I saw this concert in Indianapolis in the summer of 96. Hounds of winter was the first track in the setlist, I have always loved this chord progression. I was overwhelmed by the beauty and the intensity of his music from the first minute. He played two hours the best of the Police and his solo albums. Dominic Miller, Kenny Kirkland and Vinnie Colaiuta (and Sting on bass) were the best group I ever saw on the stage.
Since no one comments on this I feel the need to. This song makes me think of a man who lost his wife in some tragic accident, him being the man who loved his wife so much is conflicted. The "wolves" represent his own demons that will eventually take his life. Being so distraught and not being able to control his urges he eventually takes his own life. Tragic Story.
I was there at Kisstadion as an 18y old! Not remembering much though, but Alanis Morisette new album (Jagged Little Pill) was played before the gig to cheer up the waiting crowd. It was really a long time ago :)

Those trumpets sound like farts in the tempo
Actually Sting had bean soup for lunch before this concert. He just was able to control it to fit in with the song.
Horns screwed this up big time...guitar solo was awesome
Great live performance, but I wish the vocal mix was better and those horns.. what was Sting thinking??
