HEY, SCREENCRUSH! HERE'S ONE FOR YOU- "Peacemaker... What a joke." Rick Flaggs final words to Peacemaker are a nod to 'The Watchmen'. Alan Moore wanted to use Peacemaker and other Atlas Hero's in 'Watchmen' but DC said "No" and thus the role originally given to Chris Smith was instead given to a character of Alan Moore's own creation, the Comedian.
The White Dragon armor... Damnnnn it looks cool
I genuinely love your content 💛
Does anyone else think the Duck thing was written with full awareness of the fact that Butterflies are parading as People, or that it's just funny??...after writing this, I think it's both.
good review man!!
"A duck in a human costume" could also be a reference to the nature of this butterfly alien creature, as they are technically a living being living inside a human "costume"
The rabbits name is “Ultra Bunny”. James Gunn said he created it for a project that was never picked up.
I know Ben Affleck’s Batman was killing but it seems before he started killing there was a long time where he wasn’t killing and after Superman’s death it appears he’s stopped killing again. So this could still be the same DCEU
It's definetly in same universe. Because Harley Quinn is the same one as in first Suicide Squad.
@@TheJorssk exactly
I like how Ryan fully embraced the random JG spirit with the duck philosophy
Be the size of Judo Master, I find the idea of fighting a duck, the size of John Cena, quiet terrifying.
Keith Giffin wrote a standalone issue of Legion of Superheroes where Matter-Eating-Lad was a space James Bond. It was awesome!
Thanks Ryan!
sorry about the editing mistake at the end.
I'm surprised he didn't go more into the fight scene in the prison, because that really shows how skilled vigilante is, despite being a complete sociopath
That lil dog is just Adorable 🥰
Ryan Airey is really emphasising his blinks in this one
You have the best recaps on the internet. Tell Doug I love him.
I'm leaving a comment because I'm already quite impressed with the deep dive at the start of the video about two extras in two different James Gunn properties who both used to work with him? Like that's why *he* is running the counter at this video store
I must say, I never been so confused and smile ear to ear so much.
After watching this show, I feel like a Space Ghost live action tv show could be sweet.
Thank you for posting the picture of Judy Hill! I recognize him from the Righteous Gemstones but had no idea he had such a huge role
"...instead, it's the fucking Apple-Dumpling Gang~~!!" LOL! He so MAD!
That rabbit is Ultra Bunny. It might very well be a reference to Gunn's Marvel firing, but it's also a character that Gunn created himself which was used on the shirt when Warner expressed concerns about Wiley Coyote being on a shirt splattered with blood.
Love that you worked at Troma.
Lloyd Kaufman was also in The Suicide Squad for a half a second when they walked in that dive bar to meet Thinker.
it says wayne foundation vs wayne enterprise. it’s probably a different logo because it’s a subdivision of the same company.
your jokes throughout the videos were actually really damn funny
At 3:26
That review was left on my birthday! 😆
"If you're a repeat customer, I'm sorry" - that got me...
The closing song made my life lol. I squealed in Gen X
Kaufman also had a cameo in THE SUICIDE SQUAD :)
Gorilla on newspaper of guard before window break... Bag is a Cheeto bag from earlier... Guys sweat in childhood flashback on shirt is shaped like butterfly... Missed those 3
Two words, "Terror Birds." They were a real thing. They flourished all the way up to right around the time Humans were wiping out Neanderthals and Denisovans. The same proportions as your duck, most species had a parrot shaped beak that could cause instant death. A goose is similar to a duck but about 30-40% larger, not John Cena sized, and humans are terrified of them.
I just imagined myself with 10 duck sized John Cena's just field goaling them just straight punting them across the room in my head hearing his intro music and everything.
7:40 The Wayne Enterprises logo was in the DCEU. It was in Man of Steel twards the end when superman was in space.
The Faster Pussycat "House of Pain" moment hit me hard. My stepmother, who is actually a cool person, questioned me having that cassette, and specifically thought that that song would be some sort of S & M thing. That pissed me off, so I threw it in the tape deck and made my dad's birthday party listen to the song. Tears running down my face while I kept eye contact with both of them. If she chose "Bathroom Wall", she would have been correct about it being inappropriate.
When peacemaker says riddle me this, Candy-arse is one off the Rocks chatch phase in wwe
'Candy Ass' is a line borrowed from Rocks wwe days
One of the cops is reading a newspaper that mentions the missing gorilla and at the bottom the phrase “ Inter gang have taken over kahndaq” home of black Adam and also harcourt is rumored to be in the movie as well
I called Chekov's Gorilla. I hope to see the butterflies indoctrinate it at some point.
Yessir! First one to mention the missing guerrilla! I seent it!
Thanks for including me...sweet cheeks! (it's a compliment). My extensive 80's hair band knowledge finally pays off!
I am floored by the character development through 4 episodes, dealing with child hood trauma and escaping the gravitational pull of one's parent's/upbringing to become your own person. One of my favorite parts of this show is that I am not uber focused on what's next, who is the hidden villain, etc like we got sucked into with some of the mcu shows. I think it's due to how exceptional the show is on it's own, it's so satisfying and genuinely funny...that we don't need to hyper focus on what's next...Just enjoying each episode for what it is.
The butterflies remind me of the Reach from young justice. This analog makes me think there are good and bad butterflies
This series really has that Troma feel. A bit more mainstream but it's definitely got that same sense of madness.
Lol, watching your theories after the series finale is over. I appreciate the effort though!
I want Batman to make a cameo with his neighbor.
I think that the opening credits are a clue about what's going to happen in the show. Notice the strange, alien-like way that most of the cast moves in the dance sequence. Pair that with the fact that all of their faces are basically emotionless, and it's reasonable to assume that they all end up as BUTTERFLIES.
Charlie the Gorilla is in DC comics (pre-crisis)
8:24 the character has UB on its shirt for Ultra Bunny and has nothing to do with the WB
Remember Ryan, if you ever feel gloom or sad just remember you have the awesome cutest dog, and your positive outlook on motion picture is refreshing.... yeah, i'll definately fight John Cena sized duck
10 duck-sized cenas. theyre stronger and more durable than ducks, but once you take one out you can use it as a heavy club
Batfleck: Boy I love killin!
Surprised you didn't mention Cena dropping the "candy ass" a little nod to The Rocks wrastlin days
Thanx for the video.for some reason your the only chanell willing to break down peacemaker and take it serious. Peacemaker is the 💩 so idk why
Cena does have fighting skills but a duck would flap its wings creating shock and awe. Frankly I could see people running from both.
Truly a question for the ages...
There’s a bottle that says Glan Tai Bottling Co.
Glan Tai is a street in StL. My guess is Gunn grew up there.
I like when you tell us fun facts that you already went over. I’m old as shit and I can’t remember what you said!
my favorite fun clip was with the Creed song, "Arms Wide Open"...... Yeah, I'm a 90's kid
Your the best
What was that moment when peacemaker looks at the woods and nods just before fighting judo master in the parking lot.
This show is Masterful!
A butterfly controlled gorilla would be awesome
Lloyd Kaufman also had a cameo in Suicide Squad, you knew that 🤓🛢️🧹
Theory, Peacemakers dad's neighbor is batmite, dudes clearly a fan
Maybe but look up how bat mite looks he is tiny
@@aadhavansengathir7687 yeah but the dude has crazy powers, it doesnt seem unreasonable he could inhabbit a human body/ change his physical appearance
I love vigilante, awesome character
Peacemaker is one of the best shows ever. TSS was one of the best movies ever… I think James Gunn needs to make more DC content. 😂😂😂
He did confirm he is apart of another DC tv show
Agree!!!
I'm pretty sure the shirt on the rabbit says UB as in Uber Bunny. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it but I thought there was an interview where James Gunn mentioned it :/
The choad must grow
makes me nervous though that vigilante has the rabbit that obstacles are opportunities which is the shirt rick Flagg wore in suicide, hoping its not foreshadowing peacemaker killing him too
Giant duck. Do the whole Luke vs the Rancor thing!
Ohh man James Gunn can make us cry with jis music choices
just wanna say i love the "your mom" jokes
It was Tim Conway opposite Don Knotts in the Apple Dumplin Gang, not Bill Bixby
White Dragon saying the wrong son died is a reference to Robert Patrick and Joaquin Phoenix biotopic Johnny Cash film called Walk the Line where Patrick plays Johnny Cash father who says "the devil did this he took the wrong son!!!!" after Cash older brother Jack has a deadly serious injury and dies from it
It's funny when you noobs think a ubiquitous trope is a reference to some specific instance predated by dozens of examples.
What exactly is the relationship between Paul (Heavyspoilers) , Ryan (ScreenCrush), and Erik (NewRockstars). I need to see a sit down between all of you on a major release. It would have been great for No Way Home
John Cena and the old man scenes are gold
