Extreme poverty in Gambia and extreme loneliness in the UK
Great combination
and gros people on both sides

@Vali C The British are the gross ones, they travelled to the Gambia, not the other way round
How does an American man get in on this. In looking for a older woman
Those who have never experienced poverty cannot understand that being poor and hungry causes people to be in love with having food and shelter. Period.
So very true!
That hits home
So true! I lived in a third world country in the tourist business. I saw the same type of romances as part of day to day life. For some, love is having food and shelter!
No cap. In 3rd world countries, you can get women as long as you are loaded. Ain't the same in many other rich nations
Very well said!
The interviewer is a very intelligent man, because he uses a very sensitive way to describe the situations and circumstances. I think this is really not easy and needs a lot of empathy and other psychological skills.
I would love a skill such as this .. and I will.
I have an African friend who lives here in America. All day and night, his family, relatives and friends are calling him begging for money. No matter what he tells them they are desperate and continue calling. The real tragedy is the poverty and corruption of most African countries. The women have choices. Africans have few opportunities.

These are the same people who cry a river when they are scammed online or otherwise. If you treat people like commodities and tools, don't be surprised when they treat you the same. Imagine the situation in reverse, old Gambian men going to England and exploiting young English women. This documentary would have an entirely different slant.
Aptly on 💯
So much truth in this
It literally wouldn't even make the news for years and years if foreign men abused our children.

It happens in Kenya too. Brits, Germans and Italians come here for holiday, and pursue younger men/women, and even (unfortunately) underage girls. It's a sad sight to behold, but if it involves consenting adults it's their business. When it involves minors, that's just unacceptable.
Yap I saw this in Kenya mombasa, the minors, it was disturbing for me, this is happening in the whole of Africa but I am just thankful Uganda has less tourism and a little bit of a strong culture settings that make some people shy of doing this,

Older man from UK goes to Thailand to find a 20 year old girl, old women goes to Gambia!
Seyi Rhodes has a really good way of presenting this Documentary, very moving, you fell you can rely on every one of his words.
One can really feel the warmth from his heart, and concern for all involved. I hope I find more from him. I would especially like to see a Part 2 of Seyi going back to The Gambia, 3 years after recording this one.
I don't mind Seyi going back to Gambia for another documentary. I do mind, however, British women going back for sloppy seconds.
This reporter has such a gift. He comes across as someone with a genuine curiosity and desire to understand a person's point of view. No wonder the interviewees open up to him with such ease.

Same thing happening in Philippines , white old man with really young girls
I wish you could have spoken to the local women about the British women coming in and pursuing the Gambian men.
If those women benefit from that relationship, my guess is they don't have a problem with it.
They probably don’t really care. They prob get the women, too. 😂.
That’s not part of the agenda. You can tell he probably dates white women back in the UK. I find it funny how he paints the black men in Gambia as criminals but the UK women as victims.
Me too 😂😊😂😊!!!!
Many know their husband is gaming those old bitties for money. They don't complain because the family reaps the benefits.
Nice documentary, would like to see more from Seyi.
Seyi, great reporting......respect.
Excellent report. Poverty steals a person's future. Prayers for all. Kindness for each other.
And, Education is the way out. Obviously, these "men" prefer the easy way out !!
Yes!
Poverty steals a person's future. Damn that one got me right in the gut! So incredibly true.
Some of these young men are just looking for a short cut to a good life without having to toil for it
Cierto. La pobreza no te permite elegir.
It's just disgusting , when you take advantage of someone's poverty
It's sad but it always happens. It's like older men going to Vietnam & the Philippines to find a bride. The mail bride thing will never go out of business.
Aren't the men also taking advantage of them?
@@zipinhaNot really. The men are prostitutes with no guarantee of getting paid. The women doing this are hypocrites who don't want to accept that this is purely transactional.
Both sides are taking advantage of each other
@@zipinha Yeah. Like the Filipino women in that situation?
Excellent on every level. Thanks for this respectful point of view on such a tangled subject!
Great documentary. Thanks!
This is sad. Each side is looking for something different from the other. One is desperately seeking love, the other is desperate to escape poverty. The same thing happens in places like the Philippines but with old men going after poor young girls.
This is great exchange imho with all due respect. The business of the WORLD is recognizing a need, and filling it.
This is true but those Filipino ladies takes care of their man until the man mistreats them, then some ladies change, but not all of them. They still feel thankful and still serve their men. Feed them and takes care of them.
@@janellrr7395 Yes, some of them are appreciative and okay with the relationship, and depending on how big or small the age gap is, it works sometimes. However, many of them are doing it out of desperation to get out of poverty, often sacrificing their true happiness because it's not only about them, they have expectations from their families to get them out of poverty as well.
There's a reason these tourists go to the poorest Asian and African countries for these sorts of relationships. It's because they know these desperate people will do anything for the promise of a better life. At least the "cougars" seem to go after 28-40 year old men. From what I've seen, the male tourists often go after 18-20 year old girls whose brains haven't fully developed, sometimes even younger than that.
Not entirely. While the flockers may, indeed, be on a desperate quest for love by those incapable of loving - their protohuman counter-party is looking for: 1. Shag objects; 2. White shag objects; 3. An opportunity to dupe their white shag objects; 4. Cool factor. That's a lot more things they're after than just an opportunity to dupe the desperate hags.
Yeah okay, one is looking for love.

A very soft, human approach to the topic. The presenter is outstanding.

Great documentary
A couple of observations: 1. Michelle's man seems like he's kinda high whenever he's being interviewed. 2. The fact that Michelle nor her man can get his age straight is a red flag. 3. Michelle was stammering a lot when trying to explain that for rent sign. 4. When the lady at the end was crying about her pain that she's in when she gets back to the UK, it was the presenter who rushed to console her, not the man who claims to love her. That was interesting for me.
I agree with your observations!
I felt most sorry for the lady at the end because she's aunty to me and I was thinking in the back of her mind she knows that this is probably not genuine love but it feels to good to get out now that she's had a taste of what she's been missing.
@@kevinfowler8712 I definitely hear you. She wants love so bad, even if it's maybe transactional. I hope she finds real love.
@@rebeccarambo2893 I totally agree. I definitely think it's gonna be her best bet to try to move there if she can swing it. And maybe a little (true) love too!
Because he is not her man, just fooling around
As a Gambian watching this, it’s truly disappointing. I knew this was going on but I didn’t realise just how bad it’s gotten. I truly hope things get better man

Hello , how are you? Are you single
I was married to a Gambian man and horrified to see an older topless European woman on the beach waiting for men to approach. It felt very exploitative to me. This is no better than men who seek out young women for prostitution.

Very good and informative documentary. Another side of this is the Gambian women, many are abandoned by their husbands for a European older woman. And it is a disaster for a woman with children in such a poor country. I've tried to find the documentary I have seen on this issue to link here, but I can't find it. I want to thank the journalist for the way he meets people.
Do y’all actually believe that those men abandon their women they get that money from those white women and share it with their families they just lying saying that they are not
This is not true, I am Gambian and I can tell you that they not abandon there Gambian wife’s, the men have several relationships at the same time, and most of the time the Gambian woman knows about the white women, they are glad that the chance of money exists, besides that can Muslim men have up to four wives.
Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear that. I saw a documentary about that many men leaving their wives for older European women and that's the only reference I have. I have been trying to find the documentary but it has been impossible so far.
Or I wonder how many men try to keep their original family as a "side" family after connecting with a European. Devastating, as you said, for the original family.
This kind of thing doesn't just happen in The Gambia it happens here also and it really doesn't matter how old you are I was in my thirties and my husband was 10 years older than me and he left me for a younger woman it happens all over it's the times we're living in
So the 85-year-old woman who is footing the money to build his dream home, will not live too many years to enjoy the house, and as he said, she will die in his arms, from old age. Then he can continue his life as he wants to because he is much younger.
Do you want him to die with her? Alternatively, she could take her money and give it to the one of those places for the old and live a depressed life but eitherway she would leave her wealth behind. Didn't you hear her say she is living a second life?
As long as she's happy alternatively many elderly die unhappy in nursing homes & donate their money to corporate charities.... its the same thing here she's making a difference in another person's life however she wants .
We love our grandparents when we are kids, they do not look too good, its possible all of these people differ....
She turned out to be 65, so she got some years to enjoy life there
Fair exchange....

This issue of old women coming from Europe to sexually "feast" on desperately poor locals (aka bumsters), is not a recent matter. Kudos to Seyi Rhodes for doing a decent and balanced reportage on this ongoing subject. By and large, The Gambia is a great tourist destination for people who are desirous of escaping from the cold wintry days of Europe and the rest of the world.
well it look to me like this desperately poor locals feast on the european women purse. MMHMM WUZ GUD MILEY?
you need to come and do a similar video in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe
Judge not and ye be not judged. There are all types of people in this world. Very kind young interviewer.
Just buying people one at a time
I mean what else did our ancestors slave for ?
Except to make them rich so they can buy them a personal Mandingo
Exactly. Humans come in all different species.
Astounding, but, you're right. These men do not need to be judged, they need to be helped. They need education, training...jobs that foster dignity and self-worth or is that to much to ask for Africans who are yes, being exploited for their equipment !
I love this reporter. So much compassion.
ON THE MALE SIDE little kids are being sold.

Hello gurl where you from, we need traveling to together in Africa gurl
The same is common with old Western men and young Thai women. Still, I have never heard that much understanding for the male tourists. It is literally the same and many of the male tourists are losing their life savings, too, while also having fun.
Because men are viewed as perpetrators.
Both gross and predators hope they get scammed and leached off
Congratulations for this very well done documentary. I enjoy it.
This happens not only in Africa but in the Caribbean Islands too.
