      @@zacharylemley9027 Well said. What struck me about this video is how the heck would those seven - or at least the last five that didn't call MORR - have gotten out if Matt and Paul had not happened along? Those were tough pulls and pretty technical, so most other rigs would have just buried themselves in the sand if they tried to help. I sure hope the lake fills up again.

    Wow...absolutely amazing! My Jeep died in my company's parking garage and I had to call a tow truck to take it to a shop 15 miles away....it cost me $300. I can't imagine how much a 4 hour drive to recover a stuck vehicle would cost!

    • @bobw53jrma
      @bobw53jrma Місяць тому +1

      Back around 1990 I know it was a base rate of $600 if you got stuck out on Race Point (the end of Cape Cod).. down in Rhode Island, if you got stuck on one of the sand trails it was a base of $400..
      .
      So a few years ago out here in New Mexico, I found myself in a bad situation, weekday, offseason, north end of the lake, 4 miles off the paved road. I was following a road others had traveled about 100 feet from a giant mud flat, about 30 feet higher.. And it just collapsed. I thought I was going over, full steering lock down hill and goosed it.
      Tried backing out of it to safe ground, which was only like 100 yards away, but everything was so dry, we had had no rain at all for 6 months, the gravels were like ball bearings. Every 3 feet you would go backwards, you would slide a foot down hill towards the mud flat. So my left front eventually dipped off into that mud, and sunk..
      .
      I was expecting big big money. About a 20 mile drive for them, plus 4 miles on very very mild trails. They showed up with a Jeep and a winch. 5 minutes. $250, plus tax. I was quite happy. Really nice guys.. Bartoo Sand and Gravel in Truth or Consequences, yes they run a gravel pit..
      .
      I did ask them if they were going to laugh at me for getting stuck after they drove away, and they said "Yeah, pretty much". Then they said they would follow me out, and I said I was Ok from here, and they really wanted to follow.. So we get to the end of the trail, and my passenger had to get out to open the gate, and we both drove through.. And I yelled out the window "That's why you wanted to follow me, so you didn't have to get out to open the gate"... "Yep"...
      .
      $250 was a very fair price, took them an hour to get there because they were pulling somebody out at the other lake when I called. Nice people, I was happy.
      .
      Some of these recoveries have to be thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars.

    I remember riding my ATV downhill on a fire road through deep packed snow in the high California mountains, it was fun until I hit the stream and discovered that my quad immediately dug in and sank in the deep snow when I needed power to climb out of the stream. It took me hours of winching it from tree to tree on the road bank to get out alive, I was all alone and could have easily died in the mountains that night. I learned to never ride downhill again in low traction conditions because you may never get back up out of it. Thank God for my Warn winch and some beers that got me through a terrible rainstorm and poor decision making that day.

    In 2020 I seen one of Matts videos at Lone Rock Beach Lake Powell. I took my wife and we camped their for a week straight. It was amazing boating around Lone Rock and sleeping on the beach. I will never forget it. It makes me so sad it was the last time the water was high enough to boat around Lone Rock. We caught so many fish and had the time of our lives. A few crazy storms. It was such an adventure. God bless!!
