As far as diverse landscapes go Australia is hard to beat. One of the few countries in the world with snow capped mountains, tropical jungles, deserts, coral reefs and fabulous beaches. The only problem is that it costs a bomb 😅

There are many countries in Central and South America that have both mountains and the sea. Too say Thailand is the ULTIMATE EXPAT RETIREMENT DREAM, is a little over the top. By the time you retire in 20 years Thailand could of changed so much it might not be what you even want.
I'm really impressed by South America, has a lot of things going for it. Only thing that's a massive letdown is the lack of security that TH offers presently.
You're way over egging this pudding, Jon. There's much to like about Thailand but I see you sweep your arm over a desolate stony beach & proclaim it to be paradise. You denigrate the beautiful countryside of your native land which you clearly haven't visited & so don't appreciate. The mountains in the North of Thailand are really beautiful but you can only see them from the road. They are covered in impenetrable jungle so there's no prospect of hiking them, unlike all the lovely mountains of our own native country. Thailand is far too hot to walk the countryside anyway. In my view it's a great place to sidestep the winter in Britain but when the leaves are out again after Easter I'm very happy to be back home to a much nicer & more varied country.
Agree with you on Ao Nang. I was excited to go to Krabi, and Ao Nang ruined everything; I found it was a complete tourist trap, nothing Thai about it and much inflated prices! I regretted my choice and never returned. Now, there are probably other parts of Krabi that are worth discovering, I missed them, I didn't explore enough and can blame myself. The only good part was a small restaurant that I found on the last night and where I had the best tom kha gai I ever ate. It was homemade by an older woman who was also giving cooking classes. I was the last customer that night, she was lovely and gave me the best food.
I'll be in Bangkok this weekend. I'm considering either Bangkok or Chiang Mai for my retirement but the weather during the Hot and wet season can be miserably bad.
I vote my Second Home of Chiang Mai as Numbah One in Thailand followed by Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, Lampang and even crazy Bangkok--can't beat the kingdom but if you DO get bored or you DO have to do a Visa Run, there is always Cambodia or Vietnam! 🙂
TL's visas seem a minefield where as Cambodia's are pretty straight forward, yes both countries are different but easy Visa's equals no hassles for Moi, i have no idea why TL makes it difficult, yer i know if i don't like the system don't visit but i'm trying to figure out the best course for me. i guess do more homework.
Hi Jon , You should go to Pranburi beach on the way to Hua hin, it's definitely worth a visit. There is a beautiful road along the beach in some parts with very little traffic, my favourite area to ride the bike. Khao Kalok beach ⛱️ south of Pranburi beach is almost on the same level like Railey beach in Krabi but very quiet without crowds. The South of Hua hin is an amazing place to discover by motorcycle. Good luck 🤞.
Jon as I’ve said to you in many of your vlogs. Unless you have a Thai wife you will never have roots or plan forever. As you are well aware laws change and revert every 5 mins. A foreigner can never own land If you want to end up in Thailand forever you must have a boat load of money and I mean a boatload of I love Thailand more than you and I too live in Chiang Mai Yes it’s paradise but you would be well informed of the pertinent facts but only for a holiday. No one can ever make roots unless you have a Thai wife, so you need to point this important fact out because 99.8 % of people don’t have your situation Holiday yes but don’t sugar coat it as though a tourist has these options
@@jondcanton as I’ve said an elite visa requires a lot of money that most people aren’t afforded after retirement. Buying a business will put you at huge risk of loss and all of these rules can change at a drop of a hat. There is absolutely no guarantee unless you have a Thai wife That’s why you ideas and projections apply only to your unique situation Better to angle it as a perfect holiday would be more apt and realistic eh ?
Thumbs up 👍 Jon…..Phuket ❤

Thailand is overrated. Now with new tax laws its far from ultimate.

They could open a business, or retire over 50, or buy an elite visa etc lots of ways to stay if not married
What is a boatload of money in your opinion?
