Thanks for recommending this video. It's took me many searches to get the right terminology. Then I still couldn't find it haha. Appreciate it.
I inherited the classic 35s from a friend who was taking it to the tip because he couldn't get it started. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I was like "NOOOOO".
I admit I'm a noob at this but it was similar to the lawnmower my grandad used, I had to have it. Now all I have to contend with is getting wrong off the missus for turning the garage into a full blown repair shop 😂
Gonna be my pet project for the next few months.

    Hi Mick.
Bear with me, Stroke Survivor here.
Just bought 2nd hand Allett Suffolk Punch Electric Cylinder Mower.
Stripped, cleaned, backlapped it and works great.
    My query:
1 of the screws that lowers the blade to the bed knife managed to turn with force to be able to backlap.
If the blade cut to the end of the season now, what would you recommend?

    • @themowerman

Sorry mate I don't understand.. try again mate

    • @amandapetermendez1725
      @amandapetermendez1725 3 місяці тому +1

@themowerman when it's time to do the paper cutting test, you have to turn the 2 screws/bolts to move the blades closer to the bed knife.
I managed to get the blades smack on and cut the paper all the way across.
1 of the screws/bolts managed to just about let me complete the paper cut test, so now the mower is ready to use.
I was asking, if the blades last to the end of the season, I want to fully remove the screw/bolt that won't tighten anymore and find out why it is so stiff/tight/seizing.
I used wd40 and that helped it move a few mm but I thought I would leave as is, just incase you said "Don't touch it now if it's usable, unscrew it fully at the end of the season".
      Does that make sense Mick.
Just want to know in advance whether it's just a case of being able to just remove that 1 adjusting screw/bolt, clean the thread and retighten, or if in your experience it's something else.

Excellent video. Had a nightmare with my 10 blade the other day only recently had it back from a regrind and the grass box hanger bolt came out and cylinder ate it! Not too much damage but ended up knocking out alignment. Took me a good couple of hours and a backlap to get it to cut again and still not 100%
What is the most common cause if its cutting at the sides but not middle? Yet any further adjustment lower causes the cylinder to catch bottom blade at the corner?
I also find it awkward to screw on bottom blade as you can determine angle ever ao slightly so i guess it depends on the profile cut and needing to match it to cylinder.
    Thanks

I have just found your channel Mick and what a treasure trove of information it is. Well done.
I am refurbishing a Balmoral 20SE that I picked up at a good price on eBay 3 or 4 years ago, but then got sidetracked into other projects.
I have stripped the cassette following your excellent 10 June video and have a couple of questions.
    1. The bearings are cup and cone rather than the sealed items in your video. Presumably these can be refurbished or replaced as necessary.
    2. The bearing carriers appear to have been adjusted to the full extent of their travel - they cannot be advanced any further to ensure that the proper setting of the cylinder against the bottom blade can be achieved. Is it likely that the cylinder has been ground to the limit of it’s usefulness (whatever that might be)? I measure the diameter of the swept circle of the cylinder blades to be about 132mm.
Any guidance you can offer will be most appreciated.

OK - I have just cleaned off all the corrosion. It is not a pretty sight. I have seen a specification online for a new blade which is 81.9mm wide. Mine is 75mm at one end and 76mm at the other - not even straight. It looks like it has been ground by hand. I guess it's a replacement bottom blade then. Are the non-genuine Atco replacements at around £0 quid OK?@@themowerman

As for the sound, you don't sound as good as usual, it's very tinny.
