Good video Mick, it is amazing the poor maintenance people give to there lawnmowers, they expect them to run forever with no maintenance of any kind.
Morning Mick, watched this video and I think it's fixed my mower, only time will tell. Faffed with it yesterday and today there's fuel still in the tank.

I always cut a cotton bud in half and stick it in the drill with a little wd40 into the seat it polishes it up a treat Mick ,

Hi Mick. I've never thought of using a cotton bud and a drill to clean out the float needle housing. Nice tip 👍
Also if fuel is disappearing from the tank, smell the oil as it might be where the fuel has gone. Also I check the oil level, if it's high, there's probably fuel in the oil. 😁
I need to get a vacuum gauge 👍
Yeah I have seen that before mate... The oil levels suddenly go up
@@themowerman I se it often. First thing I do if fuel goes missing. Means an oil change on top of the repair.

How's she goin'? That was nice fix Mick!! I have had this problem with several carbs and getting the needle clean so it seats well is always a ht and miss exercise. I never thought of using valve grinding compound on it!! Thanks. Take 'er easy!!

Got a 2009 Craftsman in the other day. In all my years working on small engines, I've have never seen the throttle plate shaft wear through the carb housing. Pulled the float bowl and a welch plug fell out. Nice video mate!

Perhaps you can help me with a potential problem on my Honda GCV 160 TwinCut mower. Was mowing the lawn yesterday when I noticed the abnormal smell of petrol. Noticed the "chimney" and the top of the tank was wet. When filled, the fuel level was proper, ie. not overfilled. The fuel cap was tight and properly seated ie. not cross threaded. Inside of the cap appears to be normal, no blockages in the circular protruding vent "finger" and the cap is not cracked. Screws down normally when tightened with the "clicks". Wondering if there is a gasket on the inner lip inside the cap that may have deteriorated or simply fallen out. Never seen one there before. Thanks again for your excellent videos. Easy to follow and in comprehensible English!

Mick what stops the hinge pin on the float from falling out, is it the bowl itself?....... I use a strand of wire brush to clear jets etc 😀

@@themowerman I have no fuel filter except the screen at the bottom of the tank, I do have a screen on the funnel when fueling the tank but it wouldn't be fine enough to stop everything. That one was fairly manky 😫
Interested to know if they put ethanol in the petrol over there. They are crazy with that stuff here in the states.

Why not just replace the needle after cleaning the seat fails? The neoprene rubber tip on the needle may have gotten deformed.
Because the video is for someone who just wants to fix it.. like I said you can just replace the carb.. but I like to show how to fix it.. this only cost 3mins.. a new carb is normally £50..
Hi mick, i’m at wits end with this 97 dellorto carb, it’s hunting at full & half throttle been cleaned twice now still no change, tried e5 & e10, new seals where possible, governor spring renewed & moved up makes a slight difference
Runs without needing choke at all, half choke has no effect full stalls it, new fuel lines & filters for fuel & air, main jet holes cleaned
Any ideas?
Next step is a aftermarket carb
Ultrasonic cleaner?
@@themowerman unfortunately I haven’t got one, it’s either £15 for a carb or £50 for a ultrasonic cleaner 🤔

@@themowerman thought I’d update you, the thing runs lovely lovely.. haven’t touched the carb since we last spoke on here, the only thing I did do was let it run for about 2/3 minutes before using it at idle and the hunting had disappeared
Can anyone tell me if spraying wd40 over everything like that is bad because my neighbour gives me a earful when I do it ??

Hmmm might be the one way value on the cap has broken.. I would try and get a genuine replacement cap mate ..
